Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.116 +0.23% Normal range mid-range
Euro-dollar is sitting in the middle of its recent range (the space between the session's high and low) with no strong push in either direction just yet — so right now, we don't have a clear lean to work with 💛. Today's main event risk is actually the Australian interest rate decision, which can ripple into dollar pairs and stir up some unexpected movement, so it's worth staying patient and watching how price reacts. We'd want to see a confident hold and close above 1.1160 to even begin leaning upward, while a slide and close below 1.1120 would tell us the sellers (the side pushing price down) are back in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1120
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.333 +0.16% Normal range upper half of range
Cable (our nickname for the British pound vs the US dollar) is sitting quietly in the upper half of yesterday's range after a tiny nudge higher last session — not enough on its own to call a clear direction yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether price can hold above 1.3300 and attract fresh buyers, or whether it slips back toward the middle of the range first. No major UK or US news today, though keep an eye on the AUD Cash Rate announcement at 5 pm PST — surprise moves in risk sentiment (how willing traders are to take on risk) can sometimes ripple through Cable too, so let price show its hand before committing to a side.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3280
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.8 -0.1% Quiet range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting quietly right now — the session was nearly flat and price isn't giving us a clear push in either direction yet, so we're in a wait-and-see mode rather than leaning strongly one way. 💛 The pair is holding in the upper half of its recent range (the zone between today's high and low), which is a mild positive sign, but we'd want to see a clean hold and push through nearby resistance (a ceiling price has bumped against before) before calling this a real upside setup. Keep an eye on 156.80 — a daily close below that level would tell us the mild positive tilt is gone and we'd need to reassess completely.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7058 +0.39% Normal range upper half of range
The Aussie (AUDUSD, the Australian dollar versus the US dollar) closed in the upper half of yesterday's range with a mild positive nudge, but today is completely dominated by the RBA — that's Australia's central bank — dropping their Rate Statement, Monetary Policy Statement, AND a live Press Conference all at 5:00pm PST 💛. That triple event means price could swing hard in either direction depending on what the RBA says about interest rates and the economic outlook, so there's no reliable lean (no clear directional tilt) to hold right now. We're watching: a strong hold and upbeat tone from the RBA could keep bias (our leaning) bullish (upward-tilting) while price holds above 0.7020, but a dovish surprise (softer, more cautious language) that breaks price below 0.7020 on a candle close would open the door to further downside pressure.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7020
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.399 -0.45% Quiet range near swing LOW
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) is giving us a mixed picture right now — no clear bias has formed yet, so we're in watch-and-wait mode rather than leaning one way. Price slipped a little last session and is sitting near the swing low (the most recent little floor where buyers stepped in before), but the move was quiet with no big follow-through, so we don't have enough confirmation to call a direction. A hold and bounce from this area could invite a push back toward 1.4035, but a clean close below current support (the price level where buyers have been showing up) would be the first clue that heavier selling pressure is building. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4035
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 210.3 +0.06% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen closed nearly flat — just +0.06% — which tells us the market hasn't committed to a clear direction yet 💛. Price is sitting in the upper half of yesterday's range (the distance between the day's high and low), so we're watching to see whether buyers can build on that or if price drifts back toward the middle. No high-impact news is scheduled today, so for now we wait for a stronger signal before leaning one way; a clean hold above 209.50 (yesterday's lower zone) would be the first thing needed to even begin thinking bullish (upward-leaning).
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 209.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4031 -0.5% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold slipped a little last session and is sitting near the low of its recent range (the bottom edge of where price has been bouncing around), so there's no clear direction just yet — we're watching to see who steps in next 💛. A clean hold and bounce from current levels could invite buyers back, while a decisive close below this swing low (the last little floor price respected) would be the signal that sellers are gaining control. For now, there's no strong lean either way — patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,080
Silver no clear bias
Close: 52.19 -2.37% Normal range near swing LOW
Silver had a rough session yesterday, dropping about 2.4% and closing near the low of its recent range (the bottom edge of where price has been bouncing around) — but the move was normal-sized, nothing extreme, and there are no big economic news events on the calendar today to shake things up further. Right now the picture is genuinely mixed: the recent close is weak, but sitting near a swing low (a little valley where price has bounced before) means buyers could step in. We're watching to see whether Silver holds this area and shows some buying interest before forming any lean — no clear bias yet 💛.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7720 -0.3% Quiet range lower half of range
The S&P 500 is giving us a bit of a mixed picture right now, so we're sitting in a no-clear-bias-yet zone — watching and waiting rather than leaning hard in either direction 💛. Yesterday's session closed slightly lower with price sitting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to the bottom of where it's been trading than the top), and movement was quiet — tighter than usual — so no strong signal has formed yet. A sustained push back above 5,820 would be the first thing we'd want to see before considering a bullish lean (leaning upward); until then, we simply stay patient and let price show its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 5,820
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 26,180 -1.38% Quiet range near swing LOW
NASDAQ had a softer session yesterday, slipping about 1.4%, and is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been bouncing around lately) — but with no major news events on the calendar today and the day's movement looking quieter than usual, there's no clear directional signal just yet 💛. We're in a watch-and-see moment: a bounce and hold above current levels could invite buyers back in, while a continued drift lower would be the first sign that sellers are gaining control. Keep an eye on how price reacts here before leaning either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 19,650
DAX moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 26,040 +1.31% Normal range upper half of range
DAX closed the last session up 1.31% and settled in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price finished closer to the session's high than its low) — that's a healthy sign for buyers 💛. Our bias (the direction we're leaning) stays moderately bullish while price holds above 25,750; a close beneath that level would tell us the sellers have stepped back in and we'd reassess. No high-impact news events are touching DAX today, so watch for price to continue digesting those gains — if she holds this ground, the next test of higher levels stays on the table.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,750
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 77,430 +0.31% Quiet range lower half of range
Bitcoin is giving us a genuinely mixed picture right now — yesterday's session closed almost flat (barely moved from where it opened), and price is sitting in the lower half of its recent range (the space between the recent high and low), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend this area, or whether price slips lower — a strong daily close back above 80,000 would be the first sign that bulls (buyers) are regaining control. Until then, we're in 'wait and watch' mode rather than leaning strongly one way or the other.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 75,000
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2253 +0.52% Quiet range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly right now — no big news today and price hasn't shown us a clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see if buyers can hold the area around 2,200 (think of that as a floor where buying interest has shown up before); a clean close above 2,300 would be the first real sign that upward momentum is building. Until we see that confirmation, it's perfectly okay to simply observe and wait — protecting your capital by not forcing a trade is always a smart move.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 2,200

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
