Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.153 -0.12% Quiet range near swing HIGH
EUR/USD closed the last session almost flat — barely a whisper of movement — and with no big news events (red folder = high-impact data releases that shake the market) on the calendar today, there's no strong push in either direction just yet. 💛 Price is sitting near the top of its recent range (the highest point it's been trading around lately), which can sometimes mean buyers are in control, but we'd want to see price hold above 1.1480 before leaning confidently upward. For now, we're in a wait-and-watch mode — if you're newer to trading, this is a great session to observe rather than rush a trade.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1480
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.35 -0.09% Quiet range near swing HIGH
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting quietly near the top of its recent range with no major news events on the calendar today, so there's no clear edge in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold and push through recent highs with some momentum before leaning bullish (upward), or a slip back below 1.3480 would tell us buyers aren't really in control. For now, we're watching rather than leaning — patience is a skill too!
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3480
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 159.3 +0.04% Quiet range mid-range
The dollar-yen closed almost exactly flat last session — just a tiny +0.04% nudge — and price is sitting right in the middle of its recent range (no real push toward the top or the bottom), so there's no clear directional tilt to lean on just yet 💛. The pair also moved quietly, well within its normal daily distance (its ATR — the average size of a day's move), which tells us the market isn't in a rush either way. We're in a genuine wait-and-see moment here, so watch for a decisive close above recent highs or below 158.50 (where the bias would flip and the bullish case would be off the table) before forming a directional view.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 158.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7064 +0% Quiet range upper half of range
Aussie-dollar is sitting quietly right now — price barely moved last session and there's no major news on the calendar today, so we don't have a clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above the 0.7020 area (a key support zone, meaning a floor where buyers have stepped in before) and then start showing some energy before leaning bullish (upward-tilting). For now, it's a watch-and-wait moment — let price show its hand first.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7020
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.394 +0.15% Quiet range lower half of range
USDCAD (the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar) is sitting quietly right now — last session barely moved, closing in the lower half of its recent range (meaning price drifted closer to recent lows than highs) with no major news events on the calendar today. There's no clear signal yet telling us which direction she wants to go, so we're in watch-and-wait mode rather than leaning strongly one way. If price can hold above 1.3900 and start pushing higher, a mild bullish tilt (upward lean) could begin to form — but a close back below that level would take even that small possibility off the table. 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3900
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 215 -0.05% Quiet range mid-range
The pound-yen closed nearly flat yesterday (barely any movement, just -0.05%), and she's sitting right in the middle of her recent range — not pushing toward the top or the bottom — which tells us price hasn't committed to a direction yet 💛. Her session was quieter than usual (meaning she moved less distance than her typical daily rhythm, called ATR), so we don't have a strong clue about where she wants to go next. With no big news events (red folder = high-impact data releases) on the calendar today, we're in 'watch and wait' mode — a clear push and hold above 196.50 would start to build a bullish lean (upward tilt), while a decisive break lower opens the door to reassessing the downside.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 216.50
Gold moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 4364 -1.03% Expanded range near swing HIGH
Gold had a tough session yesterday, closing down over 1% with an expanded range (she moved more than her typical daily distance), which tells us there was real selling pressure — not just a quiet drift lower. 💛 The bias leans bearish (leaning downward) while price stays below the 3,370 area; a strong reclaim of that level on a close would put this lean back under review. If sellers stay in control, we watch for whether price can hold recent support levels (the floors where buyers have stepped in before), but nothing is locked in — let price confirm before acting.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 3,370
Silver no clear bias
Close: 64.87 -1.04% Quiet range upper half of range
Silver is in a bit of a waiting room right now — yesterday's small pullback (price edged lower by about 1%) didn't give us a strong signal in either direction, and the session was quieter than usual (meaning Silver moved less than her typical daily distance). No major news events are lined up today, so we're watching for confirmation before leaning either way; a clear push and hold above recent highs would invite a bullish tilt (leaning upward), while a slip back below the lower end of the recent range would suggest sellers are gaining control 💛.
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7799 +0.65% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed near its recent swing high (the upper edge of its recent price range) with a positive session, and with no big news events on the calendar today, the bulls (buyers) look like they're still in control 💛. Our bias (lean) stays moderately bullish (tilting upward) while price holds above the 5,700 area — a daily close beneath that level would tell us the buyers have lost their grip and we'd want to step back and reassess. The range was quiet (smaller movement than usual lately), so watch for a potential stretch higher if buyers keep showing up at dips (small pullbacks in price).
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 26,800 +0.81% Quiet range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed the last session up 0.81% and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the upper edge of where price has been bouncing back and forth), which tells us buyers are still in control for now 💛. While price holds above 26,400, a mild bullish bias (leaning upward) stays intact, meaning we'd watch for any dips to be bought rather than feared. A daily close below 26,400 would flip that picture and open the door for a deeper pullback (a move lower to find fresh support), so that's the level we keep our eye on.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,400
DAX no clear bias
Close: 26,300 -0.12% Normal range near swing HIGH
DAX closed nearly flat yesterday with no clear push in either direction, so right now we don't have a strong lean — we're watching for the market to show its hand before committing. If price holds above 26,100 (our key support level, meaning the price floor where buyers have stepped in before) and starts printing higher closes, that's when a bullish bias (leaning upward) could begin to form. No major news events are scheduled today, so keep position sizes sensible and wait for the DAX to give us a clearer signal 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,100
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 63,400 +0% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin is sitting in the lower half of its recent range (the space between today's high and low price) with no clear push in either direction just yet — so right now we don't have a strong enough signal to lean bullish (upward) or bearish (downward) with confidence. 💛 What we'd want to see before forming a real opinion: a clean reclaim (price closing back above) of 64,200 to open up bullish possibilities, or a decisive break and close below today's lower range to suggest more downside pressure. For now, patience is your edge — we're watching, not guessing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 64,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 1884 +0.31% Normal range lower half of range
Ethereum (ETH/USD) is giving us a mixed picture right now — no clear direction has formed yet, so we're watching and waiting rather than leaning one way 💛. Price closed just barely higher last session (+0.31%), but it's sitting in the lower half of its daily range (meaning it spent most of its time closer to the session's low than its high), which keeps things uncertain. We'd want to see a strong hold and push back above the 1,920 area to start building any bullish bias (an upward lean), or a continued slide lower to consider the bears taking control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 1,920

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
