Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.123 +0.07% Normal range lower half of range
Euro-dollar is sitting in a bit of a 'wait and see' spot right now — yesterday's session closed almost flat (barely any movement at all), and price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to yesterday's low than its high), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. With no high-impact news events (the kind that can move price sharply) scheduled today, we'd want to see price reclaim and hold above 1.1280 before any upward lean starts to look interesting, or a clear rejection lower to give bears (sellers) a reason to step in. For now, we're watching rather than leaning — patience here is just as valid a trading decision as picking a side.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1180
GBPUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.34 +0.17% Normal range near swing HIGH
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) closed the last session near the top of its range (meaning price finished close to the highest point of the day), which is an encouraging sign for buyers 💛. While price holds above 1.3350, the bias stays gently bullish (leaning upward), and we'd be watching for any dips toward that level as a potential area of interest. A daily close below 1.3350 would shift the picture and take that upward lean off the table entirely.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3350
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.1 -0.09% Expanded range near swing LOW
The dollar-yen is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — price closed near the low of the day (the bottom of yesterday's price movement) after a quiet, slightly negative session, so there's no clear push in either direction yet 💛. We'd want to see price either hold here and reclaim higher ground, or break decisively lower, before leaning one way — right now it's a 'wait and watch' moment rather than a clear setup. Keep an eye on 159.20 as the level that would tell us the recent softness was just noise, while a continued drift lower keeps the cautious tone alive.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 159.20
AUDUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 0.7029 +0.32% Normal range near swing HIGH
The Aussie-dollar closed near the top of yesterday's range (the distance between the highest and lowest price of the day), which tells us buyers were in control into the close — a mild bullish bias (leaning upward) while price holds above 0.6980 💛. No high-impact news events today means the pair could breathe freely, so if she continues to push higher from this swing high area (the recent peak price has been dancing around), watch for follow-through toward the next resistance (a ceiling where sellers tend to show up) above. A daily close back below 0.6980 would be the signal that this lean is wrong and we'd step back to neutral and reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6980
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.404 -0.17% Quiet range near swing LOW
USDCAD is sitting right near its swing low (the most recent little floor price has bounced from), and there's no clear bias forming just yet — we're watching to see whether buyers step in to defend this area or whether it quietly slips lower. Yesterday's session was quiet with only a tiny dip of -0.17%, so the market hasn't shown its hand yet 💛. No high-impact news is scheduled today, which means we're in a wait-and-see mode — a clean hold above 1.4080 would be the first sign bulls might be waking up, while a decisive close below that level opens the door for more softness.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4080
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 211.8 +0.07% Expanded range mid-range
The pound-yen (GBPJPY) closed just barely higher last session with an expanded range (meaning price moved more than its typical daily distance), but sitting mid-range with no clear folder events today, we don't have a strong directional signal yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether price can hold above 210.50 — a clean close below that level would take even this mild upward tilt off the table. For now, this is a 'wait and see' moment rather than a clear lean in either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.50
Gold moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 4060 -2.16% Expanded range near swing LOW
Gold had a rough session yesterday, closing down over 2% with an expanded range (she moved more than her typical daily distance), which tells us sellers were in control with real conviction. Our bias leans bearish (leaning downward) while price stays below the 3,280 area — a recovery and close back above that level would flip the picture and invite buyers back in 💛. Watch how Gold behaves near this swing low (the last little valley price has been bouncing from) — if she can't hold here and closes beneath current support, the next lower levels come into view.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,280
Silver moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 54.76 -4.63% Expanded range near swing LOW
Silver took a sharp hit last session — dropping over 4.6%, which is a big, fast move — and closed near the bottom of its daily range (meaning price ended the day where sellers were most in control), so our bias (our lean on direction) tilts cautiously bearish (favouring more downside) for now. 💛 The range expanded (Silver moved farther than its typical daily distance), which tells us there was real force behind that drop, not just a quiet drift lower — that kind of momentum often lingers. Bias stays bearish while Silver holds below 32.50; a recovery and daily close back above that level would flip the picture and we'd need to reassess completely.
S&P500 moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 7663 -1.21% Normal range near swing LOW
The S&P 500 closed near its session low (the bottom of the day's price action) with a meaningful -1.21% drop, which hints at sellers staying in control for now — our cautious, leaning-lower bias holds while price stays beneath the 5,800 area. 💛 If we do see a recovery push back above 5,800 and price closes there, that would flip the picture and we'd want to reassess. Until then, we're watching for signs of stabilisation (buyers stepping in and price stopping its slide) before considering any upside lean.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 5,800
NASDAQ moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 26,010 -2.6% Normal range near swing LOW
NASDAQ closed near the bottom of yesterday's range (meaning price finished close to its lowest point of the day) after dropping 2.6% — that kind of heavy selling pressure gives us a moderate bearish lean (tilting downward) for now. 💛 While price stays below the 19,300 area, we'd watch for continued softness, but a daily close back above that level would tell us this lean is wrong and we'd step back to neutral. No major news events are lined up today, so watch how price behaves around this swing low (the recent little valley where buyers last tried to step in) — if it can't hold, further weakness becomes the more likely scenario.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,370 -1.07% Normal range mid-range
DAX closed the last session lower with a -1.07% drop, but the move was normal-sized (nothing unusually dramatic) and price is sitting in the middle of its recent range — so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether sellers can follow through below yesterday's close, or whether buyers step back in and reclaim the 25,520 area (the level where our mild downward tilt would stop making sense). No big news events are scheduled today, so sit tight and wait for price to show its hand before leaning either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,520
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 80,790 -0.35% Normal range near swing LOW
Bitcoin is sitting right near the bottom of its recent range (the lower edge of the zone price has been bouncing between), and we don't have a clear lean just yet — we're watching to see whether buyers step in here or price keeps sliding 💛. For a bullish lean (upward tilt) to form, we'd want to see a strong close back above the 83,500 area; until then, the picture is mixed enough that we're in 'wait and confirm' mode. No major news events today, so price action (what the candles themselves tell us) will be our guide.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 83,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2356 -1.18% Normal range near swing LOW
Ethereum (ETH/USD) is sitting near the swing low (the recent low point where price last bounced) after a quiet, slightly negative session — so right now there's no clear push in either direction yet. 💛 We want to see how price reacts here before forming a real view: a strong bounce and hold above 2,420 could bring buyers back in, while a clean break and close below the current swing low would be the signal that bears (sellers) are really in control. For now, we're simply watching and waiting for the market to show her hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,420

CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
