Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.12 -0.08% Normal range lower half of range
EURUSD is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — she closed just slightly lower last session with no strong push in either direction, so we don't have a clear lean yet 💛. The news events today are all Canadian data, which touches the dollar indirectly, so we'll want to watch how the US dollar reacts around 5pm PST before committing to a direction. A move and close back above 1.1265 (the upper area of yesterday's range) would be the first sign bulls are stepping back in — until then, we're simply watching and waiting for confirmation.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1265
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.323 -0.2% Normal range mid-range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting in the middle of yesterday's range with no strong push in either direction yet — so right now there's no clear bias (no obvious lean toward up or down) for us to act on. 💛 The red folder events (high-impact news releases that can shake the market) today are all Canadian data, which touches CAD pairs more directly, but big risk-off moves (when traders get nervous and sell riskier currencies) can still ripple through Cable. We'd want to see a clean break and hold above 1.3280 before leaning bullish (upward), or a decisive push lower with follow-through before considering a bearish (downward) lean — for now, patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3280
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158 -0.23% Normal range upper half of range
USD/JPY is sitting in no-clear-bias territory right now — while price closed in the upper half of its daily range (meaning it held relatively firm into the close), the tiny -0.23% dip and normal movement keep things mixed with no strong signal yet. 💛 The red-folder events today (high-impact news releases) are all Canadian data, which don't directly drive this pair, so watch price action around the 157.00 area — a clean hold above there would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are still in control, while a close below that level opens the door for a deeper pullback.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 157.00
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6978 -0.1% Expanded range near swing LOW
The Aussie-dollar is sitting near a mixed crossroads right now — yesterday's session closed slightly lower and price is resting near the swing low (the most recent little valley where buyers stepped in before), so there's no strong, clear signal pointing either way just yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether buyers show up and hold this area, or whether price slips further — a daily close back above 0.7020 would be the first sign a recovery lean could form, while continued weakness below current levels keeps the softer tone alive. Today's Canadian inflation data (reports showing how fast prices are rising in Canada) isn't a direct Aussie driver, but broader risk sentiment (the general mood of traders toward riskier assets like the Aussie) can shift, so stay patient and wait for confirmation before leaning either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7020
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.421 -0.03% Normal range upper half of range
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — yesterday's session barely moved (-0.03%), and with three Canadian inflation (price-level) reports dropping today at 5pm PST, we really don't have a clear direction to lean into yet. 💛 Think of today as a 'wait and see' day — if those CPI numbers (which measure how fast prices in Canada are rising) come in hotter than expected, the Canadian dollar could strengthen and push this pair lower; cooler numbers could do the opposite. Our bias (our leaning direction) only starts to form once price and the data give us something to work with — watch 1.4180 as the first clue level, because a clean close below there would be the earliest sign of a shift.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4180
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 209 -0.43% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen is giving us a mixed picture right now, loves — yesterday's small dip and no major news events today mean there's no clear pull in either direction just yet. 💛 We'd want to see the pair either hold and push back above 210.50 (the level where our cautious lean would be wrong) to start thinking about upside, or break down convincingly from here before leaning bearish. For now, we're watching and waiting for the market to show its hand rather than guessing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.50
Gold moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 4170 +1.51% Normal range lower half of range
Gold put in a solid session yesterday, closing up over 1.5% — that kind of momentum (strong directional energy) keeps our bias leaning bullish (tilted upward) while price holds above the 3,280 area. The close sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range is something to watch — if buyers are genuinely in control, we'd love to see price reclaim the upper portion of that range as a sign of strength 💛. Today's Canadian inflation data isn't a direct Gold driver, but any surprise that shakes the US dollar could ripple into Gold's price action, so keep an eye on 5pm PST.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,280
Silver no clear bias
Close: 56.84 +2.32% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver closed the last session near its swing low (the most recent little valley where price found support and bounced) after a solid +2.32% gain, so the picture is mixed — a strong close but sitting at a vulnerable spot on the chart. Price action was quiet relative to Silver's typical daily range (ATR, or average true range — how far she usually moves in a day), so we haven't seen a clear push in either direction yet. Watch for Silver to hold above current lows and show a decisive close higher before leaning into a directional bias; a clean break and close below 32.00 would shift the outlook bearish (downward-leaning) instead. 💛
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7744 +0.33% Normal range lower half of range
The S&P 500 is sitting in a place where we don't yet have a clear push in either direction — yesterday's session closed only modestly higher with price in the lower half of its daily range, so we're watching rather than leaning right now. 💛 Today's red-folder events (high-impact news releases) are all CAD inflation prints, which don't directly move U.S. equities, so the picture stays data-light on the S&P side. We'd want to see price reclaim and hold the upper half of today's range before feeling confident about any upside lean — a firm close below recent structure could open the door to further softness.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 26,710 +0.08% Expanded range near swing LOW
NASDAQ is sitting near the bottom of its recent price range (the low end of where it's been bouncing) after a nearly flat session, so right now there's no clear directional signal to act on — we're in wait-and-see mode. 💛 The range expanded today (price moved more than its typical daily distance), which can sometimes signal exhaustion rather than continuation, but we'd want to see a strong move and close back above the 27,100 area before leaning bullish (upward). Today's Canadian inflation data is unlikely to move NASDAQ directly, so keep watching price itself for the next clue.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 27,100
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,380 +0.33% Normal range upper half of range
DAX closed slightly higher yesterday with a quiet, normal-sized day — there's no clear directional edge just yet, so we're staying patient and watching for confirmation before leaning either way 💛. If price can hold above the 25,200 area (a key support zone, meaning a floor where buyers have stepped in before), bulls — the buyers — may try to push for fresh highs; a daily close below that level would flip our thinking and open the door to more downside. For now, treat this as a 'show me' market — wait for price to tip its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,200
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 81,380 -0.15% Quiet range lower half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — no clear push in either direction just yet, and we want to see a stronger move before leaning one way. 💛 Price closed just barely lower last session and is sitting in the bottom half of its recent range (the area prices have been moving between), so we're watching to see if buyers step in here or if selling pressure quietly builds. No major news events are expected today, so keep an eye on whether Bitcoin can hold current levels — a sustained move and close above 83,500 would be the first sign a bullish bias (leaning upward) could form.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 83,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2400 -0.82% Normal range lower half of range
ETH (Ethereum's dollar price) is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range after a quiet, slightly red session — not a dramatic move, but there's no clear sign buyers are stepping in with confidence just yet. 💛 We don't have a strong lean in either direction right now, so we're watching to see whether price can reclaim and hold above the 2,450 area (a nearby ceiling price has been bumping into) before thinking about any upside ideas. Until then, we're simply observing and waiting for the picture to get clearer — patience is always a valid trading decision.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,450

CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
