Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.113 -0.4% Quiet range lower half of range
Euro-dollar (the exchange rate between the euro and the US dollar) is giving us a mixed picture right now — yesterday's small dip and the price sitting in the lower half of its recent range hint at a slight softness, but there's no strong signal yet to lean clearly in either direction. 💛 We'd want to see price either push back above 1.1180 (which would suggest buyers are stepping back in) or break and close below recent lows before committing to a directional idea. For now, we're in 'watch and wait' mode — no clear bias has formed yet.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1180
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.331 -0.29% Quiet range upper half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is giving us a mixed picture right now — she dipped slightly last session and there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether she can hold and build above 1.3310, which would be the first sign that buyers are stepping back in; a slide and close below 1.3270 would be the signal that sellers are taking over. For now, no clear bias yet — we wait for the market to show her hand before leaning either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3350
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158 +0.29% Quiet range upper half of range
The dollar-yen (USD/JPY) is sitting in a no-clear-bias zone right now — yes, it closed slightly higher yesterday and is in the upper half of its recent range (meaning price is closer to the top of its recent back-and-forth), but the BOJ Press Conference today at 5pm PST could shake things up significantly, so we don't want to lean strongly in either direction just yet. 💛 What we'd want to see is price holding above yesterday's close and pushing through recent highs with momentum before calling this a real upside setup. Keep 156.80 on your radar — a daily close below that level would tell us the mild upward tilt we're sensing has been washed out and we'd need to reassess completely.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.703 +0.16% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The Aussie-Dollar is sitting quietly near the top of its recent range (the highest prices she's touched lately) after a tiny gain last session — not enough on its own to call a clear direction yet. 💛 We're watching to see if price can hold above 0.6980 and start making bigger moves upward before leaning bullish (favoring the upside); until then, this is more of a 'wait and see' picture. Today's Bank of Japan press conference (where Japan's central bank speaks publicly about their decisions) could stir up some movement across the board, so keep an eye on how the Aussie reacts around that time.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6980
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.405 +0.27% Quiet range near swing LOW
USDCAD is sitting right at the bottom of its recent range (the lowest price it's been touching lately), and with no major news events on the calendar today, there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're in a quiet, wait-and-see moment — the pair isn't moving much compared to its usual daily distance (that's what QUIET range means), so we'd want to see a strong close back above 1.4100 before leaning bullish (upward), or a firm break and hold below current lows before getting bearish (downward). For now, no clear bias — patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4100
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 210.2 +0% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen closed virtually flat last session with zero momentum in either direction, so right now we don't have a clear lean — it's a genuine 'wait and see' picture 💛. The big thing to watch today is the BOJ Press Conference (that's the Bank of Japan's governor speaking publicly about interest-rate decisions, which can move yen pairs dramatically) at 5:00pm PST — whatever he says could set the tone and give us a real direction to follow. Until we see how price reacts to that news and whether it can hold above 208.50, we're standing back and waiting for confirmation before committing to any bias.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 208.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4052 -0.56% Normal range lower half of range
Gold closed slightly lower last session and is sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price ended the day closer to the low end than the high), so there's a small tilt to watch, but nothing clear enough yet to call a real direction. 💛 We'd want to see Gold either hold and push back above the mid-range area with strength, or break below recent support (the floor where buyers have been stepping in) before leaning confidently in either direction. For now, treat this as a 'wait and watch' session — no clear bias has formed yet.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,280
Silver no clear bias
Close: 53.46 -1.54% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver had a tough session yesterday, sliding about 1.5% and closing near the bottom of its daily range (the lowest point of the day's price movement) — but with no high-impact news events on the calendar today and the session moving more quietly than usual, there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in here at these lower prices or whether sellers stay in control — a firm bounce and close back above recent highs would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are waking up, while continued pressure lower keeps the cautious mood alive. For now, treat this as a wait-and-see moment rather than a strong signal in either direction.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7744 +0.28% Quiet range mid-range
The S&P 500 closed just a touch higher last session with no major news events (no big scheduled announcements) on the calendar today, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. Price is sitting in the middle of its recent range (not near a clear high or low), and movement was quieter than usual — so we're in a wait-and-see moment rather than a clear setup. Watch for price to either build above recent highs or slip under nearby support (a price level where buyers have stepped in before) before leaning one way.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,400 -1.38% Quiet range near swing LOW
NASDAQ had a rough session yesterday, closing down and sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the low end of the prices it's been trading between), but the picture isn't clear enough yet to call a direction with confidence 💛. We'd want to see price either hold and push back above 19,650 — which could hint at buyers stepping in — or break below the current swing low (the little price floor it's been resting on) before forming a real lean. For now, we're watching and waiting rather than guessing.
DAX moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 25,700 +0.44% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The DAX closed yesterday with a gentle gain and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the highest prices it's been trading between lately), which keeps a moderately bullish bias (a lean to the upside) in play for now 💛. While price holds above 25,480, we can watch for any continued push toward fresh highs — but a daily close beneath that level would tell us the buyers (the people pushing price up) have lost control and opens the door for a pullback (a dip lower). There are no big news events on the calendar today to shake things up, so price action itself will be our best guide.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,480
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 81,270 +0.57% Normal range near swing LOW
Bitcoin is sitting near the bottom of yesterday's range (the lowest point price reached before bouncing), so we don't have a clear bias just yet — we're watching to see whether buyers step in and push price back above 83,000 before leaning in either direction 💛. A move and hold above that level could open the door for a push toward recent highs, while a slide and close below 79,500 would tell us sellers are firmly in control and we'd reassess entirely. For now, patience is your best friend — let price show its hand first.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 79,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2358 +0.42% Normal range near swing LOW
Ethereum is sitting near the low of its recent range (the bottom of the zone where price has been bouncing around), which could mean either a bounce is brewing or more selling pressure is waiting — right now the picture is genuinely mixed with no clear direction yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend this area with conviction, or whether price slips below and opens up a deeper move lower. A clear daily close back above 2,420 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are regaining control — until then, no strong lean in either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,420

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Bank of Japan Rate Decision or Statement — JPY pairs can move violently on BoJ surprises (the yen has had several huge unexpected moves in recent years). TFW guidance: be extra cautious on any JPY pairs around BoJ events — the moves can be very fast and spreads widen. Wait for clarity before trading. The BoJ is full of surprises lately — treat JPY pairs like a live wire on BoJ day 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
