Market Overview — Prev Session

Today's AI lean (educational only): ◀ bearish  ·  neutral  ·  bullish ▶ — further from centre = stronger conviction very strong bear    moderate bear    neutral    moderate bull    very strong bull
EURUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.139 +0.16% Normal range near swing LOW
EURUSD is sitting near the bottom of its recent range (the lowest prices it's visited lately) with no clear push in either direction just yet — so right now there's no strong lean for us to act on. 💛 Today is packed with major news events (big scheduled announcements that can shake the market hard), including the US GDP and Core PCE releases, which measure how fast the economy grew and how much prices rose — both of which move the dollar significantly. Until that dust settles and we see how price reacts, we're simply watching; a hold and push back above 1.1440 would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping in, while a decisive close beneath current lows keeps the cautious mood intact.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.1440
GBPUSD no clear bias
Close: 1.335 +0.29% Normal range lower half of range
Cable (our nickname for GBPUSD) closed slightly higher last session, but with the Bank of England's full rate decision, voting breakdown, and Governor Bailey speaking — plus US GDP and Core PCE (a key inflation reading the Fed watches closely) — all dropping at the same time today, the picture is genuinely too event-heavy to lean either direction just yet 💛. We want to see how price reacts after that 5pm PST news wave before deciding whether bulls (buyers) or bears (sellers) are taking control. Watch 1.3350 as your reference line — a clear hold above it after the news could open a bullish lean (upward tilt), while a decisive close below it would suggest the sellers are stepping in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.3350
USDJPY no clear bias
Close: 163.6 -0.14% Quiet range near swing HIGH
The dollar-yen is sitting near the top of its recent range (close to where price has been struggling to push higher) after a very quiet, almost flat session — so there's no clear tilt to lean on right now. 💛 What makes today extra complex is the sheer volume of high-impact news dropping all at once: the BOJ (Bank of Japan) is announcing its interest rate decision, the US is releasing GDP and Core PCE (a key inflation reading the Fed watches closely), AND the Bank of England is also reporting — all at 5:00pm PST, meaning price could move sharply in either direction depending on those surprises. We want to see how price reacts to those events before forming a directional bias (a leaning toward up or down), so for now we're watching, not guessing.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 144.00
AUDUSD no clear bias
Close: 0.6994 +0.39% Quiet range upper half of range
The Aussie-dollar is sitting quietly in the upper half of its recent range (the area between today's high and low prices) after a small positive close, but with major USD news dropping today — the Advance GDP report (a big snapshot of how the US economy grew) — the picture is genuinely mixed and we don't have a clear lean just yet 💛. A sustained hold above 0.6950 would be the first thing we'd want to see for any bullish bias (an upward tilt) to start forming, while a close below that level could open up a move back toward the middle of the range. For now, let the high-impact news settle before leaning either way — patience is a trading skill too!
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 0.6950
USDCAD no clear bias
Close: 1.409 +0.01% Normal range mid-range
USD/CAD is sitting right in the middle of yesterday's range (the distance between the day's high and low) with almost no movement last session — that's the market telling us it hasn't picked a direction yet 💛. The big one to watch today is the USD Advance GDP report at 5pm PST, which measures how fast the US economy grew last quarter, and a surprise in either direction could push this pair sharply. Until we see how price reacts to that news, there's no clear lean here — watch for a strong close above 1.4150 or below 1.3980 to give us our first real clue.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1.4150
GBPJPY no clear bias
Close: 218.4 +0.15% Normal range upper half of range
The pound-yen is sitting in a genuinely mixed spot today — yes, price closed slightly higher and is holding the upper half of its range (meaning it finished closer to the day's high than its low), but with both the Bank of England AND the Bank of Japan both dropping major policy decisions and speeches at the exact same time tonight, any lean we try to form could be flipped in seconds 💛. We're essentially watching two central banks (the teams that set interest rates for the UK and Japan) speak simultaneously, which means volatility — big, fast moves in either direction — is very real. Rather than guessing, watch for a clear hold above 217.20; a close beneath that level would suggest the bears (sellers) have taken control, while a strong push and hold above today's highs would be the first sign bulls (buyers) are stepping in.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 217.20
Gold no clear bias
Close: 4068 +0.52% Quiet range mid-range
Gold closed the last session with a modest gain, but she's sitting in the middle of her recent range (the space between her recent high and low prices) with no clear push in either direction just yet — so right now there's no strong lean we can act on with confidence. 💛 The big thing to watch today is the USD Core PCE Price Index (America's favourite inflation report) dropping at 5:00pm PST, which could shake Gold either way depending on what the numbers show. We'd want to see a clean, decisive move above her recent highs before leaning bullish (upward-biased) — a close below the 3,050 area would tell us the picture has shifted and we'd reassess entirely.
Silver no clear bias
Close: 58.66 +1.48% Quiet range mid-range
Silver had a decent session yesterday, closing up about 1.5%, but she's sitting mid-range (right in the middle of her recent price action, not near a clear top or bottom) and her movement was quieter than her typical daily distance — so there's no strong signal pulling us clearly in either direction just yet 💛. We're watching to see if she can build on that positive close with a follow-through push higher, or whether sellers step back in and stall the momentum — confirmation (a clear next move that tells us which side is in control) is what we really need before leaning either way. No major news events are lined up for Silver today, so price action itself will be our guide.
S&P500 no clear bias
Close: 7412 +0.05% Normal range lower half of range
The S&P 500 closed almost flat yesterday — barely a whisper of movement — and we don't have a clear directional lean just yet 💛. Price is sitting in the lower half of yesterday's range (meaning it closed closer to the day's lows than the highs), so we're watching to see whether buyers step in and push it back toward the middle and upper part of the range, or whether sellers keep the pressure on. No high-impact news events are scheduled today, so the key thing to watch is whether price can hold current levels — a decisive close below the 5,700 area would tell us the balance has shifted and we'd need to reassess the whole picture.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: below 5,700
NASDAQ moderate bear (2/4)
Close: 27,190 -2.06% Expanded range lower half of range
NASDAQ closed the last session with a sharp -2.06% drop and finished in the lower half of its daily range — meaning price settled closer to the session's lows than its highs, which tells us sellers were in control right to the close 💛. The range expanded (she moved more than her typical daily distance), so this wasn't a quiet drift lower — it was a meaningful push, and our bias (the direction we're leaning) stays cautious and bearish while price holds below 27,700. Keep your eyes on USD Core PCE (a key inflation reading the market watches closely for clues on interest rates) dropping at 5:00pm PST today — a hotter-than-expected number could add more pressure, while a softer reading might offer some relief and challenge the downside lean.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: above 27,700
DAX moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 25,100 +1.36% Normal range mid-range
DAX closed up +1.36% yesterday with a solid push higher, and sitting mid-range (right in the middle of its recent price corridor) with no major news events today keeps the mood relatively calm and constructive — we have a moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) while price holds above the 24,800 area. 💛 If buyers keep showing up here, the path of least resistance (the direction the market seems most comfortable moving) looks like further upside exploration. That said, a daily close below 24,800 would flip the picture and open the door to more weakness, so that's the level we're watching to keep this lean valid.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 24,800
BTCUSD no clear bias
Close: 65,340 +1.6% Normal range mid-range
Bitcoin is sitting in the middle of yesterday's range (the space between the day's high and low) after a solid +1.60% session — there's no clear setup pulling us strongly in either direction just yet 💛. We'd want to see price hold above 64,200 and push toward the upper part of the range before leaning bullish (upward-tilting); a clean close below 64,200 would shift the picture and open the door to a deeper pullback. For now, patience is the trade — let price show its hand before committing to a direction.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 64,200
ETHUSD moderate bull (2/4)
Close: 1953 +4.28% Expanded range upper half of range
Ethereum (ETH/USD) put in a strong session, closing up over 4% with an expanded range (meaning she moved much more than her usual daily distance) and finished in the upper half of that range — both signs of real buying energy coming in 💛. Our moderate bullish bias (leaning upward) stays intact while price holds above the 1880 area; a clear close below that level would tell us the buyers have stepped away and this whole picture needs a fresh look. If ETH can hold yesterday's gains and build above 1953, the door opens for a continued push higher — but we want to see price confirm before getting too excited.
⚠️ Lean invalidated if: 1880

GDP release — shows how healthy the economy is growing (or shrinking). A surprise beat or miss can move the currency. TFW tip: be cautious on pairs involving that currency for 10–15 minutes around the release. GDP is a slow-burn indicator — it sets the tone more than it creates instant spikes. Inflation data (CPI, PPI, PCE) — markets care deeply because high or low inflation changes rate expectations. TFW tip: step back 15 minutes around the release on relevant currency pairs. The first candle tells you a lot — wait for it to close before acting. Inflation news = the market recalculating what rates might do next. Give it a moment 💛

📖 Trading terms explained — tap to open

New here? Every term used in this briefing, explained in plain words. No jargon left unexplained.

Swing High / Swing Low
The last peak (swing high) or valley (swing low) on the chart — the little bumps price made before reversing.
Traders watch these because price often reacts there: it might bounce off a swing low or stall at a swing high.
Range
How far price moved from its lowest to highest point in a session.
A 'quiet range' means price barely moved. An 'expanded range' means it moved more than usual — higher volatility day.
ATR (Average True Range)
The average distance price travels in a typical session — its 'normal step size'.
When the day's range is bigger than ATR, price is moving more than usual. When smaller, it's a quiet day. Helps size stops sensibly.
Liquidity Sweep
Price briefly dips below a swing low (or above a swing high) to grab the stop orders sitting there, then snaps back.
It's the market 'raiding' the stops before the real move. Seeing a sweep then a reversal is often a strong signal.
Bias / Directional Lean
Which way the market seems to be leaning — bullish (upward), bearish (downward), or no strong lean.
Bias doesn't mean price will definitely go that way. It's the direction that looks more likely given current structure. Always have a plan if it goes the other way.
Invalidation Level
The price where your reason for the trade is no longer valid — 'if it gets here, my idea was wrong'.
Knowing your invalidation level before entering helps you decide where to put your stop loss and whether the trade is worth the risk.
Retest
When price comes back to a level it just broke through — testing whether that level now holds as support or resistance.
After a breakout, many traders wait for the retest (the return visit) as a higher-quality entry rather than chasing the initial break.
Scalping
Taking very quick, small trades — in and out in minutes, targeting small price moves.
Scalpers trade frequently and need tight spreads. Around news events, TFW teaches to avoid scalping because spreads widen and stops get hit fast.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and sell price — the broker's fee for the trade.
Around high-impact news, spreads can widen dramatically (5-10× normal). This is why TFW teaches to step back before news: your stop might get hit just from the spread alone.
Stop Hunt
When price briefly spikes to hit a cluster of stop-loss orders before reversing in the original direction.
Common before and after news events. Setting stops at 'obvious' round numbers or just below swing lows makes you more vulnerable.
Consolidation
Price moving sideways in a tight zone — taking a breather, not going anywhere in particular.
After a big move, markets often consolidate before continuing. TFW teaches patience here: wait for a breakout with momentum rather than trading inside the range.
Breakout
When price pushes through a level it's been unable to get past — breaking the ceiling or the floor.
The best breakouts have momentum behind them (strong candle, volume if available). Fakeouts (false breakouts) are common, so many traders wait for a close beyond the level or a retest.
Pullback
A temporary move against the main trend — a step backwards before the trend continues.
Pullbacks are one of the best trade entries in trending markets. TFW teaches to wait for price to pull back to a key level (like the 50 EMA or a swing low) before entering in the direction of the trend.
Red Folder
High-impact news events shown in red on the ForexFactory economic calendar — the big announcements that can move markets sharply.
Examples: CPI (inflation), NFP (US jobs), central bank rate decisions. TFW teaching: step back from the market 15-30 minutes before red folder releases and wait for the chaos to settle.
Risk:Reward (R:R)
How much you could make versus how much you're risking on a single trade — e.g. 1:2 means risking $1 to potentially make $2.
Even if you're only right 40% of the time, a 1:3 R:R can still be profitable. TFW teaches to aim for at least 1:2 before taking a trade.
