Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 1.125 -0.68% Normal range lower half of range
Euro-dollar slipped -0.68% last session and closed in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price settled closer to the day's lows than its highs), which gives us a mild bearish lean (tilting downward) heading into today. Bias stays cautious while price holds beneath 1.1310 — that's the level where this downward tilt would be wrong and we'd need to reassess. If sellers keep pressure on, watch for the area around 1.1200 to come into focus as the next zone price might want to test 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1310
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.32 -0.49% Normal range lower half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) doesn't have a clear bias just yet — yesterday's session closed slightly lower and price is sitting in the lower half of its daily range, but there's nothing decisive enough to lean strongly in either direction 💛. We're watching to see whether price can reclaim 1.3250 — a push back above that level would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in; a continued close below keeps the door open for more softness. No big news events are touching this pair today, so let the price action (what the chart is actually doing) guide you before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3250
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.9 +0.23% Normal range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — she nudged up slightly last session but nothing dramatic, and with BOJ Governor Ueda speaking today (the Bank of Japan's top official, whose words can move yen pairs sharply), we don't have a clear lean yet either way. 💛 What we're watching for is how price reacts around that speech — a strong push and hold above recent highs could open the door for bulls (buyers) to take over, while a drop back below 157.20 would tell us the upside idea is off the table. For now, no clear bias has formed, so we're in wait-and-see mode rather than leaning in a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 157.20
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6929 -0.24% Normal range near swing LOW
The Aussie-dollar is sitting near the bottom of yesterday's range (the low end of where price moved) after a quiet down-close, but there's no strong directional story forming just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in here at this swing low (the little floor price has bounced from before) or whether sellers keep the pressure on — a hold and recovery above 0.6945 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are waking up, while a clean close below 0.6900 would open the door for more downside. For now, no clear bias — let price show its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6965
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.422 -0.11% Normal range near swing HIGH
USDCAD is giving us a mixed picture right now — price closed near the top of yesterday's range (the highest point price reached before pulling back), but the tiny -0.11% move tells us neither buyers nor sellers are really in charge yet 💛. We're watching to see if price can hold above 1.4180 and push through the recent swing high (that ceiling price keeps bumping into) before leaning in any direction. No clear bias just yet — we'd want to see a strong close above current highs or a break below 1.4180 to get excited about a trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4180
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.4 -0.27% Normal range mid-range
The pound-yen is sitting in the middle of yesterday's range (the full distance price traveled from high to low) with no strong pull in either direction just yet 💛. BOJ Governor Ueda speaks today at 5pm PST — that's the head of Japan's central bank — and what he says could move the yen sharply, so we want to wait and see before committing to a direction. Watch for a clear break and hold above 209.20 or a decisive push lower to give us something more concrete to work with.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 209.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4162 -0.95% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold slipped about 1% last session and closed near the swing low (the most recent little valley where price bounced before), so right now there's no clear bias yet — we're in a watching-and-waiting mode rather than leaning in either direction. 💛 To start tilting bullish (upward-leaning), we'd want to see price defend this low and push back above recent structure (the price levels that have acted as a ceiling or floor); a clean close below here, though, would open the door to more softness. No major news events are touching Gold today, so price action itself — how she trades around this low — will be our guide.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,230
Silver no clear bias
Close: 59.98 -1.23% Normal range near swing LOW
Silver is sitting right near the bottom of yesterday's range (the lowest point price reached before closing) after a quiet session with no major news on the calendar today, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 We'd want to see Silver either hold this swing low (the little floor where buyers have stepped in before) and reclaim some ground, or break beneath it decisively, before leaning one way or the other. For now we're watching rather than committing — a strong bounce back above 30.80 would be our first sign buyers are showing up, while a clean close below 29.70 would open the door to further softness.
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7723 +0.73% Normal range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed near the top of its range (the highest point it reached during the session) with a healthy gain last session, which tells us buyers are still showing up with confidence 💛. While price holds above the 5,580 area, our bias leans bullish (meaning we're tilting upward) and we'd be watching for the index to continue building on those gains. A daily close below 5,580 would flip that picture and signal the bulls may have lost control for now.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 30,810 +1% Normal range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed up +1.00% yesterday and is sitting near the top of its recent swing high (the highest point price has reached before pulling back), which tells us buyers are showing up with some conviction 💛. Our bias leans bullish (tilting upward) while price holds above 30,400 — that's the level where the lean would no longer make sense and we'd want to step back and reassess. With no big news events scheduled today, the path of least resistance (the direction that takes the least effort) looks like it favours the upside, but always watch for a rejection (a sharp turn away) from these highs before assuming the move continues.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 30,400
DAX moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 25,230 +1.17% Normal range lower half of range
DAX closed up +1.17% yesterday with solid momentum (price moving with purpose in one direction), and while she settled in the lower half of her daily range — meaning sellers pushed back a little into the close — the overall session was constructive 💛. Our bias (the direction we're leaning) stays moderately bullish (upward-tilting) while price holds above 24,950; a daily close beneath that level would tell us the buyers have lost control and we'd need to step back and reassess. No high-impact news events are scheduled today, so watch how she opens and whether buyers show up early to defend the overnight levels.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 24,950
BTCUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 86,480 +2.02% Normal range near swing HIGH
Bitcoin closed the last session up over 2% and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the high end of where price has been bouncing back and forth), which tells us buyers are showing up with some confidence 💛. Our bias leans bullish (tilting upward) while price holds above the 84,200 area — a daily close below that level would cancel this lean and suggest sellers have taken back control. No big scheduled news events are touching Bitcoin today, so watch how price reacts at this swing high (the recent peak buyers have been struggling to push past) — if it holds and bounces, that's the kind of confirmation we'd love to see.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 84,200
ETHUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 2727 +1.46% Quiet range upper half of range
ETH closed the session near the top of its range (the space between the day's high and low price), and that +1.46% push higher gives us a moderate bullish bias (a lean toward more upside) while price holds above the 2,620 area 💛. The session was quiet — meaning ETH moved less than her typical daily distance — so we're watching for a pickup in momentum (stronger, more decisive moves) to confirm buyers are still in control. If ETH closes a full candle (a completed price bar) below 2,620, this lean flips neutral and we reassess from scratch.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 2,620

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Bank of Japan Rate Decision or Statement — JPY pairs can move violently on BoJ surprises (the yen has had several huge unexpected moves in recent years). TFW guidance: be extra cautious on any JPY pairs around BoJ events — the moves can be very fast and spreads widen. Wait for clarity before trading. The BoJ is full of surprises lately — treat JPY pairs like a live wire on BoJ day 💛

🎯 TFW Recommendation
FOMC Minutes are published 3 weeks after the meeting — they can revive USD volatility if the language reveals surprises about future rate decisions. Less dramatic than the live announcement but worth keeping an eye on. TFW tip: stay cautious on USD pairs in the 15 minutes around release. Think of it as the meeting notes everyone tries to read between the lines 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
