Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.158 -0.03% Expanded range near swing HIGH
Euro-dollar (EURUSD) is sitting near the top of yesterday's range with no major news events (high-impact data releases) on the calendar today, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether price can hold above 1.1580 — if it does and buyers step in, a gentle drift higher could develop; a close back below 1.1520 would tell us the recent strength has faded and we'd want to step back. For now, we're in a wait-and-see mode, letting the market show its hand before leaning one way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1520
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.354 -0.1% Expanded range upper half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see spot right now — yesterday's session closed almost flat, and while price is holding in the upper half of its recent range (the top portion of where it's been trading lately), there's no clear signal yet pointing firmly in either direction. We'd want to see Cable hold and push above the session high with some energy, or show a clean rejection (a bounce away from a level) lower, before leaning in. If price slips back and closes below 1.3540, even this cautious tilt disappears and we'd reassess from scratch. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3540
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 159.6 +0.13% Normal range lower half of range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's session was almost flat (barely moved), and with no big news events on the calendar today, there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above 159.00 and start to build some strength before leaning bullish (upward); a clean close below that level would tell us the sellers are taking over. For now, we're watching and waiting for a clearer signal rather than jumping to a side.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 159.00
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7082 -0.38% Normal range near swing HIGH
Aussie-dollar is sitting near the top of yesterday's range (the high-to-low band price traveled) after a quiet, slightly red session — so there's no clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether buyers step up and defend this area, or whether price begins to drift lower before we form any real lean. No big news events are on the calendar today for this pair, so let price show us its hand first before leaning in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6420
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.39 +0.2% Expanded range lower half of range
USDCAD is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — no clear bias has formed yet, so we're in watch-and-wait mode rather than leaning in either direction 💛. Yesterday's session closed just a touch higher, but price is sitting in the lower half of its daily range, which means the bulls (buyers) haven't really taken control. We'd want to see a clean hold and push above 1.3920 to start thinking about an upside lean, while a slide and close below 1.3880 would open the door for the sellers to take charge.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3880
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 216 +0.03% Quiet range upper half of range
The pound-yen is sitting quietly right now — last session barely moved (+0.03%), and price is drifting in the upper half of its recent range (the band of prices it's been bouncing between), so there's no strong signal pulling us clearly in either direction just yet. 💛 We'd want to see the pound-yen hold above 214.50 and start showing some momentum (bigger, more decisive candles) before leaning bullish (upward-tilting); a close below 214.50 would tell us sellers are taking control and we'd need to reassess. For now, we're in watch-and-wait mode — no clear bias has formed, so patience is your best tool today.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 214.50
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4366 -1.17% Normal range near swing HIGH
Gold had a rough session yesterday, slipping about 1.2%, and she's sitting near the top of her recent range (meaning price is close to where sellers have shown up before) — so there's no clear directional lean just yet. 💛 We'd want to see her either hold and build fresh buying energy, or dip and reclaim a key level before committing to a direction. Watch how she behaves around current levels — a strong push and close above 3,370 would be the signal that buyers are back in control and our cautious tone needs a rethink.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,370
Silver moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 63.94 -3.3% Normal range near swing HIGH
Silver took a meaningful step lower last session — dropping over 3% (meaning price fell notably in a single day) — and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the band of prices it's been moving within), which means sellers have shown up right where they've pushed back before. Our moderate bearish bias (leaning downward) stays in play while Silver holds below that swing high area around 33.20; if price climbs back above that level on a daily close, this whole lean gets reassessed. With no major news events on the calendar today, keep an eye on whether buyers can defend current levels or if we see another leg lower (another wave of selling pressure) toward the next support zone (a price floor where buyers have stepped in historically). 💛
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7692 -0.69% Quiet range upper half of range
The S&P 500 nudged lower last session and we don't yet have a clear bias (a strong tilt in either direction) to lean on — the quiet range (price moved less than her typical daily distance) and upper-half positioning give us a mixed picture worth watching rather than acting on. 💛 For a bearish lean (downward tilt) to develop, we'd want to see price start closing beneath recent support (a floor price has bounced from before); for a bullish lean (upward tilt) to form, a reclaim and hold above 5,780 would be the signal we're looking for. Until one of those things happens, staying patient and waiting for confirmation is the smartest move.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 5,780
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,210 -0.72% Quiet range upper half of range
NASDAQ closed slightly lower last session and we don't yet have a clear directional lean — the picture is mixed enough that we're in watch-and-see mode right now 💛. What we'd want to see for a bullish lean (leaning upward) to form is price reclaiming and holding above the 19,650 area with some conviction; a drift lower and a close beneath that level would open the door to further downside pressure. For now, patience is our friend — no clear bias yet means no need to force a trade.
DAX no clear bias
Close: 26,130 -0.8% Quiet range upper half of range
The DAX is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's small dip lower hasn't given us a clear enough signal yet to lean confidently in either direction 💛. Price is holding in the upper half of its recent range (the zone between the recent high and low), which keeps things balanced for now. We'd want to see a strong push above 26,350 to build a bullish case (leaning upward), or a decisive drop and close below recent support (a floor price has been bouncing from) to consider a bearish lean — until then, patience is your best tool.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,350
BTCUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 64,680 +0.27% Normal range near swing HIGH
Bitcoin closed just a whisker higher yesterday and is sitting near the top of its recent swing high (the highest point price reached before pulling back), which tells us buyers are still showing up rather than running away 💛. While price holds above 63,200, our bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward) — meaning we're watching for any dip to find support (a floor where buyers step back in) and potentially push higher. A daily close below 63,200 would flip that picture and we'd step back to reassess rather than assume the upside story is still intact.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 63,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 1916 +0.22% Normal range upper half of range
Ethereum is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see spot right now — yesterday's tiny gain and normal range (she moved about her usual daily distance, nothing dramatic) don't give us a strong push in either direction just yet. 💛 We'd want to see ETH hold above the 1,880 area and start showing some real follow-through buying (consistent upward closes, not just a flicker) before leaning confidently into an upward bias. For now, the healthiest thing to do is watch how she behaves around current levels rather than jumping ahead of the story.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 1,880

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
