Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.116 -0.4% Normal range lower half of range
EUR/USD closed the last session on the softer side and is sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price spent most of the day closer to the lows than the highs), but the move was normal-sized — nothing dramatic yet 💛. With several heavy U.S. data releases and a Fed speaker all landing at the same time today, there's no clear directional lean right now — we really want to see how price reacts to that news before committing to a direction. Watch for a strong hold or break of 1.1200 as your guide — a decisive close above that level would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1200
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.321 -0.24% Quiet range mid-range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) closed yesterday with only a tiny dip of -0.24% and is sitting right in the middle of its daily range — no strong push in either direction yet, so there's no clear lean to work with today 💛. What makes this extra tricky is that we have a wave of high-impact news hitting at the same time this afternoon: UK GDP (a report on how much the economy grew or shrank), US Retail Sales (how much shoppers spent), US PPI (a measure of inflation at the producer level), AND both BOE Governor Bailey and Fed Chair Warsh speaking — any one of those can move Cable sharply, so we want to wait and see how price reacts rather than guessing ahead of the data. If you see Cable hold and push clearly above 1.3250 after the news, that would start to build a mild bullish case (leaning upward); a clean move and close below 1.3180 would flip our attention to the downside instead.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3180
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.5 +0.2% Quiet range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — price closed slightly higher last session but moved quietly (less distance than its usual daily range), so there's no clear push in either direction yet. 💛 A big wave of high-impact USD news hits all at once at 5:00pm PST — retail sales, inflation data (PPI), and Fed Chair Warsh speaking — and any of those could jolt this pair hard in either direction, so we want to see how price reacts before forming a lean. Watch for a strong close above the current area to hint at upside potential, while a drop and close below 157.80 would tell us sellers are stepping in and the mild upward tilt is off the table.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 157.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6956 -0.42% Normal range lower half of range
The Aussie-dollar (AUDUSD — how many US dollars one Australian dollar buys) is giving us a mixed picture right now, so we're sitting on our hands and waiting for the market to show its hand before leaning in either direction 💛. Price closed in the lower half of yesterday's range (the space between the day's highest and lowest point) after a quiet, normal-sized session — not enough evidence yet to call a clear direction. Watch for a strong push and hold above 0.6990 to start building a bullish case (a reason to lean upward), and keep an eye on UK GDP data later today, which can ripple across risk-sensitive currencies like the Aussie.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6990
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.428 +0.15% Normal range upper half of range
USDCAD is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — yesterday's session closed slightly higher, but there's no strong, clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 We'd want to see price hold above 1.4260 and make a convincing move higher before leaning bullish (upward-biased), so for now we're simply watching and waiting for confirmation. Also keep an eye on the GBP GDP release this afternoon, which can ripple through currency pairs and add some unexpected movement to the mix.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4220
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 209.4 -0.01% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — price closed almost flat (basically unchanged from where it opened) and the day's movement was normal-sized, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 The big thing to watch today is BOE Governor Bailey speaking at 5pm PST — his words can move Cable (British pound pairs) sharply and quickly, which means we really want to wait for that event to pass before forming any lean on direction. Until we see how the market reacts to Bailey and whether price can hold or lose the 210.20 area (a close above that level would start tilting things more bullish — leaning upward), the honest read here is no clear bias yet.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4177 -0.32% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold is sitting near the low of yesterday's range (the bottom of the price action from that session) with no strong directional tilt yet — the picture is mixed enough that we're in wait-and-see mode 💛. Several big US data releases hit at 5:00pm PST (Core PPI, Retail Sales, and friends), and those reports can shake Gold hard in either direction, so we'd want to see how price reacts before leaning one way. Watch for a clear close above or below today's range before forming a view — strong US data could add pressure on Gold, while a soft reading might give it a lift.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,250
Silver no clear bias
Close: 59.16 -1.63% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver had a quiet session (she moved less than her typical daily distance) and closed near the bottom of her range, so there's no clear bias just yet — we're watching to see whether buyers step in or sellers keep the pressure on. A reclaim (a strong push back above) of the 32.00 area would be the first sign bulls are waking up, while continued closes beneath it keep the cautious mood alive. For now, we wait for confirmation before leaning in either direction 💛.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7805 -0.02% Quiet range mid-range
The S&P 500 closed virtually flat (basically unchanged) last session with almost no movement — she's sitting quietly in the middle of her recent range, which tells us neither the bulls (buyers) nor the bears (sellers) have taken clear control just yet 💛. With no major news events on the calendar today and price action staying very calm, we're in a wait-and-see moment rather than a moment to lean one way. Watch for a decisive push and hold above recent highs or a drop below the 5,700 area — a close below that level would be the sign that the neutral picture has shifted toward the downside.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 30,570 -0.31% Quiet range lower half of range
NASDAQ is sitting in no-clear-bias territory right now — yesterday's session was only a tiny dip and price movement was quieter than usual (meaning the market didn't commit to a big move in either direction), so we don't have a strong signal to lean on yet 💛. Two inflation-related data releases — Core PPI and PPI (both measures of how much producers are paying for goods, which can ripple into broader market moves) — hit at 5:00pm PST today, and those numbers could shift the picture quickly. Watch how NASDAQ responds to that news; a firm hold and bounce above current levels could open a mild upside case, while a decisive push lower would be the first sign bears (sellers) are stepping in.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,260 -0.07% Normal range mid-range
The DAX (Germany's main stock index) closed almost exactly flat yesterday — just a tiny -0.07% dip — and price is sitting right in the middle of its recent range, which means neither the buyers nor the sellers have taken clear control yet 💛. With no major news events scheduled today, there's no obvious outside push in either direction, so we're in 'watch and wait' mode rather than leaning one way. A sustained move and close below 25,100 (the nearby support floor where buyers have been stepping in) would be the sign that the sellers are gaining the upper hand, while holding above it keeps the picture balanced.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,100
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 83,100 +1.63% Expanded range lower half of range
Bitcoin had a solid session yesterday, closing up 1.63%, but she's sitting in the lower half of her daily range (meaning price settled closer to the bottom of where she traded rather than the top), so we don't have a clear directional lean just yet 💛. We'd want to see her hold above the 81,500 area and push back toward the upper part of yesterday's range before leaning bullish (upward-tilting); a daily close below 81,500 would flip the picture and open the door to more downside. For now, watch and wait for confirmation rather than jumping in either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 81,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2497 +2.14% Expanded range near swing LOW
ETH had a solid session — closing up over 2% with more movement than her typical daily distance (what we call an expanded range) — but she finished near the bottom of that move, which keeps the picture a little mixed right now. 💛 We don't have a clear lean just yet; what we'd want to see is price holding above the 2,380 area (a key support shelf where buyers have stepped in before) and then pushing through the upper part of yesterday's range to feel more confident about upside. No high-impact news is scheduled today, so watch how she reacts at current levels — a strong hold and bounce could be the first sign of intention, while a close below 2,380 would tell us the sellers are still in charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 2,380

GBPUSD EURUSD USDCAD USDJPY
🎯 TFW Recommendation
GDP release — shows how healthy the economy is growing (or shrinking). A surprise beat or miss can move the currency. TFW tip: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 10–15 minutes around the release. GDP is a slow-burn indicator — it sets the tone more than it creates instant spikes. GDP is like a quarterly report card — markets care, but the reaction is usually measured 💛

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Inflation data (CPI, PPI, PCE) — markets care deeply because high or low inflation changes rate expectations. TFW tip: step back 15 minutes around the release on relevant currency pairs. The first candle tells you a lot — wait for it to close before acting. Inflation news = the market recalculating what rates might do next. Give it a moment 💛

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Retail Sales — measures consumer spending, a key part of economic health. Can move USD pairs (or the relevant currency). TFW tip: be cautious 10 minutes around the release — the move is usually manageable but can spike on big surprises. Retail Sales = how much people are spending. Markets take that personally 💛

Bank of England Rate Decision — a high-impact event for the pound. GBP pairs (especially GBPUSD and GBPJPY) can see fast, sharp moves. TFW teaching: avoid GBP pairs 15 minutes before and 20 minutes after the decision. Wait for the initial spike to settle and a clear candle to form before looking for entries. The BoE loves to surprise — give the pound a moment to catch its breath before joining in 💛

🎯 TFW Recommendation
High-impact economic event — this can cause sharp, fast moves on the relevant currency. TFW teaching: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 15–20 minutes around the release. Wait for the volatility to settle and a clear candle structure to form before looking for entries. When in doubt with high-impact news, patience is always the right trade 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
