Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.121 +0.16% Normal range lower half of range
EUR/USD closed just a touch higher last session, but with no major news events (no big scheduled announcements that could shake the market) on the calendar today and price sitting in the lower half of its daily range, there's no clear directional signal just yet 💛. We're watching to see if buyers can hold price above 1.1180 — a close below that level would tell us the mild upward tilt has faded and we'd need to reassess. For now, patience is your best tool — wait for price to show its hand before leaning either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1180
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.323 -0.2% Normal range mid-range
Cable (our nickname for the British pound versus the US dollar) closed slightly lower last session and is sitting in the middle of its recent price range — so right now we don't have a clear signal pulling us in either direction 💛. We'd want to see price either push up and close above 1.3280 to start leaning bullish (upward-tilting), or drop and hold below yesterday's low before considering a bearish (downward-tilting) lean. With no major news events on the calendar today, patience is your best tool — wait for the market to show its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3280
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158 -0.23% Normal range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting quietly right now — yesterday's session was nearly flat with a tiny dip, and there's no big news events on the calendar today to shake things up. We don't have a clear directional lean yet; what we'd want to see is price holding above 157.00 (the lower edge of recent support, meaning the floor where buyers have stepped in before) and pushing back toward 158.50 before feeling confident about any upside story. Until that confirmation comes, we're simply watching and waiting — no rush to lean either way 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6978 -0.1% Expanded range near swing LOW
Aussie-dollar is sitting right near the bottom of its recent range with no clear signal yet — we're in watch-and-wait mode for now 💛. If price holds this area and we start to see buyers step in with purpose, that would be the first sign a bounce could build; a clean close above 0.7020 (a nearby level where sellers have been active) would be the green light we'd want to see for any upward lean. For now, no strong bias either way — let the pair show its hand first.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7020
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.421 -0.03% Normal range upper half of range
USDCAD is giving us a genuinely mixed picture right now — price closed nearly flat (almost no movement from open to close) and there's no major news event pushing it in either direction today 💛. We don't have a clear enough tilt yet to lean bullish (upward) or bearish (downward), so for now we're watching and waiting. A sustained hold above 1.4210 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are in control, while a drop and close below 1.4180 would tell us the sellers are taking charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4180
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 209 -0.43% Normal range near swing HIGH
The pound-yen closed yesterday near the top of its recent range (the upper boundary of where price has been bouncing back and forth), but we don't have a clear directional bias just yet 💛. We're watching to see if price can hold these highs and push through, or if sellers step in and start pressing it lower — a meaningful close below 208.50 would be the first sign bears (sellers) are gaining control. For now, there's no strong lean in either direction, so patience is our best friend while we wait for the market to show its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.50
Gold moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 4170 +1.51% Normal range lower half of range
Gold had a strong session yesterday, closing up +1.51% — that kind of momentum (price moving with clear energy in one direction) gives us a moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) coming into today 💛. While price holds above the 3,300 area, the path of least resistance (the direction that feels easier for price to travel) favors the buyers, and we'd be watching for dips (small pullbacks lower) to potentially find support (a floor where buyers step back in). A daily close below 3,300 would flip this outlook and suggest the sellers have taken control — so keep that level on your radar as your line in the sand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,300
Silver moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 56.84 +2.32% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver posted a solid +2.32% gain last session (price moved up meaningfully in a single day) and that kind of momentum push often signals buyers are stepping in with purpose 💛. Our bias (leaning direction) stays moderately bullish (tilted upward) while Silver holds above the 55.60 area — a daily close beneath that level would tell us the buyers have lost control and we'd need to step back and reassess. The session was quiet in terms of range (Silver moved less than its usual daily distance), so watch for a potential expansion (a bigger-than-normal move) as price digests that push — confirmation above recent highs would be the green light we're looking for.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 55.60
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7744 +0.33% Normal range lower half of range
The S&P 500 closed slightly higher last session, but with price sitting in the lower half of the day's range (meaning it drifted back down after the early push), there's no clear signal forming just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push price back toward the upper half of the range — that would be the first sign a gentle upward lean is building. For now, no bold directional call; we wait for confirmation before leaning either way.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,940 -0.05% Expanded range near swing LOW
NASDAQ closed virtually flat yesterday — barely a whisper of movement — so there's no clear bias yet, and we're watching to see which side takes control 💛. Price is sitting near the swing low (the last little valley where buyers stepped in before), and yesterday's range expanded (meaning price moved more than its usual daily distance), which can sometimes signal exhaustion rather than a new trend. We'd want to see a strong hold and bounce from this area before leaning bullish (upward), or a clean break and close below current levels to consider a bearish (downward) tilt — your lean flips if price pushes back above 20,150.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,380 +0.33% Normal range upper half of range
DAX closed the last session just a touch higher and is sitting in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price spent most of the day closer to the highs than the lows), which is a small positive sign — but not enough on its own to call a clear direction yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can hold price above the 25,200 area; a clean daily close below that level would tell us the short-term strength has faded and we'd want to reassess. No major news events are lined up for DAX today, so this could be a quieter, range-bound (price moving sideways within familiar boundaries) kind of session — wait for a clearer push before committing to a lean.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,200
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 81,500 -0.78% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see spot right now — no clear push in either direction just yet, so we're not leaning bullish or bearish until price gives us a stronger signal 💛. If you see Bitcoin reclaim and hold above 83,200 (meaning it closes a candle above that level and stays there), that's when a bullish bias — a leaning-upward outlook — could start to take shape. For now, we're simply watching and being patient, because patience is one of the most valuable tools in your trading toolkit.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 83,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2420 -0.85% Normal range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly right now — no big news on the calendar today and yesterday's session closed slightly lower, leaving price in the bottom half of its daily range (meaning it drifted closer to the session's low than its high). We don't have a clear lean just yet; what we'd want to see is either a strong push and close back above 2,480 to build a case for buyers, or a continued slide under current levels to give sellers a story. For now, it's a watch-and-wait moment — let the market show its hand before stepping in 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,480

CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
