Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.145 -0.14% Expanded range near swing LOW
EUR/USD closed near the bottom of its session range (meaning price settled close to where sellers were strongest), and the day's movement was wider than usual — so there was some real energy behind that push lower. That said, with no major news events scheduled today, we don't yet have a clear picture of which way she wants to go next, so we're watching patiently for confirmation rather than jumping to a directional call 💛. A recovery and hold back above 1.1480 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in; until then, we stay cautious and let price show us her hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1480
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.334 -0.21% Expanded range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) had a quiet dip of -0.21% last session and closed near the bottom of its daily range, so there's a very mild pull toward the downside — but honestly the picture isn't clear enough yet to call a real direction. 💛 What we're watching most today is BOE Governor Bailey speaking at 5pm PST — his words can move the pound sharply in either direction, so we want to see how price reacts around that event before forming a lean. No strong bias yet; a push and hold back above 1.3380 (last session's upper area) would be the first sign bulls are stepping back in, while continued weakness below today's open keeps the mild bearish tilt alive.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3380
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.5 +0.06% Quiet range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting quietly with no clear direction just yet — yesterday's session barely moved (only +0.06%), and we don't have any major news events today to shake things up. Price is resting in the upper half of its recent range (the band between recent highs and lows), which is a gentle hint of steadiness, but we'd want to see a more decisive push before leaning one way. Watch for whether price can hold above 156.80 — a daily close below that level would tell us the mild strength has faded and we'd need to reassess. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7112 -0.1% Expanded range near swing LOW
The Aussie-dollar is sitting right at the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been touching lately) after a quiet little dip last session, so right now there's no clear push in either direction that we can lean on with confidence 💛. We'd want to see either a strong bounce and close back up through recent highs to consider a bullish lean (price wanting to go higher), or a confirmed break and hold below current lows to start thinking about downside — until one of those happens, this pair is in 'wait and watch' mode. Bias stays cautious while price lingers near these lows, but no clean directional story forms unless price breaks below 0.6460.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6460
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.407 +0.23% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed the last session near its swing high (the top of its recent price range) with a small gain, and the pair is sitting in a quiet range (moving less than its typical daily distance) — which can sometimes mean a bigger move is building 💛. Our bias leans gently bullish (favouring the upside) while price holds above 1.4020; a close back below that level would tell us the buyers have lost control and we'd want to step back and reassess. There are no high-impact news events for this pair today, so watch for price action (how candles are forming) near this swing high to confirm whether buyers are truly in charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4020
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 210.1 -0.14% Quiet range lower half of range
The pound-yen is giving us a mixed picture right now — she closed just slightly lower (-0.14%) and is sitting in the lower half of her recent range (the space between her recent high and low prices), but neither side has really taken control yet. 💛 We're also watching for BOE Governor Bailey's speech at 5pm PST, which could shake the pound (the GBP side of this pair) in either direction — so no clear lean has formed until we hear what he says. Watch to see if price can push back above 211.20 (which would suggest buyers are stepping in), or if she breaks lower and stays there — that's what would give us a clearer direction to work with.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 211.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4318 -1.32% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold had a tough session yesterday, slipping -1.32% and closing near the low of its recent range (the bottom edge of where price has been moving back and forth) — but with no major news events today and a normal-sized day behind us, there's no clear signal yet pointing strongly in either direction 💛. We're watching to see whether Gold can hold this swing low area (the little price floor where buyers have stepped in before) and push back up, or whether sellers keep pressing — a recovery back above the 3,370 area would be the first hint that buyers are returning. Until we see that confirmation, it's a wait-and-watch moment rather than a lean in either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,370
Silver no clear bias
Close: 64.38 -2.35% Normal range near swing LOW
Silver had a tough session yesterday, closing down over 2% and sitting near the low of its recent range (the bottom edge of where price has been bouncing around) — but there's no clear story yet pointing strongly in either direction 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend this area, or whether price slips further and confirms a more bearish (downward-leaning) move. Until Silver shows us a clear reaction — either a strong bounce or a break lower — there's no confident lean to take, so patience is the trade right now.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7706 -0.76% Normal range upper half of range
The S&P 500 slipped -0.76% last session but closed in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price recovered some ground before the close), so we don't have a clear directional tilt just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step back in and push price higher, or whether sellers take control and press below recent support — that confirmation is what would give us a real lean. For now, no strong bias either way; patience here is a strategy in itself.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 5,780
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 30,470 -0.04% Normal range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed almost flat — barely a whisker of movement — and there's no high-impact news on the calendar today to shake things up, so right now there's no clear bias forming in either direction. 💛 We're watching to see whether price can hold near the top of its recent range (the upper edge of where it's been trading lately) and push higher, or whether sellers step in and drag it back toward the 30,200 area. Until we see a decisive move with strong follow-through (price closing firmly in one direction with momentum behind it), it's perfectly fine to sit on your hands and wait for the picture to clear.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 30,200
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,410 -0.64% Normal range near swing LOW
DAX closed the last session near its swing low (the lowest point price recently bounced from), and we don't yet have a clear signal of whether buyers are stepping in to defend that area or if sellers want to push further — so right now there's no strong lean in either direction 💛. We're watching closely: if price can reclaim and hold above 25,580 with confidence, that's the first sign bulls (buyers) are taking back control; until then, we want to see how DAX behaves around this low before committing to a direction. Stay patient and let the market show its hand rather than guessing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,580
BTCUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 84,380 -2.08% Expanded range upper half of range
Bitcoin closed the last session down over 2% with an expanded range (she moved more than her typical daily distance), which tells us sellers were in control and pushing hard — so our lean here is cautiously bearish (tilting downward) while price stays below 86,200. 💛 If Bitcoin holds under that level, we'd watch for continued softness and any nearby support zones (price floors where buyers have stepped in before) to be tested. A daily close back above 86,200 would flip this lean and signal the bears may be losing their grip.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 86,200
ETHUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 2685 -2.47% Expanded range upper half of range
Ethereum (ETH/USD) closed the last session down nearly 2.5% and stretched further than its usual daily distance (what we call an expanded range — meaning price moved more aggressively than normal), which tells us sellers were genuinely in control, not just drifting. While ETH stays below the 2,780 area, the moderate bearish bias (leaning downward) stays intact, with the first zone to watch on the downside sitting closer to the 2,580–2,600 region. A daily close back above 2,780 would flip this picture and we'd want to reassess the whole outlook fresh. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 2,780

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Bank of England Rate Decision — a high-impact event for the pound. GBP pairs (especially GBPUSD and GBPJPY) can see fast, sharp moves. TFW teaching: avoid GBP pairs 15 minutes before and 20 minutes after the decision. Wait for the initial spike to settle and a clear candle to form before looking for entries. The BoE loves to surprise — give the pound a moment to catch its breath before joining in 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
