Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.134 -0.28% Normal range lower half of range
EUR/USD is sitting in a no-clear-bias-yet zone heading into today's big US jobs data (Non-Farm Payrolls, Average Hourly Earnings, and Unemployment Rate — three reports that can move the dollar sharply in either direction, all dropping at 5:00pm PST). Until those numbers land and the dust settles, there's no reliable lean to act on — a strong US jobs report could push the dollar higher and weigh on this pair, while a weak report could flip the picture the other way. Watch how price responds to the data before committing to a direction; a sustained move and close above 1.1380 would shift things toward a cautiously bullish tilt (leaning upward), while continued pressure below today's range keeps the mild softness in play. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1380
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.323 -0.16% Normal range lower half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBP/USD) closed yesterday with a small loss and is sitting in the lower half of its daily range, which gives us a very slight downward tilt — but honestly, the picture isn't clear enough yet to call a real direction 💛. Three big U.S. jobs reports drop at 5 PM PST today — Non-Farm Payrolls, Unemployment Rate, and Average Hourly Earnings — and those numbers can shake this pair hard in either direction, so we want to wait and see what the data says before leaning anywhere. Watch how price reacts after that release: a strong push and close above 1.3280 could shift things in Cable's favor, while continued weakness below today's lows keeps the mild downward tilt in play.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3280
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.4 +0.03% Normal range upper half of range
The dollar-yen is sitting in the upper half of its recent range (meaning price closed closer to today's high than its low), but with the big three U.S. jobs reports — Average Hourly Earnings, Non-Farm Payrolls, and Unemployment Rate — all dropping at the same time this afternoon, we genuinely don't have a clear lean yet 💛. Those releases can move this pair sharply in either direction, so right now we're in 'wait and watch' mode rather than leaning one way. A strong jobs number could give the dollar a boost and push dollar-yen higher, while a soft report could send it lower — watch 156.80 as the level where any attempted upside story starts to look shaky.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6989 -0.39% Normal range near swing LOW
AUDUSD is sitting near the bottom of yesterday's range (the low end of where price moved all session) with no strong pull in either direction just yet — so right now we're in a watch-and-see mode rather than leaning clearly up or down. 💛 The big moment today is the US Jobs Report (Non-Farm Payrolls and Unemployment Rate) at 5:00pm PST, which can send this pair swinging hard in either direction depending on the numbers. Until that data drops and we see how price reacts, there's no clear bias to work with — a strong US jobs number could add pressure on the Aussie (AUD), while a weak report could give it some relief.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6430
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.419 +0.1% Normal range near swing HIGH
USDCAD is sitting in a balanced spot right now with no clear lean yet — the pair closed near the top of its recent range (the upper edge of where price has been moving lately), which could mean either a push higher or a pullback. The big question mark today is the US jobs report (Non-Farm Payrolls and Unemployment Rate at 5:00pm PST), which can send this pair moving sharply in either direction — so we want to wait for that data before forming any directional view. Watch to see how price responds after the report: a strong hold above 1.4190 on good US data could open a lean toward the upside, while a drop below 1.4140 would tell us the sellers (those pushing price lower) have taken control 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4140
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.2 -0.15% Normal range mid-range
The pound-yen is sitting in the middle of its recent range (the space between the high and low price it's been bouncing around in) with no strong push in either direction just yet 💛. Today's big wildcard is the US jobs report (Non-Farm Payrolls) dropping at 5pm PST — that kind of high-impact news can send ripples through currency pairs like this one and make any pre-event lean unreliable. For now, we're in a wait-and-see mode, watching to see whether price can hold above 208.20 or gets pushed lower by the news; a clear close above 209.50 would be the first sign of a real bullish tilt (a lean toward buyers taking control).
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 209.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4187 +0.17% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold closed nearly flat with a tiny +0.17% move — not enough of a push to call a clear direction yet 💛. She's sitting near the bottom of her recent range (the lower edge of where price has been bouncing around), which is worth watching, but with the big US jobs report (Non-Farm Payrolls — a major monthly snapshot of how many people got hired) dropping today, we want to wait and see how that shakes things out before leaning one way or the other. No clear bias yet — let the data land first, then look for price to show its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,300
Silver no clear bias
Close: 60.1 -0.94% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver slipped a little in the last session and is sitting near the swing low (the most recent little price floor where buyers stepped in before), so the picture is a bit mixed right now — we don't have a clear direction just yet. 💛 We'd want to see buyers actually hold and push price back up with conviction before leaning bullish, or a firm break below the current swing low to consider a bearish tilt (downward lean). For now, patience is your best tool — watch how Silver reacts at this level before committing to a trade idea.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7652 -0.25% Normal range mid-range
The S&P 500 closed with a tiny dip of -0.25% yesterday and is sitting right in the middle of its recent range (not near the top or bottom of recent price action), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. The big one to watch today is the Non-Farm Payrolls report (that's the monthly count of new jobs added in the US — one of the most market-moving events of the month) dropping at 5:00pm PST, which could jolt the index hard in either direction depending on the number. We're in a 'wait and see' spot — no clear bias (leaning one way) until that data lands and price shows us which way it wants to go.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 30,410 +0.23% Quiet range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed the last session with a tiny gain and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the high end of where price has been bouncing around lately), so there's no clear directional lean just yet 💛. What we're really watching today is the Non-Farm Payrolls report (a big monthly jobs number that can shake markets hard) dropping at 5pm PST — that single event could set the tone entirely, so we want to see how price reacts before forming any view. Until we get clarity from that data, we're in a wait-and-watch mode; a strong hold and close above 30,200 after the report would be the first thing we'd need to see before leaning in any direction with confidence.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 30,200
DAX moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 25,200 -0.79% Expanded range near swing LOW
DAX closed the last session down nearly 0.8% and finished near the swing low (the lowest point of the day's price action), which tells us sellers had the upper hand heading into today 💛. The range also expanded (price moved more than its typical daily distance), meaning this wasn't a quiet drift lower — there was real selling pressure behind it. Bias stays cautiously bearish (leaning downward) while price holds below 25,400; a clear reclaim of that level on a candle close would flip the picture and put this lean on pause.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,400
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 83,550 -0.08% Normal range upper half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's session was almost flat (barely any movement up or down), and while price is holding in the upper half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the high than the low), there's no strong signal yet pointing clearly in either direction. 💛 We'd want to see Bitcoin hold above roughly 81,500 and start pushing with energy before leaning bullish (upward-tilting); a close below that level would open the door for more downside pressure. For now, no clear bias — just watching for confirmation.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 81,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2684 +0.26% Normal range upper half of range
ETH is sitting quietly in the upper half of yesterday's range (the high-to-low distance price travelled) after a tiny green close, but there's no clear push in either direction just yet — so we're in watch-and-wait mode rather than leaning strongly one way. 💛 If price can hold above the 2,580 area (our line in the sand where this neutral read would be wrong) and buyers start showing up with bigger, bolder candles (the individual bars on your chart), that's when a proper upward lean could start to form. For now, no major news is expected today, so keep your chart open and let price show you its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,580

🎯 TFW Recommendation
High-impact economic event — this can cause sharp, fast moves on the relevant currency. TFW teaching: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 15–20 minutes around the release. Wait for the volatility to settle and a clear candle structure to form before looking for entries. When in doubt with high-impact news, patience is always the right trade 💛
TODAY

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Non-Farm Payrolls is one of the biggest news events of the month for USD pairs and indices. The TFW teaching: avoid trading the 5 minutes before and 15–20 minutes after the release. The spike can be massive and unpredictable — even a good trade idea can get stopped out before it runs. Wait for the first big candle to close, then look for your entry. NFP is the market's monthly mood swing — let it finish its drama before you walk in 💛
TODAY
USD — Unemployment Rate
⏰ PST 5:00pm · NY 8:00pm · London 1:00am · NZ 12:00pm  |  Forecast: 4.1%  |  Previous: 4.1%
EURUSD GBPUSD USDJPY AUDUSD USDCAD
🎯 TFW Recommendation
Employment/Jobs data — central banks watch employment closely, so a surprise can shift rate expectations. TFW tip: stay cautious on the relevant currency pairs 15 minutes around the release. Jobs data = the market checking in on the real economy. Surprises move things fast 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
