Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.12 -0.46% Normal range near swing LOW
Euro-dollar is sitting near the bottom of yesterday's range (the low end of where price moved) after a modest dip last session, so right now there's no clear bias — we're watching to see if buyers step in here or if price keeps sliding. If the pair can hold above 1.1200 and push back up through 1.1230, that would be the first sign buyers are defending this area; until then, we're waiting for confirmation before leaning either way. No big news events are scheduled today, so price action itself will be our guide 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1265
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.321 -0.39% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) closed slightly lower last session and is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been visiting lately), so the picture is a little mixed right now — not enough evidence yet to call a clear direction 💛. We're watching to see whether price can hold and bounce from this area, or whether it slips further; a recovery back above 1.3265 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in with conviction. With no big news events scheduled today, this one may just need a little more time to show its hand before we commit to a lean.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3265
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.1 -0.15% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USD/JPY is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now, so we're in watch-and-wait mode rather than leaning clearly in either direction 💛. Price is near the top of its recent range (the zone where sellers have shown up before), but yesterday's session was very quiet with no big move, so there's no strong signal just yet. If price holds above 157.40 and we see buyers step in with purpose, that's when a clearer upward lean could start to form — but until then, patience is your edge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 157.40
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6964 -0.26% Normal range lower half of range
The Aussie-dollar is in a bit of a 'wait and see' mood right now — no clear push in either direction yet, so we're not leaning bullish or bearish until price gives us a stronger signal 💛. Yesterday closed slightly lower and price is sitting in the bottom half of its daily range (meaning it's closer to the day's lowest price than its highest), which is worth watching, but not enough on its own to call a direction. We'd want to see a clean hold and push above 0.6990 to start thinking upside, or a continued drift lower to open the door to more selling pressure.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6990
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.426 +0.32% Normal range upper half of range
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed the last session in the upper half of its daily range with a modest gain, giving us a mild bullish bias (leaning upward) while price holds above the 1.4200 level — that's the line in the sand where this lean would be wrong 💛. No high-impact news events are scheduled today, so price action (how the candles form on the chart) will be our guide — watch for the pair to continue building on yesterday's strength while it stays above that key zone. A close back below 1.4200 would flip us to neutral and tell us sellers have stepped back in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4200
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.9 -0.55% Normal range mid-range
The pound-yen (GBPJPY) is sitting in a no-clear-bias zone right now — yesterday's small dip of -0.55% wasn't strong enough to declare a real directional lean, and price is resting right in the middle of its recent range (the space between the high and low it's been trading in). With no high-impact news events on the calendar today to shake things up, we're in 'wait and see' mode — watch for price to make a decisive move and close clearly above 210.20 or break convincingly lower before committing to a bias. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4157 +0.39% Quiet range lower half of range
Gold had a gentle positive close last session, but the overall picture right now is mixed — she's sitting in the lower half of her recent range (meaning price is closer to the bottom of where she's been trading lately) and the session was quiet with smaller-than-usual movement. No clear directional edge has formed yet 💛 — we'd want to see Gold hold above recent support (a price floor where buyers have stepped in before) and push back into the upper half of her range before leaning in any direction with confidence.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,300
Silver no clear bias
Close: 59.06 -1.39% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver had a quiet session yesterday (meaning she moved less than her typical daily distance) and closed in the lower half of her range — a small sign sellers had a little more control, but not enough to call a clear direction yet. 💛 Right now there's no strong bias (no clear lean up or down) for Silver, so we're watching to see whether she can reclaim higher ground or continues to slip — a push back above the 30.20 area would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in. Until we see that confirmation, patience is your best tool here.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7765 -0.47% Normal range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed slightly lower last session and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the upper boundary of where price has been moving back and forth), so there's no clear directional signal to lean on just yet 💛. We'd want to see price either push convincingly above the recent swing high (the last peak price reached before pulling back) to consider a bullish tilt (leaning upward), or a clean drop below nearby support (a price floor the index has bounced from) to open a bearish case. For now, this is a watch-and-wait picture — no confirmed edge in either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 5,870
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 30,880 +0.51% Quiet range upper half of range
NASDAQ closed the last session in the upper half of its range (meaning price finished closer to the day's high than its low) with a modest green candle — a gentle sign that buyers were in control 💛. The move was quiet compared to its typical daily distance (ATR, or average true range), so we're not seeing any big explosive push yet, but the bias (leaning) stays moderately bullish while price holds above 30,600. A daily close below that level would put the upward lean in question and shift us to a more cautious, wait-and-see stance.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 30,600
DAX moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 24,810 -1.19% Quiet range lower half of range
DAX closed yesterday with a decent drop — down about 1.2% — and is sitting in the lower half of its recent price range (the band between recent highs and lows), which tells us sellers were in charge into the close 💛. Our lean (the direction we're tilting) stays cautiously bearish (leaning downward) while price holds below 24,950; if we see a strong candle close back above that level, this whole downside story gets called off and we'd want to reassess. No big news events are scheduled today, so price action (how the candles actually move) will be our best guide — watch for whether sellers continue to press or whether buyers step in to defend this area.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 24,950
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 82,550 +1.06% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin closed a little higher last session but finished in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price faded from its highs before the candle closed), so we don't have a clear directional signal just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can push price back above the mid-range area and hold it — that would be the first clue that momentum is building to the upside. For now, no strong lean either way; a clean daily close below 80,500 would tell us sellers are back in control and shift our thinking more cautious.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 80,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2486 +0.55% Quiet range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly — the session move was small and price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to the bottom of where it's been trading than the top), so there's no clear directional pull to lean into just yet 💛. We'd want to see ETH climb back above the mid-range area and hold before calling any real bullish (upward) momentum, and a daily close below 2,420 would tell us sellers are back in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,420

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
