Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.125 +0.04% Expanded range near swing LOW
Right now, Euro-Dollar doesn't have a clear lean yet — yesterday's session closed almost flat (barely any movement up or down) and price is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been bouncing around), so we're watching rather than assuming a direction. 💛 The big event to keep your eye on today is the FOMC Meeting Minutes at 5pm PST — that's the published notes from the US Federal Reserve's last interest-rate meeting, which can cause sharp, sudden moves in any pair involving the US Dollar. Until those minutes land and we see how price reacts, we'd want to see a clear hold above 1.1320 before any upward lean forms, because a close below that level would open the door to more downside pressure (price wanting to slide lower).
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1320
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.324 +0.33% Quiet range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting near the bottom of its recent range after a quiet session, so there's no clear lean just yet — we're watching to see whether buyers step in here or price keeps drifting lower. The big moment today is the FOMC Meeting Minutes (the Federal Reserve's detailed notes from their last interest-rate discussion) dropping at 5 pm PST, which could shake the dollar strongly in either direction and set the real tone. Until we see how price reacts to that release, there's no strong reason to favour bulls or bears — a clean hold above 1.3300 would be the first sign bulls are defending this area, while a close beneath it would open the door for further softness. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3300
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.7 -0.12% Quiet range upper half of range
USD/JPY is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see zone right now — we don't have a strong lean in either direction just yet, and that's totally okay 💛. The pair closed nearly flat (almost no change from the day before) and has been moving quietly (smaller moves than usual), so the market isn't committing either. What we're watching closely is the FOMC Meeting Minutes (the Fed's notes from their last interest-rate discussion) at 5:00pm PST — how price reacts to that release could be the nudge that finally shows us which way the pair wants to go; a hold above 156.80 keeps any potential upside idea alive, but a close below that level would tell us the buyers aren't in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6952 +0.33% Normal range lower half of range
The Aussie-dollar (AUDUSD) is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — she closed slightly higher last session but landed in the lower half of her daily range (meaning price drifted back down toward the bottom of the day's move before the close), so there's no strong signal pulling us in one direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above 0.6920 and push back through the upper half of recent range before leaning bullish (upward-tilting); a close below 0.6920 would tell us the bears (sellers) may be taking control instead. For now, patience is your friend — wait for the market to show her hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6920
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.425 +0.24% Normal range near swing HIGH
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed yesterday with a small gain and is sitting near the top of its recent swing high (the highest point price reached before pulling back), which gives us a moderate bullish lean — meaning we're tilting upward 💛. Bias stays constructive (leaning in favor of more upside) while price holds above 1.4180; a close beneath that level would tell us the buyers have lost control and we'd step back and reassess. With no high-impact news events on the calendar today, price action itself is our guide, so watch how she handles this swing high — if she holds and pushes through, that's the bulls staying in charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4180
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.9 +0.23% Quiet range mid-range
The pound-yen is sitting in the middle of its recent range (the area between its recent high and low prices) after a modest gain last session, and right now there's no clear push in either direction to act on just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can hold price above 208.50 — if they do, a gentle upside lean could start to build, but without a stronger move or a fresh catalyst (a news event or data release that shakes the pair), this really is a wait-and-see moment. If price slips and closes below 207.50, that mild positive tone fades and we'd reassess from a neutral footing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 207.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4157 -0.13% Quiet range lower half of range
Gold closed essentially flat with a tiny dip of -0.13%, sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price spent most of the session closer to the day's lows than its highs) — so there's no clear directional bias forming just yet 💛. The session was quiet, meaning Gold moved less than her typical daily distance, which tells us she hasn't committed to a direction. With FOMC Meeting Minutes (the notes from the Federal Reserve's last interest-rate discussion, which can move Gold sharply) dropping at 5:00pm PST, we want to wait and see how price reacts before leaning either way — a strong push and hold above recent highs would be needed to build a bullish case (leaning upward), while a decisive close below current lows opens the door for further softness.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,280
Silver no clear bias
Close: 60.87 +1.49% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver had a decent green close last session, but the picture isn't clear enough yet to call a direction with confidence — we're sitting near the swing low (the last little valley price bounced from), which could mean support is holding, but it could also mean the low hasn't finished forming. No big news events today, so we're in watch-and-wait mode; if Silver can hold above 59.80 and start building higher closes, that's when a clearer bullish bias (leaning upward) might start to take shape. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 59.80
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7774 +0.66% Normal range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed near the top of its session range (meaning price finished the day close to its highest point), and that +0.66% gain gives us a mild bullish lean (a gentle tilt upward) heading into today's session. 💛 While price holds above recent structure, the path of least resistance (the direction things are most naturally flowing) looks higher — but if we see a daily close below 5,570, that lean flips and we'd want to reassess the whole picture. With no high-impact news events today, any continuation would need to come from steady buying pressure rather than a catalyst, so we watch how price behaves at these highs before getting too excited.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 31,080 +0.87% Normal range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed up nearly 1% yesterday and is sitting near the top of its recent swing high (the highest point price has reached before pulling back), which tells us buyers have been in control 💛. Our bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward) while price holds above 30,700 — a daily close below that level would flip the picture and we'd step back and reassess. With no major news events today, watch to see if buyers can push through the swing high cleanly; if price stalls and wobbles here, that's a signal to wait for a fresh setup rather than chasing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 30,700
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,250 +0.09% Quiet range mid-range
DAX closed almost exactly flat last session (+0.09%), sitting in the middle of its recent price range (not near the top or bottom, so neither side has a clear advantage right now), and it moved less than its typical daily distance — a quiet, non-committal day 💛. With no major news events scheduled today and price just hanging in the middle, there's no clear tilt to lean on yet — we'd want to see DAX either push up and hold above the recent highs, or slip and close below 25,100, before a directional lean (a reason to favour one side) starts to form. Until one of those things happens, sitting on your hands and waiting for the market to show its hand is a completely valid approach.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,100
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 85,790 -0.8% Normal range upper half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — yesterday's session closed slightly lower and we don't have a clear directional signal just yet 💛. We'd want to see price either hold and push convincingly above recent highs, or lose key support around the 85,000 area, before a real lean forms. For now, patience is your best tool — let the market show its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 87,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2711 -0.57% Normal range upper half of range
ETH is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — yesterday closed slightly lower and there's no clear push from either buyers or sellers yet, so we don't have a strong lean in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price either hold above recent support (a nearby floor where buyers have stepped in before) and push toward 2,780, or break lower with conviction, before committing to a directional idea. For now, this is a watch-and-wait moment — no clear bias has formed yet.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 2,780

🎯 TFW Recommendation
FOMC Minutes are published 3 weeks after the meeting — they can revive USD volatility if the language reveals surprises about future rate decisions. Less dramatic than the live announcement but worth keeping an eye on. TFW tip: stay cautious on USD pairs in the 15 minutes around release. Think of it as the meeting notes everyone tries to read between the lines 💛
TOMORROW

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Bank of England Rate Decision — a high-impact event for the pound. GBP pairs (especially GBPUSD and GBPJPY) can see fast, sharp moves. TFW teaching: avoid GBP pairs 15 minutes before and 20 minutes after the decision. Wait for the initial spike to settle and a clear candle to form before looking for entries. The BoE loves to surprise — give the pound a moment to catch its breath before joining in 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
