Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.123 +0.07% Normal range lower half of range
Euro-dollar is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's session barely moved (+0.07%), and price is resting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the day's lows than its highs), so there's no clear tilt we can act on just yet. 💛 We'd want to see price push back above the upper half of the recent range and hold there before leaning toward any upside idea, while a clean close below 1.1180 would tell us the bears (sellers) are taking charge. No high-impact news events are scheduled today, so watch for a quiet session and let price show its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1180
GBPUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.34 +0.17% Normal range near swing HIGH
Cable (that's our nickname for the pound-dollar pair) closed the last session near the top of its range — meaning price finished close to the highest point it reached — which suggests buyers are still in control for now 💛. Our bias leans gently bullish (tilting upward) while price holds above 1.3340; a decisive close beneath that level would cancel this lean and open the door for a pullback lower. No high-impact news events are scheduled today, so watch for slow, steady movement rather than any big surprise swings.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3340
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.1 -0.09% Expanded range lower half of range
The dollar-yen closed nearly flat yesterday with just a -0.09% nudge lower, and price settled into the lower half of its daily range — so right now we don't have a clear bias (a strong directional lean) in either direction, and we're watching for confirmation before committing. 💛 What we'd want to see for a bearish lean (downward tilt) to form is a continued close beneath yesterday's low and a clean break of nearby support (a price floor where buyers have stepped in before); a push and close back above 159.20 would tell us the sellers aren't in control and flip our thinking. No major news events are scheduled today for this pair, so price action itself will be our guide — sit on your hands until the market shows its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 159.20
AUDUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 0.7029 +0.32% Normal range near swing HIGH
The Aussie (AUDUSD — how many US dollars one Australian dollar buys) closed the last session near the top of its range (the high and low of that day's price movement), which tells us buyers were in control right up to the close 💛. While price holds above 0.6980, the bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward), meaning we'd watch for the pair to continue pushing higher from current levels. A daily close back below 0.6980 would flip that picture and open the door for a deeper pullback (a drop back toward lower prices), so that's the level we keep an eye on.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6980
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.404 -0.17% Quiet range near swing LOW
USDCAD is sitting quietly near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been trading at lately), but the picture isn't clear enough yet to lean firmly in either direction 💛. Yesterday's tiny dip of -0.17% and no big news events today mean we're in a wait-and-see moment — a bounce back above 1.4080 would be the first sign that sellers are losing control, while a firm break and close below current lows would be needed to confirm any real downward lean. For now, we're watching for confirmation before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4080
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 211.8 +0.07% Expanded range mid-range
The pound-yen closed virtually flat with just a tiny +0.07% move, so there's no clear edge pointing us in a firm direction just yet 💛 Price is sitting mid-range (right in the middle of yesterday's high-to-low window), which means neither the buyers nor the sellers have taken control — we're watching for a decisive push above recent highs or a drop below 210.50 before a lean forms. For now, treat this as a 'wait and see' moment rather than a trading signal.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.50
Gold moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 4060 -2.16% Expanded range near swing LOW
Gold took a sharp step back last session — dropping over 2% with an expanded range (meaning she moved much more than her usual daily distance), closing near the bottom of that move, which tells us sellers were firmly in control into the close 💛. Our bias leans cautious (leaning toward more downside) while price stays below the 3,320 area; a clean reclaim and hold above that level would be the first sign the selling pressure is easing. Until then, we're watching for any bounces into resistance (overhead price ceilings where sellers may step back in) as potential areas where momentum could stall rather than recover.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 3,320
Silver moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 54.76 -4.63% Expanded range near swing LOW
Silver took a hard hit last session, dropping nearly 5% in a single day — that's a big, expanded range (she moved much more than her usual daily distance), and she closed near the very bottom of that move, which tells us sellers were firmly in control right to the end. While price stays below the 56.00 area, the bias leans bearish (tilting downward), with the next question being whether buyers step in to defend current levels or pressure continues. If Silver reclaims and closes back above 56.00, that lean flips and we'd want to reassess fresh. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 56.00
S&P500 moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 7663 -1.21% Normal range near swing LOW
The S&P 500 closed yesterday down 1.21% and is sitting near the swing low (the lowest point of its recent back-and-forth range), which tells us sellers have been in control and price hasn't found a reason to bounce just yet 💛. Our moderate bearish bias (leaning downward) stays alive while price holds below 5,820 — that's the level where the bears would lose their grip and we'd need to rethink everything. If you're watching this index, keep an eye on whether price can hold or break that swing low — a clean bounce back above 5,820 would be the first sign the selling pressure (downward push from sellers) is easing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 5,820
NASDAQ moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 28,960 -2.9% Normal range near swing LOW
NASDAQ had a tough session yesterday, dropping nearly 3% (meaning it fell sharply and closed near the lowest point of the day's move), which gives us a moderate bearish lean (tilting downward) heading into today. The bias stays cautious while price holds below the 19,400 area — a recovery and close back above that level would tell us the sellers have lost control and we'd want to reassess. No big news events are scheduled today, so watch how price reacts at this swing low (the last little valley where buyers stepped in before) — if it cracks and holds below, that opens the door for further softness 💛.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,370 -1.07% Normal range mid-range
DAX had a rough session yesterday, sliding just over 1% — but the move was normal-sized (nothing extreme by her recent standards) and she settled mid-range, so there's no clear tilt yet either way 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step back in or sellers keep nudging price lower before calling a direction. A push back above 25,520 (yesterday's upper area, where the bears would be proven wrong) would be the first sign the dip might be getting bought; until then, we simply wait for the market to show her hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,520
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 81,070 -0.29% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (the area between the day's high and low price) after a quiet, slightly negative session — so right now there's no clear push in either direction yet, and we want to wait for the market to show its hand. 💛 If buyers step in and push price back above the mid-range area with confidence, that's the first sign a bullish lean (upward tilt) could start to form; on the flip side, continued pressure and a daily close beneath current lows would be needed before leaning bearish. For now, we're watching rather than assuming — no strong bias until price gives us a clearer clue.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 83,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2384 -0.09% Quiet range lower half of range
Ethereum (ETH/USD) is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (the space price travelled up and down through) after a nearly flat session, so right now we don't have a clear lean in either direction — it's a watch-and-wait moment, sweet friend 💛. For a bullish lean (a reason to think price wants to move higher) to start forming, we'd want to see price reclaim and hold above the 2,420 area; until that happens, the slightly soft positioning keeps a mild cautious tilt on the table. No major news events are scheduled today, so keep your position sizes sensible (meaning: don't bet big when the market isn't giving a clear signal) and let price show its hand first.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,420

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
