Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.153 -0.12% Quiet range upper half of range
EUR/USD (the euro versus the US dollar) closed just a touch lower last session at 1.1530, but it's still sitting in the upper half of its recent range (the band between the highest and lowest prices over the past stretch), so there's no clear directional pull to act on yet 💛. Price moved quietly — less than its typical daily distance — which tells us the market is in a wait-and-see mood rather than committing to a move. We'd want to see a strong push and close above the recent swing high (the last little peak price made before pulling back) to even consider a mild upward lean, while a drop and close below 1.1480 would be the sign that sellers are taking control.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1480
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.35 -0.09% Quiet range upper half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) is sitting quietly after a tiny dip last session, and with no big news events today, there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above 1.3480 and then show some real buying energy — like a strong bounce or a clean push to a new intraday high — before leaning upward with confidence. For now, think of it as a 'watch and wait' day rather than a 'jump in' day.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3480
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 159.3 +0.04% Quiet range mid-range
The dollar-yen is sitting quietly in the middle of its recent range (the space between yesterday's high and low) with no big news events on the calendar today, so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see if price can hold above 158.50 — that's the level where our mild upward tilt (a gentle lean toward the dollar staying firm) would no longer make sense. Until we see a stronger move or a fresh catalyst (a piece of news that gets the market moving), this pair is really a 'wait and watch' situation rather than a clear call.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 158.50
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.7064 +0% Quiet range upper half of range
The Aussie (AUDUSD) is sitting quietly right now — last session barely moved, and we don't have any big news events today to shake things up, so there's no clear direction to lean into just yet. 💛 We'd want to see price push and hold above recent highs (the top of yesterday's range) before calling this a genuine upward tilt, or a drop and close below 0.7020 would tell us sellers are stepping in. For now, we're in a 'watch and wait' moment — patience is a skill too!
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7020
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.394 +0.15% Quiet range lower half of range
USDCAD is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — no clear bias has formed yet, so we're in watch-and-wait mode 💛. Price closed just a tiny bit higher last session (+0.15%), but it's sitting in the lower half of its recent range (meaning closer to recent lows than highs) and barely moved compared to its average daily distance, so there's no strong signal to lean on yet. Watch to see if price can reclaim and hold above 1.3940 — that would be the first clue a mild upward lean might be building; a drop and close below 1.3900 would tell us sellers are in control instead.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3900
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 215 -0.05% Quiet range mid-range
The pound-yen closed virtually flat yesterday — barely a whisper of movement — and price is sitting right in the middle of its recent range (the space between the recent high and low), which tells us neither the buyers nor the sellers have taken control just yet. 💛 With no high-impact news events on the calendar today and price action staying quiet (moving less than its usual daily distance), we're in a 'wait and see' moment rather than a clear opportunity. A sustained push and close above the top of the recent range could start to build a bullish lean (an upward tilt), while a drop and close below 213.50 would suggest the sellers are stepping in — that's the level where we'd want to reassess everything.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 213.50
Gold moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 4409 +0.59% Quiet range upper half of range
Gold closed yesterday at 3,409 with a gentle gain, sitting in the upper half of its recent price range (the zone between the session's high and low), which tells us buyers are quietly in control right now 💛. While price holds above 3,380, our bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward) — meaning we're watching for Gold to continue finding support (buyers stepping in at lower prices) on any small dips. A daily close below 3,380 would flip that picture and open the door to a deeper pullback (a slide lower), so that level is our key line in the sand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 3,380
Silver moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 65.56 +1.21% Normal range upper half of range
Silver closed the last session up +1.21% and settled in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price finished closer to the session's high than its low — a sign buyers were in control), giving us a moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) heading into today. While Silver holds above the 32.10 area, we can look for continued strength toward the next overhead levels; a daily close back below 32.10 would flip this lean and suggest sellers have taken back control 💛. There are no high-impact news events (big scheduled announcements that can spike price) touching Silver today, so the move is likely to be technically driven — meaning price patterns and key levels will matter most.
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7748 +0.26% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed near the top of its recent range (the high end of where price has been bouncing around), which tells us buyers are still showing up with confidence 💛. Our bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward) while price holds above 5,550 — a clean close beneath that level would tell us the momentum has shifted and we'd want to step back and reassess. With no major news events on the calendar today, the quieter conditions could allow the index to continue pressing higher, though a slow day can also mean price just drifts sideways near these highs.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 26,590 +0.54% Quiet range near swing HIGH
NASDAQ closed with a gentle gain and is sitting near the top of its recent range (the highest prices it's touched lately), which tells us buyers are still in control for now 💛. Our bias (leaning direction) stays moderately bullish (tilted upward) while price holds above 26,200 — that's the level where this whole picture would need a rethink. If we see a daily close below 26,200, that would open the door for a pullback (a dip back down to find support, meaning a floor where buyers tend to step in).
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,200
DAX no clear bias
Close: 26,330 -0.23% Normal range near swing HIGH
DAX is sitting near its swing high (the recent price peak where sellers have shown up before), so we don't have a clear bias just yet — the index needs to either push through that high with conviction or pull back before we can lean in a direction 💛. Watch for price to hold above 26,150; a close below that level would be the first sign that sellers are stepping in and the picture is shifting. For now, we're in wait-and-see mode, letting the market show its hand.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 26,150
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 63,400 -0.23% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin closed just a touch lower last session and is sitting in the lower half of its daily range, so there's no clear bias yet — we want to see what price does next before leaning in either direction. 💛 If Bitcoin can reclaim and hold above 64,200 (the upper area where buyers would take back control), that's the signal we'd want to see for a bullish tilt (leaning upward); until then, we're simply watching and waiting. No major news events are touching crypto today, so price action itself will be our guide.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 64,200
ETHUSD no clear bias
Close: 1878 -0.17% Normal range mid-range
Ethereum (ETH/USD) is sitting mid-range (right in the middle of yesterday's high-to-low, not leaning toward either end) after a near-flat session of just -0.17%, which tells us neither buyers nor sellers are really in charge right now 💛. With no high-impact news events on the calendar today and her daily movement coming in normal-sized (nothing unusually big or small), there's no clear tilt to lean on yet — we'd want to see price either push up and hold above the 1,920 area or slip and close below the 1,840 zone before calling a direction with any confidence. For now, this is a 'watch and wait' moment — protecting your patience is just as valuable as protecting your capital.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1,920

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
