Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.163 +0.06% Normal range lower half of range
EURUSD is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — price closed almost flat last session (+0.06%) and is resting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it finished closer to the day's lows than its highs), which gives us a very slight lean toward caution but nothing we can confidently act on yet 💛. The main scheduled news today is Canadian data, which doesn't directly move EURUSD, so we're watching to see whether buyers step in and push price back above 1.1680 — that would be the first sign of life for the bulls (the buyers). Until we see a clear push higher or a decisive break lower, this pair is really asking us to wait and watch rather than jump in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1680
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.355 +0.05% Normal range lower half of range
Cable (the British pound versus the US dollar) is sitting in the lower half of its daily range after barely nudging higher last session — that kind of mixed positioning makes it hard to lean clearly in either direction right now. 💛 The main event risk today is actually Canadian inflation data, which can ripple into USD pairs and shake things up unexpectedly, so we want to see how price reacts before committing to a direction. For a gentle bullish lean (favoring upward movement) to form, we'd want to see Cable hold and push back above 1.3550; a close back under 1.3500 would tell us the bears (sellers) are in control instead.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3500
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 153.6 +0.06% Normal range lower half of range
The dollar-yen is sitting quietly with barely any movement from yesterday — no real push in either direction yet, so we don't have a clear lean to work with right now 💛. Price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to the bottom of where it's been trading than the top), which is worth watching, but not a signal on its own. Today's big scheduled events are all Canadian data, so there's no direct fundamental fuel (news that typically moves a pair) pointing dollar-yen either way — we'd want to see a decisive move above 154.20 to start leaning upward, or a clean break lower to consider a downside bias.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 154.20
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7221 +0.01% Expanded range mid-range
AUD/USD is sitting in the middle of its range with barely any movement last session — that's a no-clear-bias-yet picture for now, so we're watching and waiting rather than leaning one way 💛. The range did expand (meaning price moved more than its typical daily distance), but mid-range with flat momentum doesn't give us a clean directional signal to trust. Watch for price to show a clear hold above recent highs or a break below recent lows — that confirmation would help a lean form; until then, patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6280
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.38 +0.2% Quiet range mid-range
USDCAD is sitting right in the middle of its recent range (the zone between its high and low for the session) with no strong push in either direction yet — so right now, we don't have a clear lean, and that's totally okay 💛. The big moment today is CAD CPI at 5:00pm PST — CPI (Consumer Price Index) measures how much prices are rising in Canada, and a hotter-than-expected number could strengthen the Canadian dollar (pushing this pair lower), while a softer reading could do the opposite. Rather than guessing ahead of the news, watch how price reacts after 5pm: a strong hold above 1.3800 could hint at upside, while a break and close below that level opens the door for sellers to step in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3850
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 208.1 +0.11% Quiet range lower half of range
The pound-yen is sitting quietly right now — last session barely moved (+0.11%), and price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning it closed closer to the day's lows than the highs), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend the 207.20 area (the level where our current thinking would be wrong); a meaningful close below there would open the door to more softness. No big news events are scheduled for this pair today, so for now we wait and watch for a clearer signal before leaning one way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 207.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4364 -1.17% Normal range lower half of range
Gold had a tough session yesterday, closing down over 1% and sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price settled closer to the day's lows than its highs) — but the overall picture isn't giving us a clear directional tilt just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers step back in to defend current levels, or whether price continues to drift lower; a strong push back above recent highs would be the signal we'd want to see before leaning bullish (upward). With no major Gold-specific data today, keep position sizes comfortable and wait for the market to show its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,330
Silver moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 64.28 -5.38% Quiet range lower half of range
Silver took a sharp hit last session — closing down over 5% (meaning she dropped significantly in a single day), and she's sitting in the lower half of her recent price range, which tells us sellers have the upper hand right now. Our bias leans bearish (tilting downward) while price holds below the 32.80 area; a recovery and close back above that level would signal the selling pressure may be easing and we'd need to reassess. No major Silver-specific news today, but stay alert — big moves in the broader metals complex can shift the mood quickly. 💛
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7592 -0.58% Quiet range lower half of range
The S&P 500 is giving us a mixed picture right now — yesterday's session closed in the lower half of its range (meaning price settled closer to the day's lows than its highs) with a modest pullback, but overall movement was quiet (smaller than the average daily distance we'd normally expect). No major U.S. data is hitting today, so we're watching for price to give us a clearer signal before leaning in either direction 💛. A sustained hold above 5,670 keeps the door open for buyers to step back in, while a clean close beneath that level would be the first sign that more downside could open up.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 26,080 -0.65% Normal range mid-range
NASDAQ is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's session closed slightly lower, but nothing dramatic happened, and price is resting right in the middle of its recent range (not near any obvious high or low). Today's red-folder news (the high-impact data releases that can shake markets) is Canadian CPI inflation data, which touches currency pairs more directly than U.S. tech indices, so we don't have a strong catalyst pointing us in either direction here. We'd want to see NASDAQ either hold and push back above 26,400 to start leaning bullish (upward-leaning), or a clear break and close below current structure to consider a bearish (downward-leaning) case — for now, we're watching patiently for confirmation before committing to a side. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,400
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,360 -0.84% Normal range lower half of range
DAX closed the last session a little lower and settled in the bottom half of its daily range (the distance between the day's high and low), so we don't have a clear directional signal yet 💛. We're watching to see whether price can reclaim 25,500 — a push back above that level would be the first hint that buyers are stepping back in, while continued weakness below keeps the door open for further softness. No red-folder news (big scheduled announcements that can shake markets) today, so price action itself will be our guide — let's wait for a clearer picture before leaning either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,500
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 77,270 +0.12% Quiet range near swing LOW
Bitcoin is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's been bouncing around), but there's no clear push in either direction just yet — we're in wait-and-see mode 💛. The session closed almost flat (+0.12%), and price movement has been quieter than usual (tighter than its normal daily distance), so we don't have enough confirmation to lean bullish or bearish with confidence right now. Watch to see if Bitcoin can hold above the current swing low (the last little floor buyers stepped in at) and reclaim higher ground — if it loses that footing and closes below, a deeper pullback could open up.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 79,500
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 2526 +0.45% Quiet range lower half of range
ETH is sitting quietly — no big news today and yesterday's tiny green candle (price closed just a hair above where it opened) isn't giving us a strong signal in either direction yet 💛. Price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (the space between the recent high and low), which keeps the picture a little murky rather than clearly bullish (upward-leaning) or bearish (downward-leaning). We're watching to see whether buyers step in and push ETH back toward the middle of the range, or whether sellers keep the pressure on — no clear bias yet, so patience is the play here.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 2,600

🎯 TFW Recommendation
CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

High-impact economic event — this can cause sharp, fast moves on the relevant currency. TFW teaching: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 15–20 minutes around the release. Wait for the volatility to settle and a clear candle structure to form before looking for entries. When in doubt with high-impact news, patience is always the right trade 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
