Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.153 -0.12% Quiet range near swing HIGH
EUR/USD is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — price closed near its recent swing high (the top of the range where sellers have shown up before), but the session move was only a tiny dip of -0.12% and today's scheduled news events are Canadian data, which don't directly push this pair 💛. With no clear catalyst pulling price in either direction yet, we're in a wait-and-see mode — a clean hold and push above 1.1580 would be the first signal that buyers are stepping back in with confidence, while any drift lower keeps the picture neutral-to-cautious.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1580
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.35 -0.09% Quiet range upper half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — the session was nearly flat with only a tiny -0.09% dip, price is holding in the upper half of its recent range (meaning buyers haven't fully given up), but there's no strong push in either direction yet. 💛 The red-folder events (high-impact news releases that can shake price hard) today are all Canadian data, so Cable may stay quieter than usual unless broader dollar moves spill over. We'd want to see a clean hold and push above 1.3550 before leaning bullish (upward), or a break and close below current structure to consider a bearish (downward) tilt — for now, patience is the trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3550
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 159.3 +0.04% Quiet range mid-range
Dollar-yen is sitting in the middle of its recent range (the zone between yesterday's high and low) after barely moving last session — that's a no-clear-bias-yet picture for now. 💛 The pair also had a very quiet day relative to its normal daily movement, which tells us neither buyers nor sellers are really in control right now. Watch for a clean push and close above yesterday's high or below 158.50 to give us a first hint of direction — until then, we're simply waiting for the market to show her hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 158.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7064 +0% Quiet range upper half of range
The Aussie-dollar closed virtually flat last session with a quiet range (price moved less than its typical daily distance), so there's no clear directional tilt to work with just yet 💛. Today's calendar is light for this pair directly — the red-folder events (high-impact news releases) are Canadian data, which can ripple into risk sentiment but don't give us a clean read on AUD/USD alone. We're watching: a sustained hold above 0.7020 would be the first thing needed to even begin building a mild upward lean, while a close below that level opens the door to further weakness.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7020
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.394 +0.15% Quiet range lower half of range
USDCAD is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — price closed nearly flat last session and is resting in the lower half of its recent range (the band between the recent high and low), without a clear push in either direction yet. 💛 With three Canadian inflation reports (CPI readings, which measure how fast prices are rising) all hitting at 5:00 pm PST today, the pair could move sharply in either direction depending on the data, so there's no reliable lean to trade ahead of that news. Watch for how price responds after the reports: a strong hold and push above last session's close could open the door for USD strength, while a decisive drop and close below 1.3940 would tell us sellers are in control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3940
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 215 -0.05% Quiet range mid-range
The pound-yen closed virtually flat yesterday (barely moved from where it opened), sitting right in the middle of its recent price range — neither buyers nor sellers are really in control right now 💛. Price is moving quietly (well within its typical daily distance), and there are no major news events today that could shake things up, so we're in a genuine wait-and-see moment. A sustained push and close above 216.50 would start to tip the scales toward a bullish lean (meaning upward momentum beginning to build), while a drop and close below 213.50 would flip the picture the other way — for now, patience is the move.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 213.50
Gold moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 4364 -1.03% Expanded range near swing HIGH
Gold slipped over 1% last session and that drop happened on an expanded range (meaning price moved more than its usual daily distance — a sign of stronger conviction behind the move), which gives us a moderate bearish lean (tilting downward) for now. 💛 Price is sitting near the top of yesterday's range, which means buyers haven't been able to push meaningfully higher — if Gold stays below 3,370, the path of least resistance (the easier direction for price to drift) favors another leg lower. That said, the Canadian inflation data dropping at 5pm PST can stir broader market moves, so keep an eye on how price reacts rather than assuming smooth sailing in either direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 3,370
Silver no clear bias
Close: 64.87 -1.04% Quiet range near swing HIGH
Silver is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot right now — she slipped about 1% last session but is still hovering near the top of her recent range (the high end of where price has been moving back and forth), which makes it hard to call a clear direction just yet. 💛 What we'd want to see before leaning bearish (downward) is a clean daily close below the 64.00 area; without that, there's no strong signal to act on. For now, we're watching and waiting for price to show her hand rather than guessing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 66.20
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7799 +0.65% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed with a solid gain last session and is sitting near its recent swing high (the top of its recent price range) — that's a sign buyers are still showing up with confidence 💛. Bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward) while price holds above the 5,700 area; a clean close below that level would tell us the buyers have stepped away and we'd need to reassess the whole picture. Today's Canadian inflation data isn't a direct S&P driver, but watch for any surprise that ripples through broader risk sentiment (how willing traders are to take on risk) and causes unusual movement into the close.
NASDAQ no clear bias
Close: 26,800 +0.81% Quiet range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ is sitting in a no-clear-direction zone right now — yesterday's small gain is encouraging, but the market has been quiet (moving less than its usual daily distance) and we're near a recent high where sellers sometimes show up. We're watching to see if price can hold above 26,500 and push through with stronger momentum (follow-through buying) before leaning in either direction. Today's Canadian inflation data isn't a direct NASDAQ driver, so keep an eye on any broader U.S. market sentiment shifts as your real guide 💛.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,500
DAX no clear bias
Close: 26,300 -0.12% Normal range near swing HIGH
DAX is sitting near the top of its recent range (the high end of where price has been trading lately), so we don't have a clear directional bias just yet — the market needs to show its hand a little more before we lean one way 💛. Watch for whether price can hold these highs and push through, or whether sellers step in and push it back down toward 25,950; a clean daily close below that level would be the sign that the bullish (upward-leaning) picture has changed. For now, it's a wait-and-watch session — no rush to commit.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,950
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 62,980 -0.67% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin closed the last session quietly in the lower half of its daily range (meaning price settled closer to the day's lows than its highs), so there's no clear bias forming just yet — we're in a watch-and-see moment 💛. For a genuine lean to take shape, we'd want to see Bitcoin either hold and push back above the 64,200 area (the level that would tell us buyers are stepping back in) or break down with momentum below current lows to confirm the bears are in control. Until one of those things happens, sitting on your hands and waiting for the picture to get clearer is absolutely a valid choice.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 64,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 1881 -0.18% Quiet range lower half of range
Ethereum (ETH/USD) is giving us a mixed picture right now — no clear bias has formed yet, so we're in watch-and-wait mode rather than leaning strongly in either direction 💛. Price closed just slightly lower last session and is sitting in the lower half of its recent range, but the move was quiet (smaller than its typical daily distance), which tells us the market isn't yet committed to a direction. A reclaim and hold above 1,920 would be the first sign bulls are stepping back in; until then, we'd want to see a bounce and a higher close before calling any meaningful upward lean.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 1,920

CPI day for the USD — spreads on USD pairs can widen sharply at release and stops get hunted in both directions. The TFW approach: step back 30 minutes before the number drops and wait for the dust to settle (usually 15–20 minutes after release). Re-assess the chart once the initial candle closes. No need to chase — great setups appear AFTER the volatility, not during it. Think of it like rush hour — the road clears up beautifully once everyone else is done crashing into each other 💛

High-impact economic event — this can cause sharp, fast moves on the relevant currency. TFW teaching: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 15–20 minutes around the release. Wait for the volatility to settle and a clear candle structure to form before looking for entries. When in doubt with high-impact news, patience is always the right trade 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
