Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.12 -0.46% Normal range near swing LOW
EURUSD (the euro versus the US dollar) is sitting near the low of yesterday's range after a quiet pullback session, so right now we don't have a clear directional lean — we're watching to see whether buyers step in here or price continues to drift lower. 💛 If we see a clean hold and bounce from this area, that would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are defending the zone; if instead price slips and closes below 1.1200, that opens the door for a deeper dip toward the next support (a floor where buyers have shown up before). No major news events are scheduled for this pair today, so price action (how the candles form on the chart) will be our guide.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1265
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.321 -0.39% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) closed the last session slightly lower and is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been touching lately), but there's no clear push in either direction just yet — we're watching to see whether buyers step in here or price keeps drifting. No major news events are lined up today, so we'll let the market show its hand first before leaning bullish or bearish 💛. A clean move and close above 1.3260 would be our first signal that buyers are taking control; until then, we stay patient and wait for confirmation.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3260
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.1 -0.15% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USD/JPY is sitting right near the top of its recent range (the high point price has been bumping up against), but with no major news events today and a very quiet session yesterday, there's no clear signal just yet for which way she wants to move 💛. We're watching to see if buyers (the bulls) can hold price above 157.50 — that would be the first sign a push higher might be building. Until then, it's a wait-and-see moment, and a close below 156.80 would tell us the lean has shifted lower instead.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6964 -0.26% Normal range lower half of range
AUDUSD is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (the full high-to-low distance price traveled) after a quiet, slightly softer session — so right now we don't have a clear directional lean (a reason to favor up or down) just yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether price can reclaim 0.6990 to the upside, or whether sellers stay in control and push things lower — either move would give us more to work with. With no major news events (red folder = high-impact data releases) on the calendar today, AUD/USD may stay range-bound (stuck between two levels without a strong move) until the market shows its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6990
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.426 +0.32% Normal range upper half of range
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed the last session a little higher and settled in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price finished closer to the session's high than its low), which gives us a mild bullish bias (a lean upward) going into today. While price holds above 1.4200, that upward tilt stays intact and we can watch for the pair to push toward the recent highs. 💛 A daily close back below 1.4200 would be our signal that the buyers have lost control and this lean needs a rethink.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4200
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.9 -0.55% Normal range mid-range
The pound-yen is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — no clear signal pulling us firmly in either direction just yet 💛. Yesterday's session closed slightly lower, but the move was within a normal daily range (nothing unusually big or dramatic), and price is resting in the middle of that range rather than pushing toward either end. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push back above 210.20 (which would start to shift things more positive) or whether sellers take control and press lower — that confirmation is what we'd want to see before leaning one way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4157 +0.39% Quiet range lower half of range
Gold closed slightly higher last session, but the move was quiet (smaller than her usual daily distance) and she's sitting in the lower half of her recent range — so there's no clear signal yet which way she wants to go 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push price back toward the upper part of the range, or whether sellers keep her pinned low — that confirmation is what we'd need before leaning in either direction. For now, no clear bias — patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,200
Silver no clear bias
Close: 59.06 -1.39% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver had a soft session yesterday, closing down and sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price ended the day closer to the lows than the highs) — but with no major news events on the calendar today and a quiet range (Silver moved less than her usual daily distance), there's no clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend current prices or whether sellers keep the pressure on before committing to any lean. A move back above the 30.20 area would be the first sign the picture is shifting more constructive (positive) for Silver — until then, we stay patient and let the market show her hand.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7765 -0.47% Normal range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 (a broad index that tracks 500 large US companies — think of it as the pulse of the US stock market) doesn't have a clear lean just yet, sitting near its recent swing high (the top of a recent price peak) after a small dip last session. We're watching to see whether buyers step back in to defend this area or whether price starts to slip lower — a clean move and close below recent support (a price floor where buyers have shown up before) would be the first sign a bearish tilt (leaning downward) is forming. No high-impact news events today means price action itself will be our guide, so let's wait for confirmation before committing to a direction 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 5,870
NASDAQ moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 30,730 -1.39% Expanded range upper half of range
NASDAQ closed lower by 1.39% last session with an expanded range (meaning price moved more than its typical daily distance), which tells us sellers showed up with real force 💛. Our lean is moderately bearish (tilting downward) while price stays below the 31,200 area — a recovery and close back above that level would be the signal that this dip is done and we'd need to rethink the setup. Watch for whether sellers continue to press lower, but keep in mind no outcome is certain, so manage your risk carefully with every trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 31,200
DAX moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 24,810 -1.19% Quiet range lower half of range
DAX closed yesterday down over 1% and settled in the lower half of its recent range (meaning price is hugging the bottom of its typical price window rather than the top), so we're leaning cautiously bearish (tilting toward more downside) for today's session. 💛 As long as price stays below 24,950, the pressure looks more likely to continue pushing lower — a recovery back above that level would change the picture and tell us the sellers aren't fully in control. Watch how price reacts around yesterday's close; if it can't reclaim higher ground early in the session, the path of least resistance (the easier direction for price to drift) may stay downward.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 24,950
BTCUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 81,680 -1.92% Expanded range lower half of range
Bitcoin closed the last session down nearly 2% and finished in the lower half of its daily candle (meaning price spent most of the day drifting toward the lows rather than recovering), which gives us a moderate bearish lean — meaning we're tilting toward caution on the downside — heading into today 💛. The range expanded (Bitcoin moved more than its typical daily distance), and when that kind of big move closes weak, it often signals sellers are in control for now. That bearish lean stays valid while price holds below 83,500 — a clear close back above that level would tell us the picture has shifted and we'd need to reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 83,500
ETHUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 2472 -3.95% Expanded range lower half of range
ETH (Ethereum, the second-biggest crypto) had a rough session — sliding nearly 4% and closing in the lower half of its daily range, which tells us sellers were in control right up until the close 💛. The range expanded (price moved more than its usual daily distance), so that drop wasn't just a little wobble — it had real energy behind it, and our bias leans bearish (tilting downward) while price stays below 2,550. A clear reclaim and daily close back above 2,550 would be our signal to reassess and step back to neutral.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,550

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
