Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.133 -0.12% Expanded range near swing LOW
Euro-dollar is sitting in a wait-and-see spot right now — no big news events on the calendar today, and while price dipped slightly last session and is resting near the low of its recent range (the bottom edge of where price has been bouncing around), that alone isn't enough for us to call a clear direction yet. 💛 We'd want to see either a strong push back above 1.1380 to even consider an upward lean, or a confirmed close beneath current lows to open the door to further softness — for now, patience is your best trade. No clear bias has formed yet, so we're watching rather than leaning.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1380
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.326 +0.24% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting near the bottom of yesterday's range with no major news events on the calendar today, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above 1.3220 and start reclaiming the middle of the range before we'd feel confident calling any upward lean — right now it's very much a 'wait and watch' picture. Keep this one on your radar rather than your order book until the market shows its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3220
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.6 +0.1% Normal range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting quietly after a tiny gain last session, and right now there's no clear lean forming just yet — price is in the upper half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the session's high than its low), but the move wasn't big enough to shout a direction 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can hold above 156.80; a clean close beneath that level would tell us the mild upward tilt has faded and sellers may be stepping in. No big news events are scheduled to shake things up today, so patience is the name of the game — let price show its hand before committing to a side.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 0.6946 -0.62% Normal range near swing LOW
The Aussie-dollar slipped -0.62% last session and closed near the swing low (the lowest point of the recent price range, like the bottom of a bouncing ball), which keeps a mild bearish bias (a tilt toward further weakness) in play for now. While price stays below 0.6990, the path of least resistance (the easier direction for price to drift) favours another dip lower — a clean daily close back above that level would flip the picture and signal the bears have lost control 💛. There are no high-impact news events scheduled today, so watch how price reacts to nearby support (a floor where buyers have stepped in before) for your first clue on direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6990
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.424 +0.31% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed near the top of its recent range (the highest prices it's been trading between), and with no big news events today that could shake things up, the pair is showing a moderate bullish bias — meaning we're leaning upward 💛. While price holds above 1.4180, the path of least resistance (the easier direction to keep moving) stays toward further strength in the dollar side. A close back below 1.4180 would tell us that lean was wrong and we'd want to step back and reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4180
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 209 +0.35% Expanded range lower half of range
The pound-yen closed slightly higher last session, but with price sitting in the lower half of its range (meaning it ended closer to the day's lows than its highs), there's no clear signal yet pointing us firmly in one direction 💛. We'd want to see the pound-yen hold above 208.00 and push back toward the upper part of yesterday's range before any bullish lean (an upward tilt) starts to take shape — a clean close beneath 208.00 would tell us the sellers are in control instead. For now, we're in a 'wait and watch' mode, letting price show its hand before we commit to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 208.00
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4202 +0.37% Quiet range near swing LOW
Gold closed just a touch higher last session and is sitting near the bottom of its recent price range (the swing low — the last little valley price has been bouncing from), which gives a very faint, unconfirmed lean upward. That said, we don't have a clear directional signal yet 💛 — watch to see whether Gold holds this area and begins building higher lows (a pattern of each bounce starting from a slightly higher point than the last), because that would be the first sign a more meaningful upward move could develop. Price closing and staying below the recent swing low zone would tell us this lean is wrong and we'd step back to neutral.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,167
Silver no clear bias
Close: 60.72 +1.04% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver had a positive session yesterday, closing up just over 1%, but the overall picture right now is mixed — she's sitting near the low of her recent range (the bottom of the zone she's been trading back and forth in) and her movement was quieter than her typical daily distance, so we don't have a clear directional signal yet 💛. Watch for Silver to hold and push back above recent highs to build a bullish case (a reason to lean upward); a clean close below the 29.80 area would tell us sellers are in control and flip the outlook. No major news events are touching Silver today, so price action itself — how she opens and behaves in early trading — will be your best guide for which way she's leaning.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7666 +0.2% Normal range upper half of range
The S&P 500 closed just slightly higher last session with no major news events on the calendar today, so right now there's no clear directional bias — we're watching and waiting for the market to show its hand 💛. Price is sitting in the upper half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to its high than its low), which is a small positive sign, but not enough on its own to call a clear lean. We'd want to see a strong close above recent highs to lean bullish (upward), or a break and close below 5,600 would flip the picture and signal the bears (sellers) may be taking over.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 26,870 +0.04% Normal range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed virtually flat but held near its swing high (the highest recent price peak), which tells us buyers are still in control and not rushing to sell — that's a quietly constructive sign 💛. While price holds above 26,500, the bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward), and a continuation toward fresh highs is the scenario we're watching for. A daily close below 26,500 would flip that picture and suggest the move has stalled, so that's our invalidation — the price level where this lean would be wrong.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,500
DAX moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 24,940 -1.03% Normal range lower half of range
DAX closed with a meaningful drop yesterday — think of it like she finished the day sitting near the bottom of her daily price window, which suggests sellers had the upper hand going into the close 💛. While price stays below 25,100, our bias leans bearish (tilting downward), meaning we'd look for continued softness rather than a fresh push higher. That lean flips — meaning we'd need to rethink the picture — if DAX reclaims and closes back above 25,100.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,100
BTCUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 84,760 +0.32% Quiet range near swing HIGH
Bitcoin closed near the top of its recent range (the highest prices it's been trading at lately), and that quiet session — meaning price barely moved compared to its usual daily distance — held those gains without giving them back, which is a gentle sign of strength 💛. Our bias (the direction we're leaning) stays moderately bullish (upward-tilting) while Bitcoin holds above roughly 83,200 — a close below that level would tell us sellers have taken control and this outlook would need a rethink. No big news events are scheduled today, so watch for whether buyers continue to defend these highs or whether price starts to drift lower and loses that key floor.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 83,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2687 +0.72% Quiet range upper half of range
ETH is sitting quietly right now — no clear push in either direction just yet, so we're in watch-and-see mode rather than leaning one way. 💛 Price did close slightly higher last session and is holding in the upper half of its recent range (the zone between the day's high and low), which is a small positive sign, but we'd want to see a stronger move or more volume (buying and selling activity) before calling it a real upward lean. If price slips and closes below 2,620, that would tell us the buyers have lost control and we'd need to reassess the whole picture.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 2,620

Bank of Japan Rate Decision or Statement — JPY pairs can move violently on BoJ surprises (the yen has had several huge unexpected moves in recent years). TFW guidance: be extra cautious on any JPY pairs around BoJ events — the moves can be very fast and spreads widen. Wait for clarity before trading. The BoJ is full of surprises lately — treat JPY pairs like a live wire on BoJ day 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
