Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.146 -0.13% Normal range lower half of range
EUR/USD is in a no-clear-direction zone right now — yesterday's session closed almost flat with only a tiny dip, and price is sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it spent more time near the session lows than the highs), which gives us a very mild lean lower but not enough to act on yet. Today's big event risk is actually Swiss franc (CHF) news — the SNB (Switzerland's central bank) is announcing its interest rate decision — and while that doesn't directly involve the euro or dollar, big Swiss franc moves can ripple through nearby currency pairs and create unexpected volatility (sudden sharp moves), so we want to be patient. Watch for a clear close above 1.1500 to signal any bullish strength (upward momentum) is returning; until then, we're in 'wait and see' mode rather than leaning in either direction. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1500
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.337 -0.13% Normal range lower half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting in no-clear-bias territory right now — yesterday's session closed nearly flat with only a tiny dip, and price is resting in the lower half of its daily range, so neither the bulls nor the bears have made a convincing case yet. 💛 There are no high-impact UK or US events today, but keep an eye on the Swiss central bank announcements this afternoon, as surprise moves in the Swiss franc can ripple through other major pairs and stir up some unexpected volatility. We'd want to see Cable push back above 1.3420 (the upper area of recent resistance, or the price ceiling she's been struggling to break through) before leaning bullish, or a clear break and close below today's low to consider a bearish lean — until then, we're simply watching and waiting for the market to show her hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3420
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.4 +0.21% Quiet range upper half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a quiet, no-clear-direction zone right now — yesterday's session barely moved and there's no strong signal pulling us one way or the other yet. We're watching to see whether price can hold above 156.80 (a key support area, meaning a floor where buyers have shown up before); if it does and momentum builds, that would be the first hint of a bullish lean (a tilt toward yen weakening). For now, sit tight and wait for confirmation before committing to a direction. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 156.80
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7119 -0.04% Normal range lower half of range
Aussie-Dollar is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see spot right now — yesterday's session barely moved (just -0.04%, well within her normal daily range), and with no big news events on the calendar today, there's no strong push in either direction just yet. 💛 Price closed in the lower half of yesterday's range, which is a small nudge toward the bears (those leaning downward), but it's not enough on its own to call a clear lean — we'd want to see follow-through selling or a confirmed break of nearby support (a price floor the market has bounced from before) before committing to a direction. For now, we're simply watching and waiting for the market to show her hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6450
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.403 +0.28% Normal range near swing HIGH
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed the last session near the top of its range — meaning price finished close to where it was strongest that day — which is an encouraging sign for buyers. Our moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) holds while price stays above 1.3980; a close below that level would tell us the buyers have lost control and we'd step back from this lean. No high-impact news is scheduled for this pair today, so the price action itself is our best guide 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3980
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 210.4 +0.06% Quiet range lower half of range
The pound-yen is sitting quietly right now — no big news events today and last session barely moved, so there's no clear signal yet pointing us in one direction. Price is in the lower half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to the bottom of where it's been trading lately), so we're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend this area or whether it slips further. Until we see a stronger push in either direction, the healthiest thing to do is wait for confirmation rather than guess 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 209.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4376 -0.17% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold closed nearly flat (basically unchanged) last session with a normal range (she moved her typical daily distance, nothing extreme), so there's no clear bias forming just yet 💛. We're watching to see if buyers step in near this swing low (the last little valley price bounced from) — a strong push back above recent highs would be the first sign a bullish lean (an upward tilt) is starting to build. Until we see that confirmation, it's a wait-and-watch moment rather than a directional call.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,300
Silver no clear bias
Close: 65.93 +0.16% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver is sitting quietly today — no big news events on the calendar and price closed almost exactly flat last session, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in to defend this area or whether price drifts lower before we form a real opinion. For now, we're in 'wait and see' mode — a strong close back above recent highs would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are waking up.
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7765 +1.49% Normal range upper half of range
The S&P 500 closed near the top of yesterday's range (the high-to-low window price moved through) after a solid +1.49% session, which keeps a moderately bullish bias (a gentle lean upward) in play while price holds above the 5,620 area 💛. If we stay above that level, the path of least resistance (the direction that requires the least effort) continues to favor buyers looking for further strength. A daily close back below 5,620 would flip this outlook to neutral and signal the bulls may be losing control.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 30,480 +2.83% Expanded range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ had a strong session, closing up +2.83% with an expanded range (meaning she moved much more than her usual daily distance) and finished near the top of that range — that kind of momentum often signals buyers are in control 💛. While price holds above the 19,800 area, a moderately bullish bias (leaning upward) stays in play, and we'd be watching for any follow-through to confirm the move. A daily close below 19,800 would shift the picture and suggest this push may have run out of steam.
DAX moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 25,580 +1.07% Quiet range lower half of range
The DAX closed yesterday with a solid gain of over 1%, and with no major news events (red-folder reports that can shake markets hard) on the calendar today, the mood feels relatively calm and supportive 💛. While price is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (meaning it closed closer to the bottom of the day's movement than the top), the overall bias leans gently upward — bullish — as long as the DAX holds above the 25,200 area. If we see a daily close below 25,200, that would signal the buyers are losing control and the lean would need a fresh look.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,200
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 86,170 -0.5% Quiet range upper half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — no strong signal pulling us clearly in either direction yet 💛. Price closed just slightly lower last session and is moving quietly (less distance than its typical daily range), so we're in a wait-and-see mode rather than leaning hard one way. To start building a bullish case (a reason to think upward), we'd want to see price hold above 84,500 and start showing some energy — a clean drop below that level would tell us the current picture has shifted.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 84,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2753 -0.86% Quiet range upper half of range
ETH is giving us a bit of a mixed picture right now, so we're not calling a clear direction just yet 💛 — yesterday closed down slightly and the session was quiet (meaning ETH barely moved compared to her usual daily distance), so we want to see how she behaves before leaning one way. Watch for a strong push and close above 2,820 to start building a bullish (upward-leaning) case, or a slide under recent lows to open a more cautious view.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 2,820

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
