Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.123 +0.11% Quiet range lower half of range
EUR/USD is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see zone right now — yesterday's session barely moved (just a +0.11% nudge, which is tiny), price is in the quieter, lower part of its recent range (meaning it's closer to the bottom of where it's been trading lately), and today's range was already tighter than usual compared to its average daily movement. There are no high-impact events directly on the euro or dollar today, though a busy news calendar nearby keeps things a little unpredictable. We'd want to see price reclaim and hold above 1.1260 before leaning bullish (upward), or a clean break and close below 1.1200 before considering any bearish (downward) lean — for now, patience is your best tool 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1200
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.334 +0.47% Quiet range upper half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) closed the last session in the upper half of its range (meaning price finished closer to the session's high than its low), which is a mild nod to buyers — but with UK CPI (the official measure of how fast prices are rising) dropping at 5:00pm PST today, we genuinely don't have a clear edge yet 💛. Big data releases like CPI can flip direction fast, so right now we're in a 'wait and see' zone rather than leaning one way or the other. Watch how price reacts around 1.3300 — a clean close below that level would be the signal that any remaining upward energy has faded and the picture has shifted.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3300
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.8 -0.21% Normal range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is giving us a genuinely mixed picture right now 💛 — price closed basically flat (almost no change from the day before), the session's movement was a normal, unremarkable size, and while we're sitting in the upper half of the day's range (meaning price drifted toward the higher end before closing), there's no clean directional story forming yet. No major U.S. or Japanese news is hitting today, but risk events in other currencies can still shake overall market mood and ripple into dollar-yen, so we want to stay patient. We'd need to see a clear push and hold above 158.50 before leaning bullish (upward-tilted), or a decisive drop and close below current support to consider a bearish (downward) lean — for now, we're watching, not assuming.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 158.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6972 +0.78% Quiet range lower half of range
Aussie-Dollar is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (the space between the day's high and low prices) after a modest gain last session, and with NZD CPI (a big inflation report for New Zealand, which moves pairs close to Australia) dropping today, there's real uncertainty pulling in both directions right now. We don't have a clear tilt just yet — what we'd want to see is a clean hold and push back above 0.6972 to even consider a bullish lean (meaning price favouring the upside), while a firm close beneath that same level could open the door for sellers to step in. Until the dust settles around today's high-impact news 💛, patience is your best trade here.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6972
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.412 -0.52% Normal range lower half of range
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) is giving us a mixed picture right now — no clear directional lean has formed yet 💛. Price closed lower last session and is sitting in the lower half of its daily range, but the move was within normal size (not unusually large or impactful), so we need more information before leaning one way or the other. Watch for a push back above 1.4180 to start building a case for buyers, or continued pressure beneath current price to confirm the sellers are in control — and keep in mind that today's major news events (GBP and NZD CPI releases) could stir up broader market movement that spills into this pair.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4180
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 210.4 +0.27% Quiet range upper half of range
The pound-yen is sitting quietly in the upper half of its recent range (the space between the highest and lowest prices over the last stretch), but there's no clear push in either direction just yet — we'd want to see price hold above 209.20 and pick up some momentum before calling a real lean. No big news events are scheduled today, so the pair may just drift; watch for a decisive move (a candle that closes with clear purpose, not just a small wiggle) to give us a direction to work with. For now, we're in 'wait and see' mode 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 209.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4160 -0.5% Normal range lower half of range
Gold doesn't have a clear directional lean just yet — yesterday's small pullback and closing in the lower half of its range (meaning price settled closer to the day's lows than its highs) are mild hints of softness, but nothing decisive enough to call a direction with confidence 💛. We're also watching for event risk today (scheduled news releases that can shake price) from GBP and NZD data, which can ripple into Gold as traders shift their appetite for safe-haven assets. For a bearish lean (a reason to lean downward) to form, we'd want to see price hold below recent structure and fail to reclaim higher ground — while a push back above 3,330 would tell us sellers aren't in control after all.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,330
Silver no clear bias
Close: 56.97 -0.04% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver is sitting quietly right now — the last session barely moved (just a -0.04% change, meaning price hardly shifted), and it's resting in the lower half of its recent trading range (the space between today's high and low), giving us no clear push in either direction yet. 💛 With no strong momentum to lean on and big news events today that could shake things loose, we're in a wait-and-see moment — watching to see whether buyers step in here or price slips further before committing to any directional idea. A bias (a leaning toward one direction) starts to form only if Silver can reclaim and hold above recent highs, while a close beneath 33.20 would open the door to a deeper pullback (a further drop lower).
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7691 +0.41% Quiet range mid-range
The S&P 500 closed slightly higher last session and is sitting quietly in the middle of its recent range — no strong push in either direction just yet, so we don't have a clear lean to work with right now 💛. We're watching to see whether price can hold above recent structure (the price levels where buyers have stepped in before) and build momentum, or whether it fades back — that confirmation would tell us much more. Today's event risk is light for U.S. equities specifically, so price action itself will be our guide.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,530 +1.17% Normal range lower half of range
NASDAQ closed last session with a solid green candle (price finished higher than it opened), but with price sitting in the lower half of the day's range (meaning it faded off the highs before the close), there's no clear directional lean just yet — we're in a 'wait and see' moment 💛. To lean bullish (upward-leaning), we'd want to see price push back above the mid-range area and hold; a clean close below 29,200 would flip that picture and open the door for further softness (lower prices). Worth noting that today's high-impact news events (GBP and NZD CPI reports — inflation data for the British pound and New Zealand dollar) could add some broader market noise (sudden movement), so patience before committing to a direction is your friend right now.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 29,200
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,320 -1.18% Normal range mid-range
DAX closed yesterday with a mild drop of around 1.2%, but the move was normal-sized (not unusually large) and price is sitting in the middle of its recent range — so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price either reclaim 25,520 (which would suggest buyers are stepping back in) or break lower with momentum before committing to a lean. For now, this is a watch-and-wait picture — no trade idea forms until the market tips its hand a little more.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,520
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 81,850 -0.2% Quiet range mid-range
Bitcoin is sitting pretty much in the middle of its recent range (the zone between recent highs and lows) with barely any movement last session — that -0.20% close is almost flat, and price isn't leaning clearly toward buyers or sellers right now 💛. We'd want to see Bitcoin hold above 79,500 (the level where this neutral picture starts to look more worrying for bulls) or push up and close above 84,200 (the upper edge of the range) before we'd feel confident calling a direction. For now, this is a 'wait and watch' setup — no clear bias yet, and that's perfectly okay.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 79,500 or above 84,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2405 -0.16% Quiet range lower half of range
Ethereum (ETH/USD) is giving us a genuinely mixed picture right now — yesterday's session was nearly flat (almost no change in price), and price is sitting in the lower half of its recent range (the zone between the recent high and low), so there's no clear signal pulling us in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see ETH either hold and push back above 2,460 before leaning bullish (upward-tilting), or break and close below 2,370 to start considering a bearish (downward-tilting) read. For now, we're in watch-and-wait mode — no clear bias has formed, and patience here is a real edge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,460

🎯 TFW Recommendation
CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
