Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.118 +0.24% Normal range lower half of range
EUR/USD is sitting in a mixed spot right now — she closed slightly higher last session but is resting in the lower half of her daily range (meaning price is closer to where it was cheapest today than where it was most expensive), and with major USD news hitting at 5pm PST, there's no clear signal yet on which way she wants to move. We're watching to see how price reacts around the 1.1180 area — a clean hold and push above that level could open the door for buyers to step in, while a close below it would tell us the bears (sellers) are still in control. For now, no strong bias here — patience is your best tool until the news dust settles. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1180
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.338 +0.38% Normal range upper half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting in a no-clear-direction zone right now — yesterday's small gain and normal range movement don't give us a strong enough signal to lean confidently one way or the other 💛. The big wildcard today is the USD Congressional Elections at 5pm PST, which could shake the US dollar hard in either direction and move Cable with it, so we want to wait and see how that unfolds before forming a bias (a leaning toward one direction). Watch 1.3320 as your key level — if price closes below there, even this mild upward tilt would be off the table and we'd need to reassess completely.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3320
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.8 -0.02% Normal range mid-range
The dollar-yen closed almost exactly flat (barely moved from where it opened) with a normal-sized session and price sitting right in the middle of its recent range — that's a genuinely mixed picture with no clear tilt yet 💛. A major USD event (Congressional Elections) hits at 5pm PST, which means the market may wait and hold its breath before making any real move, so we'd want to see how price reacts after that news before leaning in either direction. Watch for a clean hold above 157.80 with momentum (price pushing higher with energy behind it) to hint at upside, or a slide and close below 156.80 to suggest the bears (sellers) are taking control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 158.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7027 -0.44% Quiet range upper half of range
The Aussie (AUDUSD — how many US dollars one Australian dollar buys) is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now, with no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. Price slipped slightly last session and movement has been quiet (smaller than the usual daily range), so we're watching to see whether buyers or sellers step up before committing to a lean. Keep an eye on the New Zealand jobs data today — because Australia and New Zealand are close trading partners, a big NZD surprise can ripple into the Aussie too, and that could be the catalyst that tips things one way or the other.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7060
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.399 +0% Quiet range near swing LOW
USDCAD is sitting quietly near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been touching lately), with no clear push in either direction just yet — so right now there's no strong lean to work with. 💛 The NZD news today doesn't directly move this pair, so we're really just watching to see if price can hold this area or starts to slip further. A clear daily close back above 1.4050 would be the sign that sellers (those pushing price down) have lost control and the picture is shifting.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4050
GBPJPY moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 211.1 +0.37% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen closed the last session up in the upper half of its range (meaning price settled closer to the day's high than its low), which gives us a moderate bullish bias — a lean toward more upside — while it holds above 209.80 💛. If we see price stay above that level, the path of least resistance (the direction that feels easier for price to travel) favors another push higher. A daily close below 209.80, though, would shift the picture and tell us this lean was wrong — so we'd step back and reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 209.80
Gold moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 3899 -3.29% Expanded range lower half of range
Gold had a rough session yesterday, dropping -3.29% and closing in the lower half of its daily range — meaning price finished closer to the day's low than its high, which tells us sellers were in control into the close 💛. The range expanded (Gold moved more than its typical daily distance), which shows that move had real force behind it, so the moderate bearish bias (leaning downward) stays in play while Gold holds below 3,950. A recovery close back above 3,950 would shift the picture and invite us to reassess from scratch.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 3,950
Silver moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 49.1 -5.93% Expanded range near swing LOW
Silver took a sharp hit last session — dropping nearly 6%, which is a big, fast move — and closed near the bottom of its daily range (the lowest prices of the day), which tells us sellers were firmly in control right into the close. 💛 The range expanded (Silver moved much more than its usual daily distance), so this wasn't a quiet drift lower — it was a real push, and that kind of momentum often needs time and a clear floor before buyers feel confident stepping back in. A recovery bias (leaning upward) would only start to make sense if Silver can reclaim and hold above the 32.50 area; while price stays below that level, the path of least resistance (the easier direction for price to keep moving) leans toward further softness.
S&P500 moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 7580 -1.82% Expanded range near swing LOW
The S&P 500 closed near the bottom of yesterday's range (the lowest prices of the day) after a sharp -1.82% drop, and that range expanded — meaning price moved further than its typical daily distance — which tells us sellers were in control and pushing hard. Our bias leans moderately bearish (tilted downward) while price stays below the 5,700 area; a clear reclaim and daily close back above that level would flip this outlook and suggest buyers are stepping back in. 💛 Until we see that reclaim, we'd watch for any bounces (short upward moves) into resistance as potential continuation of the downside pressure rather than signs of a full recovery.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 5,700
NASDAQ moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 28,380 -3.46% Normal range near swing LOW
NASDAQ took a sharp hit last session — dropping 3.46%, which is a meaningful single-day slide — and she closed near her swing low (the last little floor where buyers stepped in before), which tells us sellers are firmly in control right now 💛. Our bias stays cautiously bearish (leaning downward) while price holds below 19,200; if she reclaims and closes back above that level, this bearish lean would be off the table and we'd want to reassess fresh. For now, watch whether buyers show up to defend this swing low area or whether price simply continues to drift lower — that reaction will tell us a lot about the next move.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,820 -0.85% Normal range near swing HIGH
The DAX finished yesterday's session a little lower with no major news events on the calendar today, so there's no single clear story pulling price strongly in either direction just yet 💛. We're sitting near the top of the recent range (meaning price is close to where sellers have shown up before), which is worth keeping an eye on — but that alone isn't enough for a confident lean. Watch for how the DAX behaves around current levels; a clean push and hold above 26,020 would be needed to suggest buyers are really in control, while continued softness under that area keeps the picture cautious.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 26,020
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 78,250 +1.05% Quiet range near swing LOW
Bitcoin closed the session just above 78,250 and is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest point price has been trading around lately), so there's no clear directional lean yet — we're in watch-and-wait mode 💛. What we'd want to see before leaning bullish (upward) is a clean hold above 78,250 and a move back toward the middle of the recent range; if price instead closes below 76,800, that swing low (the last little floor the market bounced from) would be broken and the picture shifts more cautious. For now, let the market show its hand before committing to a side.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 76,800
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2273 +0.9% Quiet range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly in the lower half of her recent range (the area between the session's high and low prices), and we don't have a clear directional lean just yet 💛. Yesterday's small green close is a tiny nudge upward, but we'd want to see her push back above the mid-range and hold before calling this a real bullish tilt (upward momentum). Watch how she responds around current levels — a firm close back above 2,320 or so would be the first sign buyers are stepping in with confidence, while a slip under 2,220 would tell us sellers are in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,220

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
