Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.154 -0.1% Quiet range near swing LOW
EUR/USD is sitting right at the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices she's traded in the last little while), but we don't have a clear lean just yet — the session was nearly flat with only a tiny -0.10% move, and today's calendar is quiet with no big news events to push her strongly in either direction. To form a real bearish tilt (a reason to expect lower prices), we'd want to see price close a candle below this swing low area convincingly; until that happens, this could just as easily be a spot where buyers step back in. Watch for how she responds here — a bounce and hold above 1.1540 keeps things neutral, while a decisive close below 1.1540 would be the first sign the bears (sellers) are taking control. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1580
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.347 -0.2% Normal range near swing LOW
Cable (our nickname for the British pound versus the US dollar) closed slightly lower last session and is sitting near the bottom of its recent swing range (the lower edge of the zone price has been moving between), so the picture is a little mixed right now — not quite enough evidence yet to call a clear direction. We're watching to see whether price holds and bounces from this area, or breaks down through it; a push back above 1.3520 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in with confidence. No high-impact news is scheduled today, so let price show you which way it wants to go before leaning in either direction. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3520
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 155.3 +0.57% Quiet range mid-range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a genuinely unclear spot right now — yesterday nudged a little higher but price is resting in the middle of its recent range (not pressing toward either the highs or lows), and movement has been quieter than usual. The big watch today is the Bank of Japan press conference at 5 pm PST, where the BOJ (Japan's central bank) could say something that moves this pair sharply in either direction, so we don't want to lean too hard before that news drops. Stay patient, watch how price reacts around 154.50 — a clean break and close below that level would signal the bulls (buyers) have lost control and we'd reassess the whole picture. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 154.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7126 -0.17% Quiet range near swing LOW
The Aussie-dollar (AUDUSD — how many US dollars one Australian dollar buys) closed quietly near the low end of its recent range (the bottom of the price window it's been moving in), which gives us a slightly mixed picture with no strong pull in either direction just yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether price can hold here and reclaim some ground, or whether another push lower confirms real selling pressure — a daily close back above 0.6450 or so would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping back in. No clear bias has formed yet, so we're in observation mode rather than leaning strongly one way or the other.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6430
USDCAD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.392 +0.17% Quiet range near swing HIGH
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) closed the last session near the top of its recent range — that means price is sitting close to where sellers have shown up before, but the small positive close suggests buyers are still nudging it higher. 💛 Our bias stays gently bullish (leaning upward) while price holds above 1.3870; a daily close beneath that level would tell us the move has lost steam and we'd step back and reassess. With no high-impact news events (calendar surprises that can jolt price sharply) scheduled for today, any drift higher could be slow and quiet rather than a big bold push.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3870
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 209.2 +0.36% Quiet range lower half of range
The pound-yen is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (the full high-to-low distance price traveled) after a quiet, small session — so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. The big wildcard today is the BOJ Press Conference (that's the Bank of Japan speaking publicly about interest rate policy, which moves the yen a lot), and until we hear what they say, any lean we form could flip quickly. We're in a wait-and-watch mode — if price holds above 208.20 after the press conference, a mild upward tilt could start to take shape; a close below that level would open the door to further softness.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 208.20
Gold moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 4388 +1.26% Normal range lower half of range
Gold closed with a solid +1.26% gain last session — that's a meaningful push higher — and while she settled in the lower half of her daily range (meaning price closed closer to the day's lows than the highs), the overall momentum still leans bullish (tilting upward) 💛. Our bias stays moderately bullish while Gold holds above the 3,300 area; a daily close beneath that level would tell us the buyers have stepped back and we'd want to reassess the whole picture. No big news events are scheduled to shake things up today, so keep an eye on whether price can climb back toward the upper portion of its range as a first sign of strength.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,300
Silver moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 64.29 +1.66% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver closed the last session with a solid +1.66% gain (meaning price moved up nicely and finished the day higher), which gives us a moderate bullish lean — leaning upward — heading into today 💛. The bias (our directional tilt) stays constructive while price holds above the 32.80 area; a clear close beneath that level would tell us the upward momentum has faded and we'd want to step back and reassess. With the range quiet (meaning Silver moved less than her typical daily distance last session) and price sitting in the lower half of that range, there's room for her to breathe higher — but as always, we watch and wait for the market to confirm rather than assume.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7552 -0.45% Expanded range mid-range
The S&P 500 doesn't have a clear directional bias (a strong reason to lean one way or the other) just yet — yesterday's small dip and the mid-range close leave us in a bit of a wait-and-see zone. 💛 We'd want to see price either hold and push back above recent highs to build a case for the bulls (buyers), or break lower with follow-through before committing to a bearish (downward) lean. For now, we're watching rather than leaning — no clear bias until the market shows its hand.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 28,950 +0.03% Expanded range upper half of range
NASDAQ closed near the top of yesterday's range (the full distance price traveled that session) with an expanded range — meaning she moved more than her usual daily distance — which is a gentle sign that buyers are showing up with some energy 💛. While price holds above 28,700, our bias leans bullish (leaning upward), with room to press higher toward recent highs. A daily close back below 28,700 would flip that picture and tell us the strength was a head-fake, so that's our line in the sand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 28,700
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,540 +0.53% Normal range lower half of range
DAX closed slightly higher yesterday but finished in the lower half of the day's range (meaning price drifted back down from its highs before the session ended), so there's no strong signal to lean on just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can push price back above yesterday's close at 25,540 — if that level holds as support (a floor price keeps bouncing from), a clearer upward lean could start to form. For now, no directional bias is confirmed, so patience and waiting for a more obvious setup is the move.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,540
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 76,150 +0.71% Quiet range lower half of range
Bitcoin is sitting quietly right now — no big news on the calendar today and price is hovering in the lower half of its recent range (the band between the session's high and low), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see BTC climb back above the middle of its range and hold there before leaning bullish (upward-tilting), and a clean close below 74,800 would tell us sellers are firmly in charge. For now, this is a watch-and-wait moment — patience is a skill too!
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 74,800
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2416 +0.71% Quiet range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly right now — no big economic news on the calendar today and price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (the zone between the session's high and low), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see ETH climb back toward the upper half of the range and hold there before leaning bullish (upward-tilting); a drop and close below 2,350 would tell us sellers are taking control and we'd reassess the whole picture.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 2,350

🎯 TFW Recommendation
Bank of Japan Rate Decision or Statement — JPY pairs can move violently on BoJ surprises (the yen has had several huge unexpected moves in recent years). TFW guidance: be extra cautious on any JPY pairs around BoJ events — the moves can be very fast and spreads widen. Wait for clarity before trading. The BoJ is full of surprises lately — treat JPY pairs like a live wire on BoJ day 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
