Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.122 -0.33% Normal range lower half of range
EURUSD is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see spot right now — yesterday's small dip (price slipped about 0.33%) and the close settling in the lower half of its daily range (the distance price traveled) haven't given us a clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 We'd want to see price either hold and reclaim the 1.1265 area (that's our line in the sand — a close back above it would start tilting things brighter) or break down convincingly below current levels before committing to a lean. No big news events are scheduled to shake things up today, so patience is your best friend — let price show its hand first.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1265
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.322 -0.18% Normal range lower half of range
Cable (the British pound versus the US dollar) closed just slightly lower last session and is sitting in the lower half of its daily range — not a strong signal in either direction just yet. 💛 We don't have a clear lean here; what we're really watching for is how price behaves around the 1.3220 area and, more importantly, how the market reacts when BOE Governor Bailey speaks this evening — his words can move the pound significantly. If Cable holds above 1.3260 and Bailey sounds upbeat about the UK economy, that could be the confirmation we'd need to consider a cautiously bullish tilt (leaning upward); a close below 1.3220 would open the door to further softness.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3260
USDJPY moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 158 +0.14% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The dollar-yen closed near the top of its recent range (the highest prices it's been trading around lately), and yesterday's small green session suggests buyers are still showing up 💛. While price holds above 156.50, a mild bullish bias (leaning upward) stays in play — meaning we'd watch for the pair to keep pressing higher from here. A daily close below 156.50 would flip that picture and signal the lean is no longer valid.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6967 +0.22% Quiet range lower half of range
The Aussie-dollar is sitting quietly today with no major news events (no big economic announcements) on the calendar, so there's no strong push in either direction just yet 💛. Price closed in the lower half of its recent range (the space between the day's high and low), which means we're watching to see if buyers step in to defend this area before committing to any lean. We'd want to see a clear move and hold above yesterday's close of 0.6967 before a directional picture (a clearer sense of which way price wants to go) starts to form.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6967
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.426 +0.07% Normal range upper half of range
USDCAD is sitting in the upper half of yesterday's range (meaning price closed closer to the session high than the low), but the move was tiny — just +0.07% — so there's no clear bias forming just yet 💛. We're watching to see if buyers can hold price above 1.4260 and push with some energy, or if sellers step in and drag it back toward 1.4220, which is where this mild upward tilt would no longer make sense. With no high-impact news events (the red-folder surprises that shake a pair hard) on the calendar today, we may just see calm, sideways action — so patience is your best tool right now.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4220
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.8 -0.04% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen closed almost flat with a tiny -0.04% move last session, and while price is sitting in the upper half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the day's high than its low), the picture isn't giving us a clear direction just yet 💛. BOE Governor Bailey speaks today at 5pm PST, and his words can move Cable and the pound-yen quickly — so we want to wait and see how price reacts to that news before leaning either way. Watch for a decisive push above 210.20 (which would suggest buyers are taking control) or a rejection and drop back toward lower levels as a signal that sellers may be stepping in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 210.20
Gold moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 4187 +0.73% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold closed the last session up 0.73% and is sitting near the swing low (the most recent little valley where price bounced before), which is often where buyers step back in — so our bias leans gently bullish (tilting upward) from here 💛. That lean stays alive while Gold holds above 3,120; a clean daily close below that level would tell us the buyers aren't defending it and we'd want to step back and reassess. No big news events are scheduled to shake Gold today, so price action (what the chart itself is showing us) gets to lead the story.
Silver no clear bias
Close: 61.17 +0.49% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver is in a no-clear-bias-yet zone right now 💛 — she closed near the swing low (the last little valley price bounced from) on quiet movement (smaller than her typical daily range), so we don't yet have a strong signal in either direction. Watch for a decisive push and close back above recent session highs to start building a bullish lean (upward tilt); until that happens, we're simply waiting for the market to show her hand before committing to a direction.
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7819 +0.58% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed the last session up 0.58% and is sitting near its recent swing high (the highest price it's touched lately), which tells us buyers are still in control of the conversation. Our bias leans gently bullish (tilting upward) while price holds above 5,700 — a close below that level would be the signal that something has shifted and we'd want to step back and reassess 💛. The range was quiet (meaning price moved less than its usual daily distance), so we're watching for a spark of energy to confirm this upward lean before getting too excited.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 31,220 +0.48% Quiet range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed near its swing high (the highest point price recently touched before pulling back) after a quiet, steady session — and that kind of gentle grind higher with no big scary news on the calendar today keeps our bias leaning bullish (tilting upward) 💛. While price holds above 30,800, we can watch for the market to continue pushing toward new highs; a daily close below that level would tell us the buyers have lost control and we'd want to step back from any upward lean. The range was quiet (meaning NASDAQ moved less than its usual daily distance), so if momentum (the strength behind the move) starts building, that could be the spark that gets things moving with more energy.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 30,800
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,450 +0.77% Quiet range lower half of range
DAX had a decent close yesterday but is sitting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning price is closer to the bottom of where it's been trading than the top), so there's no clear directional pull just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push price back toward the upper part of the range — if that happens with momentum, a bullish lean (upward tilt) could start to form. For now, no clear bias is confirmed; a drop and close below 25,200 would suggest sellers are in control instead.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,200
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 85,560 -0.27% Normal range upper half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — yesterday's session was nearly flat (basically unchanged), and while price is holding in the upper half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the high than the low), there's no strong signal yet pointing clearly in either direction 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can push above recent highs with conviction, or whether price drifts back toward the 83,500 area — a firm close below that level would be the sign that the cautious upward tilt we're sensing is off the table. For now, no clear bias has formed, so we stay patient and wait for the market to show its hand before leaning strongly one way or the other.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 83,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2698 -0.5% Quiet range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly right now — no big news events today and price closed near the lower half of its recent range (meaning sellers had a slight edge into the close), but there's no clear signal yet pointing firmly in either direction. We'd want to see ETH either reclaim and hold above 2,750 to start leaning bullish (upward), or break and close below the 2,650 area to lean bearish (downward) with more confidence. For now, it's a wait-and-watch moment — patience is a trading skill too 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,750

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
