Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.117 -0.39% Quiet range near swing LOW
Euro-Dollar is sitting right at the edge of its recent swing low (the last little price valley it bounced from) after a quiet, small-range session — so there's no clear tilt to lean on just yet. 💛 Today is stacked with high-impact news (big scheduled announcements that can jolt price hard) on both sides of this pair — the ECB interest-rate decision and press conference for the Euro, plus US GDP and Core PCE inflation data for the Dollar — all dropping at the same time, which means price could whip in either direction before finding its footing. We're watching to see which side wins after the dust settles: a strong hold and bounce above 1.1120 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in, while a confirmed close below that level opens the door for more downside pressure.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1200
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.335 -0.24% Quiet range upper half of range
Cable (the GBP/USD pair) is sitting quietly today — the session range was smaller than usual, which tells us price isn't committing to a direction yet, and with major news events dropping all at once at 5 PM PST (U.S. growth data, the Fed's favourite inflation reading, and European Central Bank and Bank of Japan policy decisions), we really want to wait and see how the dust settles before leaning either way 💛. No clear bias has formed yet — if price holds above 1.3350 after the news, that could open the door for bulls (buyers) to step back in, but a close below that level would be the sign that the sellers are taking control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3350
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.5 +0.45% Quiet range upper half of range
The dollar-yen is sitting in a really interesting spot today — there are so many major news events dropping at the exact same time (5:00pm PST), including the Bank of Japan's interest rate decision and the US GDP and inflation reports, that the pair could snap hard in either direction without much warning. With this much event risk (high-impact news that can move price dramatically), we treat this as a no-clear-bias-yet moment — meaning we're watching rather than leaning, because the news itself will decide direction. Keep 156.80 on your radar as the level to watch: if price closes below there, the mild strength we saw yesterday fades, and that opens the door for a deeper pullback. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7019 -0.15% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The Aussie (AUDUSD) is sitting in a quiet, low-energy session with no strong pull in either direction just yet 💛. With big USD data dropping today — the Advance GDP reading (a first look at how fast the US economy grew) — the pair could get a sharp jolt, so we'd rather wait and see which way price reacts before committing to a lean. Watch 0.7060 as the upside line in the sand; a clear push and close above there would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are taking control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7060
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.401 +0% Quiet range lower half of range
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed virtually flat last session with almost no movement — a quiet, undecided picture right now. 💛 The pair is sitting in the lower half of its recent range, and with USD Advance GDP (a big report measuring how fast the US economy grew last quarter) dropping at 5:00pm PST today, that single number could push price sharply in either direction — so there's no clear lean to lean into just yet. We'd want to see price hold and push back above recent highs to consider a bullish bias (leaning upward), or a clean close below 1.3950 to open the door to further downside — until then, patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3950
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 210.2 +0.19% Quiet range mid-range
The pound-yen is sitting right in the middle of its recent range (the space between its recent high and low), with barely any movement last session — so there's no clear directional tilt (lean) to work with right now 💛. On top of that, we have the Bank of Japan's rate decision and outlook report dropping today, which means price could whip sharply in either direction depending on what the BOJ signals about Japanese interest rates — making it extra important to wait for the dust to settle before forming any bias (opinion on direction). Watch how price reacts around 210.00; if the pound-yen loses that level on a candle close, it opens the door to more downside pressure, but until we see a clear break or a strong reaction to the news, we're in 'wait and watch' mode.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.00
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4075 +0.9% Normal range lower half of range
Gold had a positive close last session, but with USD Core PCE (a key US inflation reading that can move the dollar and Gold sharply) dropping today, we don't have a clear directional lean just yet 💛. We're watching to see how price reacts around current levels — if Gold holds firm and buyers step back in after the data, that would be an early sign of strength worth paying attention to. For now, no clear bias has formed, so patience is your best tool until the dust settles.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,300
Silver no clear bias
Close: 54.29 +0.34% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — she closed just slightly higher last session (+0.34%), but she's resting near the swing low (the last little valley price bounced from), which means we don't have a clear direction to commit to yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend this area, or whether price slips below 53.50 — a clean close under that level would suggest the sellers are in control. No red folder events (high-impact news releases) today, so the picture stays 'wait and see' until the market shows its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 53.50
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7723 +0.6% Normal range mid-range
The S&P 500 closed yesterday with a gentle positive nudge, but honestly the picture is pretty mixed right now — price is sitting in the middle of its recent range (not pushing toward the top or bottom, just hovering), so there's no clear signal to lean on just yet. 💛 We'd want to see price hold above recent support and push toward the top of the range before feeling confident about an upward tilt, or a decisive drop and close below 5,550 before thinking lower. For now, watching patiently for the market to show its hand is the most honest approach.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,810 +0.55% Quiet range lower half of range
NASDAQ closed slightly higher last session, but she's sitting in the lower half of her recent range (meaning price is closer to the bottom of where she's been moving lately) and trading quietly — so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. The big event to watch is the USD Core PCE Price Index (a key inflation report the market pays close attention to) dropping at 5:00pm PST, which could move things meaningfully in either direction. We'll want to see how price reacts around that news before leaning one way — a clean hold above 29,600 keeps the door open for steadiness, while a close below that level would be the sign the bears (sellers) are taking charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 29,600
DAX moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 25,590 +0.71% Normal range near swing HIGH
DAX closed up +0.71% yesterday and is sitting near the top of its recent swing (the highest point price recently reached before pulling back), which tells us buyers are still in control for now 💛. While price holds above 25,390, we can lean bullish (tilting upward) and watch for another push toward fresh highs — but if we get a daily close below that level, the bullish case needs a rethink and we'd step back to neutral. No big news events are scheduled today, so any move is likely to be driven purely by where buyers and sellers show up in the market.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,390
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 80,810 +1% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin closed the last session with a modest gain, but with price sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the session's lows than its highs), there's no clear directional story just yet 💛. We'd want to see Bitcoin hold above the 80,810 area and push convincingly higher before leaning bullish (tilting toward expecting more upside) — until then, we're simply watching and waiting for confirmation. A close below 78,500 would suggest the recent bounce has faded and we'd step back from any upside ideas entirely.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 78,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2348 +1.18% Normal range lower half of range
Ethereum closed yesterday with a small gain, but with price sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the session low than the high), there's no clear direction to lean into just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can step in and push price back above the mid-range area — if that happens with some energy, a mild upward lean could start to form. For now, treat this as a wait-and-see moment; a close below 2,300 would tell us sellers are in control and the picture shifts more cautious.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,300

🎯 TFW Recommendation
GDP release — shows how healthy the economy is growing (or shrinking). A surprise beat or miss can move the currency. TFW tip: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 10–15 minutes around the release. GDP is a slow-burn indicator — it sets the tone more than it creates instant spikes. GDP is like a quarterly report card — markets care, but the reaction is usually measured 💛

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Inflation data (CPI, PPI, PCE) — markets care deeply because high or low inflation changes rate expectations. TFW tip: step back 15 minutes around the release on relevant currency pairs. The first candle tells you a lot — wait for it to close before acting. Inflation news = the market recalculating what rates might do next. Give it a moment 💛

ECB Rate Decision and/or Press Conference — a big mover for the euro. EUR pairs can gap and spike dramatically, especially if the decision or forward guidance surprises. TFW guidance: step aside from EUR pairs 30 minutes before the announcement and wait for the press conference candle to close before re-engaging. The ECB press conference is where EUR pairs find their weekly direction — let Christine Lagarde finish talking before you trade 💛

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Bank of Japan Rate Decision or Statement — JPY pairs can move violently on BoJ surprises (the yen has had several huge unexpected moves in recent years). TFW guidance: be extra cautious on any JPY pairs around BoJ events — the moves can be very fast and spreads widen. Wait for clarity before trading. The BoJ is full of surprises lately — treat JPY pairs like a live wire on BoJ day 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
