Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.133 -0.12% Expanded range near swing LOW
Euro-dollar is giving us a bit of a mixed picture right now — yesterday's session closed slightly lower and price is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest point of the area it's been trading in), so there's a very mild downward tilt, but nothing strong enough yet to call a clear direction 💛. We'd want to see price push back above 1.1380 before leaning bullish (upward-leaning), or a decisive move lower with follow-through before leaning bearish (downward-leaning) — right now we're in 'wait and watch' mode. No big news events are scheduled today for this pair, so keep an eye on how price behaves around these current levels for clues on where it wants to go next.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1380
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.326 +0.24% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) finished yesterday's session slightly higher, but the picture right now is genuinely mixed — she closed near the bottom of her daily range (meaning price ended the day closer to its lowest point than its highest), which keeps us in wait-and-see mode rather than leaning clearly in either direction 💛. No big news events are scheduled today, so we're watching to see whether buyers step in and push her away from this swing low (the recent little valley where price bounced before), or whether she slips lower — a clean close below 1.3220 would be the signal that the mild downside pressure is winning. Until we see a clearer push in one direction, there's no confident lean here, so we're simply watching and waiting for confirmation before committing to a view.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3220
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.6 +0.1% Normal range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting quietly near the top of yesterday's range (the full distance price traveled) with no big news events on the calendar today, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above 156.80 and start making higher little peaks (higher swing highs) before leaning confidently upward — a dip and close below that level would take the mild upward tilt off the table entirely. For now, this is a 'wait and watch' kind of day rather than a strong directional setup.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 0.6946 -0.62% Normal range near swing LOW
The Aussie-dollar closed near the bottom of yesterday's range (the low end of where price moved that session) after slipping 0.62%, which tells us sellers had the upper hand going into the close. 💛 Our moderate bearish bias (leaning downward) stays in place while price holds below 0.6980 — if we see a clean close back above that level, we'd want to step back and reassess. With no big news events lined up today, watch to see whether buyers step in to defend this swing low (the little valley price has bounced from before) or whether price continues to drift lower.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6980
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.424 +0.31% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed yesterday near the top of its recent price range (the zone where price has been bouncing around), and that quiet, steady push higher gives us a mild bullish bias — meaning we're leaning upward — while price holds above 1.4180 💛. The session was calm but purposeful, with the pair covering less ground than usual (a quiet range compared to its 14-day average movement), which can sometimes mean energy is building rather than fading. If price slips and closes below 1.4180, that lean flips to neutral and we'd want to wait and see before reading anything into the next move.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4180
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 209 +0.35% Expanded range lower half of range
The pound-yen had a small positive close last session, but with price sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the lows than the highs), there's no clear signal yet of which way she wants to go next 💛. We're watching to see if buyers step in and push her back above the mid-range area — that would be the first sign of strength worth paying attention to. For now, we wait for confirmation before leaning either direction, keeping 207.50 in mind as the level where even a cautious bullish thought would need to be set aside.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 207.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4202 +0.37% Quiet range near swing LOW
Gold closed the last session with a tiny gain and is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been bouncing around), so there's no strong pull in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in here at this swing low (the little valley price keeps returning to) — if they do and price starts climbing with momentum, that would be the first sign a bullish lean (tilting upward) could form. For now, keep this one on your watchlist rather than your trade list, and know that a clear close below 3,167 would tell us the selling pressure is too heavy to ignore.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,167
Silver no clear bias
Close: 60.72 +1.04% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver is sitting near the swing low (the most recent little valley where price bounced before) after a quiet session — no clear bias has formed just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold and push back above the session's midpoint before leaning bullish (upward); a clean close below 29.80 would tell us the bears (sellers) are in control and open the door to more softness. For now, we're watching and waiting for confirmation before committing to a direction.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7666 +0.2% Normal range upper half of range
The S&P 500 closed just a touch higher last session, sitting in the upper half of its daily range — but we don't have a clear enough tilt yet to call a directional bias with confidence 💛. We'd want to see a strong hold above recent structure (the price levels where buyers have stepped in before) before leaning bullish, or a decisive break lower to start watching the downside. For now, it's a 'wait and watch' moment — no clear edge yet, so patience is your best trade.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 30,500 +0.31% Normal range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed the last session with a small gain and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the highest prices it's been trading around lately), which gives us a mild bullish lean — meaning we're tilting upward — while price holds above 19,800 💛. If buyers keep showing up at dips (small pullbacks in price), there's room for this to push a little higher, but that lean flips if we see a daily close back below 19,800. No big news events are scheduled to shake things up today, so watch how price behaves near these highs — a rejection (price bouncing sharply back down from the top) could shift the picture quickly.
DAX moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 24,940 -1.03% Normal range lower half of range
DAX closed lower by just over 1% last session and settled in the bottom half of its daily range — meaning sellers were in control right up until the close — which gives us a moderate bearish lean (tilting downward) heading into today. Bias stays cautious while price holds below 25,100; if DAX were to push back above that level and close there, this downward lean would be off the table. With no big news events scheduled today, watch whether buyers step in to defend recent lows or whether price continues to drift lower 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,100
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 84,500 -0.42% Expanded range upper half of range
Bitcoin is in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's session closed slightly lower with no big economic news on the calendar today to push it strongly in either direction, so we don't have a clear lean just yet 💛. What we'd want to see for a bullish lean (leaning upward) to build is price holding above the 83,200 area and starting to reclaim yesterday's highs — if that happens, the expanded range (meaning Bitcoin moved more than its usual daily distance) could signal building momentum. A close back below 83,200 would tell us the bears (sellers) are gaining control and we'd reassess completely.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 83,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2668 -1.38% Expanded range upper half of range
ETH is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — yesterday it closed lower with a slightly larger-than-usual move (meaning price travelled more distance than its normal daily range), which hints at some selling pressure, but it's finishing in the upper half of that same range, which keeps things murky. There's no clear lean yet, so we're watching to see whether buyers step up and hold price above recent support (the floor price keeps bouncing from) or sellers push it back down toward lower levels. A clean hold and close above 2,720 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are gaining control — until then, no strong directional call from us. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 2,720

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
