Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.125 +0.33% Expanded range near swing LOW
EUR/USD is giving us a mixed picture right now — no clear tilt just yet 💛. Price closed near the bottom of its session range (the lowest point of yesterday's price action) after an expanded range day (meaning it moved more than its usual daily distance), which is worth watching. We'd want to see price reclaim and hold above 1.1310 before leaning bullish (upward), or a clean continuation lower to start considering a bearish (downward) lean — for now, patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1310
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.327 +0.36% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting near the bottom of yesterday's range, which gives us a mixed picture — no strong pull in either direction just yet 💛. The main news events today are Canadian data releases, which don't directly move the pound-dollar pair, so external volatility (big sudden moves from news) is less of a concern here. We'd want to see price either hold and push back above 1.3300 to start building a case for buyers, or break and close below current lows to give sellers a clearer signal — until then, we're simply watching and waiting for the market to show its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3320
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.3 +0.21% Quiet range upper half of range
USDJPY is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see spot right now — there's no clear push in either direction yet, so we're watching rather than leaning 💛. Price did close slightly higher last session and is holding in the upper half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to recent highs than lows), but the quiet movement (smaller-than-usual daily distance) tells us the market isn't committing just yet. To see a real bullish lean (upward tilt) form, we'd want to see price hold above 157.50 and start expanding its range with purpose — a close below that level would be the signal that the modest strength has faded.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 157.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6982 +0.21% Normal range lower half of range
AUDUSD is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — yesterday's tiny gain of +0.21% gives us only the faintest upward nudge, and price is hanging in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the day's lows than its highs), so there's no clear signal to lean on just yet. 💛 The red-folder events today (high-impact news releases) are actually Canadian data, which can ripple into risk-sensitive pairs like AUDUSD indirectly, so we want to see how price reacts around 5:00pm PST before reading too much into any short-term move. Watch for a clean hold and push above the mid-range area for any bullish confirmation (a sign buyers are stepping in); bias would shift more cautious if price slips and closes below 0.6950.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6950
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.421 -0.36% Normal range near swing HIGH
USDCAD is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — price closed near the top of yesterday's range (meaning it spent most of the day pushing higher) but slipped just a little by the close, and we have two big Canadian jobs reports dropping today at 5 PM PST that could shake things up in either direction. Events like CAD Employment Change and Unemployment Rate (basically Canada's monthly jobs count and how many people are actively looking for work) are the kind of news that can move this pair fast and hard, so we want to wait and see what those numbers say before leaning one way or the other. No clear bias yet 💛 — watch how price reacts to those reports, and if it pushes and holds above 1.4260, that would start building a case for the bulls (buyers) to take charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4260
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 210 +0.58% Normal range mid-range
The pound-yen closed yesterday with a small gain and is sitting right in the middle of its recent range — not giving us a strong signal in either direction just yet. 💛 We're watching to see if price can hold above 208.50 (a nearby support level, meaning a price floor where buyers have stepped in before); a daily close below that would tell us the mild positive lean we're seeing has faded. For now, there's no clear bias formed — we'd want to see a clean push and hold above recent highs (the top of the current price range) before leaning bullish (upward) with more confidence.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 208.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4141 -1.11% Normal range lower half of range
Gold had a rough session yesterday, closing down over 1% and finishing in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price settled closer to the day's low than its high) — but the picture isn't strongly tilted in either direction just yet 💛. There are no big economic news events scheduled today that could shake Gold hard, so we're really in a 'wait and see' moment, watching to see whether buyers step back in or sellers keep the pressure on. For now, the bias (our overall lean for the day) stays unclear — a strong push and daily close back above 3,275 would be needed to flip things more meaningfully bullish (upward-leaning), while continued weakness below current prices would be the first sign bears (sellers) are still in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,275
Silver moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 59.9 -2.08% Normal range near swing LOW
Silver slid -2.08% last session and closed near its swing low (the lowest point of the recent price range, where buyers last stepped in), which keeps a cautious, moderately bearish bias (leaning downward) in place for now. Bias stays bearish while price holds below the 31.20 area — a clean recovery and close back above that level would tell us the selling pressure has eased and we'd want to reassess. With no major scheduled news events today, watch how Silver reacts around this swing low zone; if buyers show up with strength here, that's the first sign we'd need before considering any upside scenario. 💛
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7802 -0.22% Quiet range upper half of range
The S&P 500 is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — no clear bias has formed just yet, and we're watching to see what the market wants to do next. 💛 Price is holding in the upper half of its recent range (meaning it closed closer to the highs of the day than the lows), which is a small positive sign, but yesterday's session was quiet with only a tiny dip, so we don't have enough momentum in either direction to call a lean yet. Keep an eye on whether price can hold its footing here — a clean move and close below the 5,700 area would be the signal that the picture has shifted and we'd need to rethink the outlook entirely.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 31,160 -0.21% Normal range upper half of range
NASDAQ closed nearly flat yesterday with only a tiny dip of -0.21%, and right now there's no clear bias forming yet — we need a little more evidence before leaning in either direction 💛. If price can hold above the 30,800 area (think of that as a floor the market has respected recently) and starts pushing higher, that would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are taking control. For now, we're simply watching and waiting — no confirmed lean yet, just patience.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 30,800
DAX moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 25,100 -1.35% Normal range near swing LOW
DAX closed yesterday down 1.35% and is sitting near the swing low (the lowest point price recently bounced from), which keeps a mild bearish bias (a lean toward further downside) in play for now. 💛 While price stays below 25,320, we'd watch for continued softness — but a daily close back above that level would tell us the sellers are losing control and we'd want to reassess. No major news events are scheduled today, so price action itself will be our guide — stay patient and wait to see how DAX behaves around this swing low before making any decisions.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,320
BTCUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 83,280 -2.67% Expanded range lower half of range
Bitcoin closed the last session deep in the red with a sharp 2.67% drop, and price is sitting in the lower half of its daily range (the bottom portion of where it moved between high and low) — that's not a confident picture for buyers right now 💛. The range expanded (meaning Bitcoin moved more than its typical daily distance), which often signals real momentum behind the move rather than just a quiet drift, so the bearish lean (tilting downward) deserves some respect. Bias stays cautious while price remains under 85,500; a push back above that level would be the first sign sellers are losing their grip and we'd want to reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 85,500
ETHUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 2574 -4.6% Expanded range lower half of range
ETH had a rough session, dropping 4.60% and closing in the lower half of its daily range — that tells us sellers (folks pushing price down) had control by the close 💛. The range expanded (meaning she moved more than her typical daily distance), which adds weight to that bearish pressure, so our bias leans cautious-to-the-downside while price stays under 2,650. A clean push and daily close back above 2,650 would flip this outlook and suggest the bears have lost control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,650

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
