Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.158 +0.08% Quiet range upper half of range
EUR/USD is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now, loves — the pair closed nearly flat (price ended almost exactly where it started the session) and moved quietly (less distance than its usual daily range), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. Tonight brings the FOMC Meeting Minutes (the Federal Reserve's notes from their last interest-rate discussion), which can shake the dollar hard and flip the picture fast, so we really want to see how price reacts to that before leaning either way. Watch for a strong close above 1.1580 to hint at bulls (buyers) stepping back in, or a slip under 1.1520 — that's where this neutral read would need a full rethink.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1520
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.355 +0.03% Quiet range upper half of range
Cable (that's our nickname for the pound-dollar pair) is sitting quietly in the upper half of its recent range, but today is a big news day — GBP CPI (a report showing how fast UK prices are rising) and the FOMC Meeting Minutes (notes from the US Federal Reserve's last interest rate meeting) both drop at the same time, which means price could swing hard in either direction before we get a clean read. With two heavyweight events pulling on the pair at once, there's no clear lean yet — we want to see how price reacts and whether it can hold above 1.3480 before committing to any direction. Watch for a decisive close above today's high to open a potential bullish (upward-leaning) case, while a drop and close below 1.3480 would shift the picture toward the bears 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3480
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 159.3 +0.07% Quiet range mid-range
Dollar-yen is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — price closed almost exactly flat last session (+0.07%), landed right in the middle of its recent range (not pressing higher or lower), and moved quietly compared to its usual daily distance (meaning momentum, the push behind price, was very low). With the FOMC Meeting Minutes dropping today — that's the notes from the US central bank's last interest-rate discussion, which can shake dollar pairs hard — we'd rather wait and see which direction price reacts before forming any lean. 💛 A sustained hold above 158.50 would start to build a case for upside, while a close beneath that level opens the door to more softness — but right now, no clear edge either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 158.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7108 +0.33% Quiet range upper half of range
AUD/USD is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now, honey — yes, yesterday's session closed slightly higher and price is in the upper half of its recent range (meaning it's closer to the top of its recent price band than the bottom), but today brings two huge Australian jobs reports (Employment Change and Unemployment Rate) that could swing this pair hard in either direction 💛. Until we see those numbers drop at 5:00pm PST, there's no clear lean to trade from — the data will either confirm bulls (buyers pushing price up) or hand control back to the bears (sellers driving price lower). Watch for price to hold above 0.6980 as a bare minimum sign of health; a daily close below that level would open the door to a much deeper pullback and would flip our thinking more cautious.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6980
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.387 -0.02% Quiet range lower half of range
USDCAD closed virtually flat (almost no change from the open) with a quiet session — meaning price moved less than its typical daily distance — so there's no clear directional lean just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether price can push back above 1.3920; if it can hold above that level, a mild upside case starts to build, but right now the pair is sitting in the lower half of its recent range (closer to the bottom of where it's been trading) without a strong reason to commit either way. Today's high-impact news isn't directly tied to USD or CAD, so keep position sizes modest (smaller than usual) and wait for price to show its hand before leaning in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3920
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 215.9 +0.11% Quiet range upper half of range
The pound-yen is sitting quietly near the upper half of its recent range (the space between today's high and low prices), but there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether buyers can hold price above 215.90 with some energy — a strong close above that zone would be the first sign a mild upward lean is forming. Until then, we treat this as a wait-and-see moment, with 214.80 as the level that would tell us the picture has shifted lower.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 214.80
Gold moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 4418 +0.85% Quiet range upper half of range
Gold closed the last session up 0.85% and settled in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price finished closer to the session's high than its low — a sign of buyer strength), giving us a mild bullish bias (leaning upward) heading into today. 💛 That said, the FOMC Meeting Minutes dropping at 5:00pm PST — a release of notes from the Federal Reserve's policy meeting that can shake Gold hard — means we want to stay nimble and wait to see how price reacts before leaning in too heavily. Bias stays cautiously bullish while Gold holds above 3,370; a clear daily close below that level would be the signal that the buyers have lost control and this lean needs a rethink.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 3,370
Silver moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 66.12 +1.74% Quiet range upper half of range
Silver closed strong yesterday with a solid +1.74% gain (price moved up nearly 2% — a meaningful push) and settled in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price closed near the high of the day rather than fading back down), which gives us a moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) for now 💛. While Silver holds above the 32.00 area, the path of least resistance (the direction things seem to want to move) favors the bulls — a daily close back below that level would flip this outlook and open the door to further softness. Do keep an eye on the GBP CPI release today, as big economic news can send shockwaves through metals markets, so wait for that dust to settle before making any decisions.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7745 -0.52% Quiet range upper half of range
The S&P 500 is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — yesterday's session closed slightly lower but price is still holding in the upper half of its recent range (the area between the highest and lowest recent prices), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet. 💛 We're watching to see whether buyers step in and defend this area, or whether sellers take control and push price meaningfully lower — a strong move below recent support (a price floor where buyers have shown up before) near current levels would be the first sign of a bearish lean (tilting downward) forming. Until we see clearer evidence of which side is winning, we're treating this as a wait-and-watch moment rather than making a directional call.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 5,820
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 29,490 -1.68% Quiet range upper half of range
NASDAQ doesn't have a clear lean just yet — yesterday's session closed lower with a moderate drop, but price is still sitting in the upper half of its recent range (meaning it hasn't fallen to the bottom of where it's been moving), so bulls and bears are still in a tug of war 💛. We're watching to see if price can hold its ground or if sellers push it toward the lower portion of the range — a sustained move lower with follow-through would be the first sign a bearish tilt (downward lean) is forming. Keep GBP CPI in mind today too — big data releases can shake broader markets, so staying patient for confirmation (waiting for the market to show its hand before committing) is the smart move here.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 29,800
DAX no clear bias
Close: 26,340 -0.39% Quiet range upper half of range
DAX is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — yesterday's small dip (just -0.39%) wasn't dramatic, and price is still holding in the upper half of its recent range (the zone between the recent highs and lows), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether DAX can hold above 26,200 — that's the level where this mild upward tilt would start to look questionable. No major news events today, so let price show its hand before leaning too hard in either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,200
BTCUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 64,510 +2.69% Expanded range upper half of range
Bitcoin closed the session near the top of its range (the highest area of where price moved yesterday) with a strong +2.69% gain, and the range expanded — meaning price moved more than its typical daily distance — which often signals real momentum behind the move. 💛 While Bitcoin holds above 62,800, the bias leans bullish (tilting upward), and we'd watch for any pullback (a small dip back toward recent prices) to be bought rather than sold. A daily close below 62,800 would flip that picture and suggest the buyers have lost control for now.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 62,800
ETHUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1912 +2.04% Normal range upper half of range
Ethereum closed the last session up over 2% and settled in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price finished closer to the session's high than its low — a sign of buyer strength), which gives us a moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) heading into today 💛. While price holds above 1,850, the path of least resistance (the direction where moves tend to flow most easily) looks tilted higher, and we'd watch for any dips back toward the 1,880–1,900 area to find support (a floor where buyers step in). A daily close back below 1,850 would flip that picture and tell us the buyers have lost control, opening the door for a deeper pullback.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 1,850

🎯 TFW Recommendation
CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

🎯 TFW Recommendation
FOMC Minutes are published 3 weeks after the meeting — they can revive USD volatility if the language reveals surprises about future rate decisions. Less dramatic than the live announcement but worth keeping an eye on. TFW tip: stay cautious on USD pairs in the 15 minutes around release. Think of it as the meeting notes everyone tries to read between the lines 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
