Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.151 -0.32% Quiet range near swing HIGH
EUR/USD (the euro versus the US dollar) is sitting near the top of its recent range (the band of prices it's been moving between), but we don't have a clear bias just yet — the small dip last session and quiet conditions mean we're watching rather than leaning. If price holds up near these highs and we start to see follow-through buying, that would be the first sign of a bullish tilt (leaning upward); a slip and close below 1.1550 would be the tell that sellers are taking control. For now, we're in 'wait and see' mode 💛
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1550
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.343 -0.48% Quiet range upper half of range
Cable (the British pound versus the US dollar, nicknamed Cable) is giving us a mixed picture right now — yesterday it slipped a little but is still sitting in the upper half of its recent range (the space between the highest and lowest recent prices), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price either hold above 1.3430 and reclaim some energy, or break below it with momentum, before leaning strongly one way or the other. For now, watch rather than rush — if price closes below 1.3480 (our invalidation, the level that would tell us even a mild upside idea is wrong), that's when we reassess.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3480
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 157.5 -0.03% Quiet range lower half of range
USD/JPY is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see moment right now — yesterday's session barely moved (just -0.03%), and price is resting in the lower half of its recent range (the band between today's high and low), so there's no strong pull in either direction just yet. 💛 With no big news events (red folder = high-impact scheduled announcements) on the calendar today and the pair trading quietly, we'd want to see price either reclaim and hold above 158.20 before leaning upward, or break and close below current support to consider a downside lean. For now, patience is the trade — let price show its hand first.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 158.20
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6998 -0.69% Normal range near swing HIGH
The Aussie-dollar is sitting in a bit of a wait-and-see spot right now — yesterday's session closed lower after a -0.69% drop, but the move was normal-sized (nothing dramatic outside the usual daily range), so there's no strong signal pointing clearly one way or the other just yet 💛. To build a genuine bullish lean (a reason to think price could push higher), we'd want to see it reclaim and hold above the 0.7050 area; until that happens, the picture stays mixed and we'd rather watch than rush. No high-impact news events are scheduled for the Aussie-dollar today, so keep an eye on price action around current levels for your first clue about direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.7050
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.405 +0.24% Normal range lower half of range
USDCAD is sitting in a bit of a mixed spot right now — she nudged up a tiny bit last session but closed in the lower half of her daily range (meaning price settled closer to the day's lows than the highs), so there's no clear push in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see her hold above 1.4050 and start reclaiming the upper part of her range before leaning toward any continued strength, and a drop back under 1.4020 would tell us the modest gains were not meaningful. With no major news events on the calendar today, watch for price to give us a cleaner signal rather than forcing a trade — patience is a skill too!
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4020
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 211.5 -0.5% Quiet range lower half of range
The pound-yen is giving us a mixed picture right now — she slipped a little last session and is sitting in the lower half of her recent range (the space between her high and low over the past few weeks), but there's no big news event today to push her decisively in either direction. 💛 We don't have a clear lean just yet, so we're watching to see whether she can reclaim 212.80 (which would open the door to a bullish bias, meaning we'd start leaning upward) or whether she rolls over and confirms the recent softness. For now, patience is your edge — wait for the market to show her hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 212.80
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4034 -0.38% Normal range upper half of range
Gold is giving us a bit of a mixed picture right now — yesterday's session closed slightly in the red (price ended lower than it opened) and the move was pretty typical in size, so there's no strong signal pulling us clearly in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see whether Gold can hold above the 3,980 area (a key floor where buyers have been stepping in); if it does and we start to see buyers pushing price back toward the highs of yesterday's range (the upper boundary of that session's movement), that's when a clearer upward lean might begin to form. For now, we're in wait-and-watch mode rather than leaning hard either way.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 3,980
Silver moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 57.67 +0.13% Quiet range near swing HIGH
Silver closed near the top of its recent range (the highest prices she's been trading at lately) with a small but positive session, and a quiet day means she didn't stretch far — that kind of calm near highs often keeps a bullish bias (a lean upward) intact. 💛 As long as Silver holds above 32.00, the picture stays constructive and we'd watch for her to push higher from here. A daily close back below 32.00 would be our signal that this lean is wrong and we'd step back and reassess.
S&P500 moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 7600 +1.48% Normal range near swing HIGH
The S&P 500 closed near the top of its daily range (meaning price finished the session close to its highest point of the day) after a strong +1.48% session — that kind of close tells us buyers were in control right to the bell 💛. Our bias stays moderately bullish (leaning upward) while price holds above the 5,480 level; a daily close back beneath that area would tell us the momentum has shifted and we'd want to step back and reassess. With no high-impact news events today, the path of least resistance (the direction price tends to drift when nothing is pushing it) looks to favour the upside as long as that level holds.
NASDAQ moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 29,730 +3.32% Normal range upper half of range
NASDAQ closed up +3.32% last session and settled in the upper half of its daily range (meaning price closed closer to the high of the day than the low — a healthy sign), which gives us a moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) heading into today. 💛 While price holds above the 19,350 area, the path of least resistance (the direction things are already flowing) favours the buyers pushing for a continued lift. A daily close back below 19,350 would flip that picture and tell us the sellers have stepped back in charge — so we keep that level on our radar at all times.
DAX moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 26,000 +1.45% Normal range near swing HIGH
DAX closed yesterday near its swing high (the top of its recent price range) with a strong +1.45% gain, which tells us buyers are in control for now 💛. While price holds above 25,700, the bias leans bullish (tilting upward) — meaning we'd watch for the index to continue building on that strength. A daily close back below 25,700 would flip that picture and tell us the move may have run out of steam.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 25,700
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 63,460 -0.03% Normal range lower half of range
Bitcoin closed virtually flat (almost no change from where it opened) with a tiny loss, and price is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range — so right now we don't have a clear lean in either direction just yet 💛. What we'd want to see before calling any directional bias (a sense of which way price is tilting) is a strong push back above 64,200, which would open the door to a more bullish (upward-leaning) picture, or a decisive break below today's lower range that could shift things to the downside. For now, patience is your best friend — we're watching, not assuming.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 64,200
ETHUSD moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 1858 -1.29% Normal range lower half of range
Ethereum closed the last session down 1.29% and settled into the lower half of her daily range (meaning price finished closer to the session's bottom than its top), which gives us a moderate bearish bias (leaning downward) from here 💛. While price stays below the 1,920 area, the path of least resistance (the direction that takes the least effort) favours further softness, so we'd want to see sellers stay in control on any small bounces back up. A daily close back above 1,920 would flip that picture and open the door for a recovery toward higher ground — that's our invalidation, the level that tells us we read it wrong.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1,920

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
