Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.12 -0.07% Normal range near swing LOW
Euro-dollar is sitting right at the edge of its recent swing low (the last little price valley where buyers stepped in), and with four major U.S. inflation reports — CPI numbers that tell us how fast prices are rising — all dropping at the same time today, the pair could move sharply in either direction 💛. We don't have a clear lean yet because big news events like these can flip the picture fast, so we're watching to see whether price holds above 1.1200 or breaks below it after the data lands. A strong close above that level could open the door for a recovery bounce, while a clean break below it would suggest the bears (sellers) are taking control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1200
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.324 +0.09% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting right at the low end of its recent price range and barely moved last session — so right now there's no clear push in either direction, and we want to wait for the market to show its hand before leaning anywhere. 💛 A big reason to stay patient is that US inflation data (CPI — a report that measures how much everyday prices have risen) drops today, and that kind of news can swing Cable sharply in seconds. If price holds above 1.3240 and the CPI numbers come in softer than expected (meaning prices rose less than forecast, which tends to weaken the dollar and lift Cable), that could be the confirmation we need to start leaning upward — but a close back below 1.3240 would tell us the bears (sellers) are back in charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3240
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.2 +0.09% Quiet range near swing HIGH
Dollar-yen is sitting quietly near the top of its recent range (the high end of where price has been travelling), but with US inflation data — the CPI report, which measures how much everyday prices have risen — dropping today, we really don't have a clear picture yet of which way this pair wants to go. 💛 We'd want to see price hold and push through recent highs to consider any upward lean, or a clean drop and close below 157.40 to open the door to a bearish (downward) shift — until then, this one is firmly in 'watch and wait' territory. Let the news reaction settle before forming a bias (a directional lean), because high-impact events like CPI can flip the chart in seconds.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 157.40
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6985 +0.38% Quiet range lower half of range
The Aussie-dollar is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — we had a small positive close last session, but price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to the bottom of where it's been trading than the top), and today is absolutely stacked with high-impact news on both sides of the pair 💛. We have USD inflation data (CPI — a measure of how much prices are rising in the US) AND Australian jobs numbers dropping at the same time, so any lean we try to form before those reports could flip instantly. Let's wait for the dust to settle after 5:00pm PST — a strong hold and bounce above 0.6985 could open a mild upward lean, while a close below that level would suggest the bears (sellers) are back in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6985
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.426 +0.25% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USDCAD is sitting near the top of its recent range (the zone where price has been bouncing around lately) with no clear directional lean just yet — we're in a wait-and-see moment. 💛 The big event to watch is USD CPI (the report that tells us how fast prices are rising in the US economy) dropping today, which could shake this pair significantly in either direction. Until we see how price reacts to that news and whether it holds or loses the 1.4220 area, there's no reliable bias to act on — confirmation first, then direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4220
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 209.4 +0.16% Quiet range mid-range
The pound-yen is sitting quietly in the middle of its recent range (the space between yesterday's high and low), and with no big news events (red folder = high-impact data releases) on the calendar today, there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can hold price above 208.20 — a drop and close below that level would tell us the mild upward tilt has faded and we'd need to reassess. For now, this is a 'wait and see' moment rather than a strong directional call, so patience is your best tool here.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 208.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4191 -0.61% Normal range lower half of range
Gold is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — it slipped slightly last session but moved within a normal daily range (nothing dramatic), so there's no clear directional lean yet 💛. The big event to watch today is the U.S. CPI inflation report at 5pm PST, which can shake Gold hard in either direction, so we want to wait and see how price reacts before forming a bias (a directional opinion). If Gold holds and pushes back above recent highs, a bullish lean (leaning upward) could form — but a continued close lower keeps the mild softness in play.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,230
Silver no clear bias
Close: 60.14 -0.87% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver closed near the bottom of its session range (meaning price finished close to where it was weakest) after a quiet, below-average day of movement — so there's no clear directional tilt to lean on right now 💛. With USD CPI (a big inflation report that can shake dollar-priced metals hard) dropping today, we really want to wait and see how price reacts before forming any bias at all. Watch how Silver behaves around the 31.00 area — a strong hold there could open a conversation about buyers stepping in, but a clean close below it would be the signal that sellers are still in control.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7807 -0.06% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed virtually flat (barely moved — less than a tenth of a percent) last session and is sitting near the top of its recent range, so we don't have a clear lean in either direction just yet 💛. The big wildcard today is the US CPI report (the inflation reading — how much prices rose for everyday goods) dropping at 5pm PST, which could shake things up significantly in either direction. Until that number lands and price shows us how it wants to react, we're watching patiently — a strong hold and push above current highs could open a bullish story (prices wanting to climb), while a drop and close below the 5,700 area would tell us the bears (sellers) have taken control.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 30,570 -0.31% Quiet range lower half of range
NASDAQ is sitting in a wait-and-see spot right now — no clear push in either direction just yet, and that's actually okay 💛. Today's CPI prints (inflation data — think of it as a report card on how expensive things are getting) dropping at 5 PM PST could shake things up significantly, so we want to see how price reacts before leaning one way or the other. A strong hold and bounce above the 19,000 area after the news could open the door for bulls (buyers) to step in, while a decisive close below 19,000 would be the signal that sellers are in control.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,280 +0.76% Quiet range mid-range
DAX closed positively yesterday but is sitting mid-range (right in the middle of its recent high-to-low zone) with quieter-than-usual movement — so there's no clear signal to lean on just yet 💛. We'd want to see price push up and hold above recent highs before calling this a genuine upward move, or watch for a drop and close below 24,980 to suggest sellers are taking control. For now, this is a 'wait and see' moment — no rush, no pressure.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 24,980
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 81,760 -2.29% Normal range mid-range
Bitcoin had a rough session yesterday, dropping over 2% and closing mid-range (meaning price settled right in the middle of the day's high and low — not a strong close in either direction), so there's no clear signal pointing us one way yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push price back above 84,000, which would be the first sign that bullish energy (upward momentum) might be returning — until then, we simply don't have enough confirmation to lean bullish or bearish with confidence. With no big news events on the calendar today, this could be a patient, watch-and-wait kind of day rather than a rush-in moment.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 84,000
ETHUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 2444 -3.56% Expanded range lower half of range
ETH closed the session down hard at 2,444 — a sharp -3.56% drop — and price settled in the lower half of its daily range (meaning sellers had control right up to the close, not buyers stepping back in). On top of that, the candle's range expanded (ETH moved more than its usual daily distance), which tells us this wasn't a quiet drift lower — there was real selling pressure behind it. Our bias leans bearish (tilting downward) while ETH stays beneath 2,530; a push back above that level would tell us the sellers have lost control and we'd want to reassess. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,530

Inflation data (CPI, PPI, PCE) — markets care deeply because high or low inflation changes rate expectations. TFW tip: step back 15 minutes around the release on relevant currency pairs. CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

GDP release — shows how healthy the economy is growing (or shrinking). A surprise beat or miss can move the currency. TFW tip: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 10–15 minutes around the release. GDP is a slow-burn indicator — it sets the tone more than it creates instant spikes. Retail Sales — measures consumer spending, a key part of economic health. Can move USD pairs (or the relevant currency). TFW teaching: avoid GBP pairs 15 minutes before and 20 minutes after the decision. Wait for the initial spike to settle and a clear candle to form before looking for entries. The BoE loves to surprise — give the pound a moment to catch its breath before joining in 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
