Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.167 +0.81% Normal range near swing HIGH
Euro-Dollar closed strong at 1.1670 — up 0.81% on the session — and is sitting near the top of its recent range (close to the highest prices it's traded lately), which tells us buyers were in control heading into today 💛. While price holds above 1.1580, our bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward), meaning we'd be watching for dips to find support rather than expecting a big reversal. A daily close below 1.1580 would flip that picture and signal the bulls (buyers) may have lost control, so that's the level we keep one eye on at all times.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1580
GBPUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1.36 +0.47% Normal range near swing HIGH
Cable (our nickname for the pound-dollar pair) closed the last session near the top of its range — meaning price finished close to the session's highest point — which is a sign buyers are in control right now 💛. While price holds above 1.3540, the bias stays bullish (leaning upward), and we'd be watching for any small dips to be bought rather than sold. A daily close back below 1.3540 would flip that picture and tell us the momentum has shifted, so that's the level we keep our eyes on.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3540
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 158.3 -0.8% Quiet range mid-range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — no big news events on the calendar today, and price closed mid-range (right in the middle of yesterday's high-to-low, not pushing strongly in either direction) after a soft session. We don't have a clear lean just yet; what we'd want to see is a decisive push and close below 157.50 to start thinking bearish (downward) thoughts, or a recovery back above 159.20 to flip our attention upward. For now, patience is your best tool 💛 — let price show its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 159.20
AUDUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 0.7125 +0.61% Quiet range upper half of range
The Aussie (AUDUSD — how many US dollars one Australian dollar buys) closed the last session with a tidy gain and settled in the upper half of its daily range (the space between the day's high and low), which tells us buyers stayed in control right through the close 💛. While price holds above 0.7080, our bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward), and a quiet day with no high-impact news scheduled gives that momentum room to breathe. A daily close back below 0.7080 would be our signal that the picture has shifted and we'd step back and reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7080
USDCAD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 1.381 -0.63% Normal range near swing LOW
USDCAD (that's how many Canadian dollars one US dollar buys) closed near the bottom of yesterday's range — the lowest point price reached before bouncing — after slipping 0.63%, which gives us a mild bearish lean (tilting downward) heading into today. As long as price stays below 1.3860, the bias (our directional lean) stays on the softer side for the US dollar here, and we'd watch for any further drift toward recent support levels (price floors where buyers have stepped in before). A clear close back above 1.3860 would flip the picture and tell us this pullback is over — so keep that level on your radar 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3860
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 215.2 -0.33% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen is sitting in the upper half of yesterday's range (the full distance price traveled), but that small dip of -0.33% on the close keeps the picture honestly mixed right now — no clear push in either direction yet 💛. With no big news events (red folder = high-impact scheduled announcements) on the calendar today, we're in a 'wait and watch' mode, looking for price to either hold above 215.20 and attract buyers, or slip beneath it to give us a clearer clue. Until one side steps up with conviction, there's no strong lean here — patience is a position too!
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 216.20
Gold moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 4516 +0.6% Quiet range near swing HIGH
Gold closed up +0.60% and is sitting near the top of its recent swing high (the highest point price reached before pulling back), which tells us buyers have been showing up with some conviction 💛. The session was quiet — meaning Gold moved less than its typical daily distance — so if momentum picks up from here, bias (our lean) stays moderately bullish (tilting upward) while price holds above 3,280. A clean daily close below that level would flip the picture and signal the bulls (buyers) may be stepping aside.
Silver moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 68.03 +3.49% Normal range near swing HIGH
Silver put in a strong session yesterday — up nearly 3.5% — and closed near the top of its daily range (the high end of where price moved that day), which tells us buyers were in control right through the close 💛. Our bias (overall lean) stays moderately bullish while price holds above the 32.20 area; if we see a daily close back below that level, the bullish case weakens and we'd step back to reassess. No big news events are scheduled for Silver today, so keep an eye on whether buyers can defend yesterday's gains — that follow-through would be the confirmation we'd want to see.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7641 -0.87% Normal range upper half of range
The S&P 500 closed a little lower last session and we don't have a clear directional tilt to lean on just yet — the picture is mixed enough that we're in watch-and-wait mode right now. 💛 What we'd want to see for a bearish lean (downward bias) to form is follow-through selling below recent support (the price floor where buyers have stepped in), while a reclaim and hold above 5,700 would flip things back toward the bulls. No clear-bias-yet means patience is the trade — we wait for the market to show her hand before committing.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,210 -0.72% Quiet range upper half of range
NASDAQ is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — no clear bias has formed yet, so we're in watch-and-wait mode 💛. Yesterday's session dipped modestly and the day was quieter than usual (price moved less than its typical daily distance), which doesn't give us a strong signal in either direction. We'd want to see a clear push and hold above 29,450 to start leaning bullish (upward), or a clean breakdown below current support to consider a bearish (downward) lean.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 29,450
DAX no clear bias
Close: 25,980 -0.41% Quiet range upper half of range
DAX is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's small dip (-0.41%) and a quiet session (price moved less than its typical daily distance) don't give us a clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether buyers step in to hold this upper portion of the range, or whether price starts slipping lower — a sustained move below the 25,900 area would be the first sign bears (sellers) are taking control. No high-impact news on the calendar today, so let price show its hand before committing to a lean.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,120
BTCUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 78,340 +7.26% Expanded range near swing HIGH
Bitcoin closed up over 7% last session — that's a big, powerful candle — and price is sitting near the top of its recent range, which tells us buyers (bulls) were firmly in control 💛. The range expanded (she moved much more than her typical daily distance), and with no major news events today, our bias leans bullish (tilting upward) while price holds above the 74,500 area. A clear daily close below that level would flip this picture and open the door for a pullback (a dip back lower), so that's the number we're watching.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 74,500
ETHUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 2515 +8.12% Expanded range upper half of range
Ethereum closed at 2,515 with a strong +8.12% session — that's a big, healthy push higher — and finished in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price held its gains rather than fading them), which is an encouraging sign 💛. The range expanded (she moved more than her typical daily distance), so we stay patient for any pullback to find support, but the moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) holds while price stays above the 2,300 area. A daily close back below 2,300 would be our signal that this strength has faded and we'd step aside and reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 2,300

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
