Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.155 -0.42% Expanded range near swing LOW
Honestly, today is one of those days where we sit on our hands and watch before forming any opinion — the Federal Funds Rate decision, the FOMC Statement (the Fed's official note on interest-rate policy), and the Press Conference all land at the same time today, and those events can whipsaw (snap price violently in both directions) any pair touching the US dollar. Euro-dollar closed near the bottom of yesterday's range after an expanded session (price moved more than its typical daily distance), which is worth noting, but with this much event risk (big scheduled news that can flip direction instantly) overhead, no lean forms until the dust settles — watch for how price reacts to the 1.1550 area after the announcement, because a clean hold above there could start to build a case for recovery, while a close below keeps sellers in control 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1550
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.353 +0.12% Normal range lower half of range
Cable (the British pound vs. the US dollar, nicknamed 'Cable') is sitting in a genuinely tricky spot today — we have both GBP CPI (the UK's inflation report, which measures how fast prices are rising) AND the US Fed rate decision dropping at the same time, meaning big moves could swing in either direction depending on the numbers. 💛 With price closing in the lower half of its daily range and two heavyweight news events pulling in potentially opposite directions, there's no clean lean to take right now — this is a 'wait and see' moment, not a 'pick a side' one. We'd want to see price hold and reclaim above 1.3500 before any upside bias (leaning bullish, or upward) makes sense, while a clear break and close below that level could open the door to further downside pressure.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3500
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 153.4 -0.69% Normal range lower half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — price slipped lower last session and is resting in the bottom half of its daily range (meaning it closed closer to the day's low than its high), which hints at mild selling pressure, but with the Fed interest-rate decision, their economic projections, and Jerome Powell's press conference all dropping at 5 PM PST today, the pair could swing hard in either direction depending on what the Fed signals. 💛 This is one of those moments where we wait for the news to 'show its hand' before forming any lean — a strong close above 154.20 after the announcement would be needed to suggest buyers are back in control, while continued pressure below that level keeps the cautious tone alive. Until then, this is a 'watch and wait' pair rather than a 'pick a direction' pair, so no clear bias yet.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 154.20
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7152 -0.06% Normal range mid-range
The Aussie (AUDUSD — how many US dollars one Australian dollar buys) is sitting in the middle of yesterday's range after a nearly flat session, so there's no clear tilt to lean on just yet. 💛 Tonight brings a wave of high-impact events — the FOMC statement and press conference (where the US Federal Reserve announces interest rate decisions and speaks to markets) plus NZD GDP (New Zealand's economic growth report, which can ripple into the Aussie as a close neighbour) — and that event risk means price could swing hard in either direction. We'd want to see how the dust settles after 5 PM PST before forming any bias; a clean hold and push above 0.7200 would open the door to a mild upside lean, while a decisive close below 0.7100 would shift our attention lower.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7200
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.387 +0.23% Normal range upper half of range
USD/CAD is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — yes, price edged up slightly last session and closed in the upper half of its range (meaning it finished closer to the day's high than its low), but with the FOMC Statement, Economic Projections, and Press Conference (that's the US Federal Reserve announcing their interest rate decision and outlook) all dropping at 5:00pm PST today, there's no clear directional tilt we can lean on just yet. We'd want to see how price reacts to that news before forming a bias — a strong hold above 1.3870 after the event could open the door for bulls (buyers), while a drop back below that level would tell us the move had no real follow-through. For now, this one is a wait-and-watch 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3870
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 207.5 -0.56% Quiet range near swing LOW
The pound-yen is sitting near a swing low (the last little valley where price bounced) after a quiet, below-average session, so there's no clear directional tilt to lean on just yet 💛. With the FOMC Statement, Economic Projections, and Press Conference all dropping at 5:00pm PST — events where the US Federal Reserve shares its interest-rate decisions and outlook — volatility (big, fast moves) could shake things up in either direction for this pair. Watch for a decisive close above 208.80 to hint at buyers stepping in, or a clean break and hold below today's swing low to suggest sellers may be taking control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 208.80
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4352 -1.29% Normal range near swing LOW
Gold is sitting in a genuinely tricky spot right now — we had a down session yesterday and price is resting near the swing low (the last little valley it bounced from before), but with the FOMC Statement and Press Conference (the US Federal Reserve's big interest-rate announcement and the Chair's live Q&A) dropping today, the market could swing hard in either direction. Until we see how price reacts to that news, there's no clear lean yet — what we'd want to watch for is whether Gold holds above recent support (the floor price has respected) or breaks below it with momentum, which would be the signal a more bearish (downward) lean is forming. 💛 Patience is a position today — let the news land first.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,370
Silver no clear bias
Close: 63.51 -1.61% Quiet range near swing LOW
Silver had a rough session yesterday, closing down over 1.6% and sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the low end of where price has been bouncing around) — but we don't yet have a clear directional lean to act on. Today is packed with high-impact USD events including the FOMC Statement and Press Conference (where the Federal Reserve announces interest rate decisions and speaks to markets), which could send Silver moving sharply in either direction, so we're watching for confirmation before committing to a bias. Stay patient, let the dust settle after 5:00pm PST, and see where price closes before forming a lean 💛.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7620 -0.48% Normal range near swing LOW
The S&P 500 is sitting in a genuinely tricky spot right now — we have a mild downward nudge from yesterday's close, but today is loaded with high-impact FOMC events (the Federal Reserve's big interest rate decision and press conference) that could swing price hard in either direction, so there's no clear lean to act on just yet 💛. We're watching to see how price reacts once the dust settles from that 5:00pm PST Fed release — a strong hold and push back above recent highs could open the door for buyers to step in, while a decisive close below current swing lows (the little valley price has been bouncing from) would suggest sellers are gaining control. Until the FOMC smoke clears, the healthiest thing to do is wait for confirmation rather than guess which way the market wants to go.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 5,720
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,130 -0.82% Normal range near swing LOW
NASDAQ is sitting in a no-clear-direction zone right now — yes, price closed lower last session and is resting near the swing low (the last little valley where buyers stepped in before), but today brings a wall of high-impact news with the FOMC Statement and Press Conference (the US Federal Reserve announcing their interest rate decision and answering questions live), which can flip the market hard in either direction. 💛 Until that dust settles around 5 PM PST, we're in watch-and-wait mode — a strong hold and bounce from the current swing low area after the news could invite buyers back in, while a clean break and close beneath 19,450 would open the door to more downside pressure.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,440 -0.5% Normal range lower half of range
The DAX closed slightly lower and is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (the full distance price traveled from its highest to lowest point), which gives a faint lean toward further softness — but nothing clear enough to trade a direction yet 💛. With the FOMC Statement and Press Conference (the US Federal Reserve announcing their interest rate decision and outlook) hitting at 5:00pm PST, big waves could move through European markets in either direction, so we really want to wait and see how price reacts before forming a lean. Watch for whether the DAX can reclaim and hold above 25,600 — if it can, the cautious downside tilt softens; if it stays below and the Fed surprises to the hawkish side (meaning tighter-than-expected policy), that could add more pressure.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,600
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 78,160 +1.73% Expanded range near swing LOW
Bitcoin is in a bit of a mixed spot right now — she closed higher last session but ended near the bottom of her recent range (the low end of where price has been moving lately), so we don't have a clear signal just yet 💛. We'd want to see her hold above 76,800 and push back toward the middle of the range before leaning in any direction with confidence. For now, we're watching and waiting for a clearer sign rather than jumping to conclusions.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 76,800
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2514 +1.51% Expanded range near swing LOW
ETH is in a bit of a mixed spot right now — yesterday's session closed near the swing low (the last little valley where price found support) even with a positive day, so there's no clear direction to commit to just yet 💛. We'd want to see a strong reclaim of the 2,620 area before leaning bullish (upward), or a decisive close beneath current lows to confirm bearish (downward) pressure — right now, it's a watching-and-waiting moment rather than a trading one. No major news events are scheduled today, so let price show its hand before stepping in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 2,620

🎯 TFW Recommendation
CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

FOMC Statement and/or Rate Decision — this moves everything. Rate decisions are especially powerful. TFW guidance: go flat or stay out for 30 minutes around the announcement (1 hour for the full press conference if scheduled). The market often reverses 2–3 times in the first hour as traders digest the language. Let that volatility clear before looking for structure. GDP release — shows how healthy the economy is growing (or shrinking). A surprise beat or miss can move the currency. TFW tip: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 10–15 minutes around the release. GDP is a slow-burn indicator — it sets the tone more than it creates instant spikes. GDP is like a quarterly report card — markets care, but the reaction is usually measured 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
