Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.12 -0.46% Normal range near swing LOW
EURUSD is sitting right at the bottom of yesterday's range (the lowest price she touched before closing), but there's no clear push in either direction just yet — so we're watching rather than leaning 💛. A move and close back above 1.1265 would be the first sign buyers are stepping back in; until then, we simply wait for the market to show her hand before committing to a bias (a directional tilt). No major news events are scheduled today, which means price could chop (move sideways without purpose), so patience is your best tool right now.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1265
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.321 -0.39% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for the British pound versus the US dollar) is sitting close to the bottom of yesterday's range after a quiet pullback, but we don't have a strong enough signal yet to lean clearly in either direction 💛. What we'd want to see before forming a bearish view is a clean break and close below the recent swing low (the last little price floor it bounced from) around 1.3200 — that would open the door to further softness. For now, we're watching and waiting for confirmation rather than jumping ahead of the price.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3260
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.1 -0.15% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USD/JPY is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — price closed near the top of its recent range (the high end of where it's been bouncing) but the session move was tiny and there's no big news today to push it clearly in either direction. We're watching to see whether buyers can hold price above 157.20 (the last meaningful support level, or floor, where buyers stepped in before); a clean close below that level would tell us the bullish case (the idea that price wants to move higher) is losing steam. For now, there's no clear bias we'd trade off — patience here is the real edge 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 157.20
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6964 -0.26% Normal range lower half of range
The Aussie-dollar is giving us a bit of a mixed picture right now, so we're holding off on leaning strongly in either direction just yet 💛. Price slipped a little last session and is sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the day's low than the high), but the move wasn't big enough to call a clear trend. We'd want to see price either hold and push back above 0.6990 to start thinking bullish (leaning upward), or break down convincingly below current lows before joining any downside move — no clear bias formed yet, just watching patiently.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6990
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.426 +0.32% Normal range upper half of range
USDCAD is giving us a bit of a mixed picture right now, so we're in watch-and-wait mode rather than leaning clearly in either direction 💛. Yesterday closed slightly higher and price is sitting in the upper half of its range (meaning it's closer to yesterday's high than its low), which is a small nudge upward — but not enough on its own to call a clear direction. We'd want to see price hold above 1.4260 and push with momentum (strong, purposeful movement) before considering a bullish bias (leaning upward); a close back below 1.4220 would tell us that nudge has faded.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4220
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.9 -0.55% Normal range mid-range
The pound-yen closed the last session slightly softer at 208.90, sitting in the middle of its recent range (the zone between yesterday's high and low) with no clear directional pull just yet. 💛 There's no major news scheduled today to shake things up, so we're really in a 'wait and see' moment — watching to see whether buyers step in and defend this area or whether sellers take over and push price lower. A sustained move back above 210.20 would be the signal that shifts our thinking; until then, no clear bias has formed and patience is the play.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4157 +0.39% Quiet range lower half of range
Gold closed slightly higher last session, but the move was quiet — meaning she didn't travel as far as her usual daily distance — and she's sitting in the lower half of her recent range, so there's no clear direction to lean into just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push her back toward the top of that range, or whether sellers keep the pressure on near these lower levels. No major news events are touching Gold today, so price action (the raw movement of price itself) will be our guide — a solid hold above current levels would be the first thing we'd want to see before feeling any confidence in an upward tilt.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,300
Silver no clear bias
Close: 59.06 -1.39% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver closed lower last session and is sitting in the bottom half of its daily range (meaning price is closer to where it's been weak, not strong), so there's no clear direction to lean into just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push price back above recent highs to build a bullish case (a reason to lean upward), or whether sellers continue pressing — right now neither side has proven themselves. No major scheduled news events are touching Silver today, so stay patient and wait for price to show its hand before committing to a direction.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7765 -0.47% Normal range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — no clear bias has formed yet, and we're watching to see which side steps up 💛. Price closed slightly lower last session and is resting near the top of its recent range (the zone where sellers have shown up before), so we want to see how it behaves here before leaning either way. A sustained push and hold above 5,870 could open the door for buyers, while a failure to hold current levels and a move lower would be the first sign bears (sellers) are in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 5,870
NASDAQ moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 30,730 -1.39% Expanded range upper half of range
NASDAQ had a rough session yesterday, closing down nearly 1.4% with an expanded range (meaning she moved more than her usual daily distance — a sign of real selling pressure, not just a quiet drift lower) 💛. Our bias (leaning direction) stays cautiously bearish (tilted downward) while price holds below 31,200 — if we don't reclaim that level, the path of least resistance could keep pointing south toward lower support zones (areas where buyers have stepped in before). A clean daily close back above 31,200 would flip this picture and tell us the bears have lost control, so keep that level on your radar as your line in the sand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 31,200
DAX moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 24,810 -1.19% Quiet range lower half of range
DAX closed yesterday down about 1.2% and settled into the lower half of its recent range (think of the range like a price channel it's been bouncing around in — she's sitting closer to the bottom of that channel right now), which gives us a moderate bearish lean (tilting downward) heading into today. While price stays below 24,950, the bias (our directional lean) stays cautious and we'd be watching for any continuation lower. A clear close back above 24,950 would flip that picture and tell us the sellers have lost control 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 24,950
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 82,550 +1.06% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin had a decent green session yesterday, closing up just over 1%, but she's sitting in the lower half of her daily range (meaning price is closer to where it was cheap today than where it was expensive) — so there's no clear directional story yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above 81,200 and push back toward the upper half of the range before any real bullish lean (upward tilt) starts to take shape. For now, we're watching and waiting for confirmation rather than leaning strongly either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 81,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2486 +0.55% Quiet range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly — no big news today and her recent session barely moved (what traders call a quiet range, meaning she covered less ground than her typical daily distance), so there's no clear directional signal yet 💛. We're watching to see if she can hold above yesterday's close of 2,486 and push into the upper half of her range (the space between today's high and low); a clean move higher with some energy behind it would be the first sign a lean might be forming. Until then, this is a wait-and-watch moment — a close back below 2,486 would tell us even that small flicker of warmth has faded.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,486

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
